Working here was one of the most memorable experiences for all the good and bad reasons. They buy used, damaged, and knock off Herman Miller products in bulk for cheap with some other brands and try to refurbish it to look new. Though results did vary. We had some jobs that went great and things looked good. Others that were trash and the customers would complain. Often anything that was janky or bad, but was out of sight would be passed. Very specific areas that customers would see often were always the focus so we could pass the product off as looking great for a great price at half the attention to detail and labor. I'm not sure if they told any customers this was new product, but if they did then they were lying to your face. My reflection working here is a different story. There were many shady characters who worked here. Some I figured were illegal aliens and others were awful people who should just be in prison. They often sold drugs in the work place, had painters drinking on the job, and hired people out of a temp agency who sent over cheap and subpar laborers to help plug holes when needed. The ones from Masterson were particularly scummy, but were paid very little. There were some workers who had serious anger management problems and would just angrily approach you half baked or drunk about things that didn't make sense. Too much of the magic leaf or alcohol had rotted their brains or something and some were just very paranoid. The general manager, aka 3rd in charge, tried to play this off like he didn't know these things were happening, but everyone knew who was doing it and what was happening there. He knew the woodshop supervisor was fired for stealing the company van and got caught holed up in a hotel doing god knows what. Or the drunk and erratic painter who they had caught passed out on the job. There were some truly great workers here. Some didn't speak english too well, but they helped make the place better to work at with all the insanity in the background. The pay and benefits were not very good here either. I finally got tired of working with insane people, who sold and used drugs and alcohol on the job for a substandard pay and moved on to a much higher paying job. There were some fun things the owners would do like take people to games, host a company party, and other things. However, this was not enough to make up for the food they withheld from the workers families by paying such low and pathetic wages. I wouldn't recommend you work here when there are so many other better paying jobs with people who are less erratic and dangerous. The general manager actually asked me how to fix the problem when I left. I said, "A random unannounced drug test (a single one let alone multiple) would weed out the crazy ones." He had the audacity to try to claim they were looking into getting this setup, but hadn't gotten it done because of insurance. I'm pretty sure they would lose their insurance if the broker heard this garbage line of crap.

As an Interior Designer, I was hired to completely renovate a large office space. I was referred to ABF and was pleased that they could accommodate my clients need for 21 custom desks. I worked with them to get just the right layout and finishes, however they delivered the desks with the wrong laminate top, not the one I had chosen and my client had approved. Instead of trying to figure out how the mistake was made they immediately said that I had changed the laminate! This was the biggest part of the project and I had designed everything else around the laminate I had chosen. After many phone calls and emails, verifying that I had not changed from my initial choice, I was told that they did not consider me their client since my client was paying the bill. There were other mistakes made, the stand alone partitions came in wrong three times plus the handles that I specifically said I did not want on the drawers came in with them anyway. All in all I can only say that while the actual workman ship is very good their handling of mistakes is awful as is their customer service. (I made the wrong tops work but although the space does look finished and my client has accepted the change ABF has done, and will not do, anything to accommodate my client or me for what was clearly their very big mistake.)

This is a great place to buy furniture! The refurbished furniture looks as good as new but is much less expensive. The employees are great to work with and have always worked hard to help the organization I was associated with meet our schedules. I first worked with ABF 5 years ago when my company was subleasing space from another company and we only got a 6-month warning that the company we were leasing from was cancelling their, and thus our, lease. The folks at ABF came through for us and we were able to move 30 people into a completely new space, 6 months later. We used refurbished cubicles and it all worked great. This winter, I was volunteering at a private school and they needed cubicle panels to enclose a 20'x7' space in a month. ABF came through again with refurbished panels on the schedule we needed. This past month, they found 3 lateral file cabinets to go with an existing one at the school and again provided the furniture very quickly. This is just a great company to work with.
