I'm compelled to write this after seeing these 2 totally wrong reviews. We have visited Duluth for over 20 years now and have ALWAYS stopped in to see "Sandra" at Minnesota Gifts by Sandra Dee. That store has been there for over 3 decades for a reason! She's got it ALL there because she knows from experience what tourists/travelers need or forget when they leave home (especially when that lake drums up crazy unexpected weather) and what they might want to bring back with them! One time the rain came out of nowhere and we ran into the Dewitt-Seitz bldg., MN Gifts had rain ponchos (score), another time my wife forgot her jacket in the hotel room and that northern wind was blowing fierce, MN Gifts had awesome heavy sweatshirts for the whole family (still wear mine), my son got some gorgeous Lake Superior agates and cool MN stickers for his iPad/water bottle once, forgot sunscreen for the boat ride--you guessed it--MN Gifts had it, oh and lost my Ray-Bans one time and got a cheapo pair from MN Gifts (stylish and they lasted FOREVER). Best part though was the epic hand-painted antique saw blade we purchased one year for my dad to hang in the family cabin! "Sandra's" daughter is a local wildlife artist, and I can't even begin to tell you how incredible her work is! One could visit that shop just for the chance to snag a piece of MN beauty that'll last a lifetime (if they're not sold out already). My point is this is a unique "mom and pop" shop owned by locals, not some run of the mill chain, it's family-owned and MN Nice through and through. I think David S. in his post was jilted, and hey maybe "Sandra" was having a hard day, we ALL have bad days, but don't let that stop you from visiting her shop...we've been going there FOR DECADES and it's like visiting long lost friends. AND BTW my wife is disabled from an accident and uses arm crutches at times, we were never turned away for her being "disabled", but MN Gifts is a narrow shop and with all the treasures in there, there is not sufficient room for a wheelchair to maneuver around safely. That was likely the case for reviewer Barb S.

Totally get that all store owners can set their own hours, but I came to this shop 40 minutes before they closed and arrived with the store locked up. Bummer because it looks like they have nice stuff inside.

Cute Minnesota stuff. Grabbed some postcards to send to my southern friends. The store is tiny and cramped, but carries some cute things. :)

Wow, after reading the other reviews I'm glad we didn't give this horrible store our measly $1.08. My girlfriend wanted to send postcards to her centenarian grandmother, her terminally ill aunt, and her mom. We only had a dollar bill, and instead of just letting us have an eight cent discount we were denied the purchase. What an establishment you've got going for yourself.

Blonde owner kicked a lady out of the store because she was in a wheel chair and didn't want her destroying her store and her purses. The lady said she has fit in smaller stores just fine and she wasn't ruining anything. All stores are to be handicap accessible. Couldn't believe this.

As long as you have legs that function correctly you are welcome here. If not you are instructed to leave.

I would give them a -10 if it was possible since they dont like handicapped persons in their store. They should be forced to close down for kicking a handicappped person out. They dont want my friends money guess they dont deserve anybodies money ........ deplorable !!!!!!

THE MOST DISGRACEFUL RETAIL STORE IN MN...TOLD A PERSON IN A WHEELCHAIR TO LEAVE BECAUSE SHE & HER WHEELCHAIR WOULDN'T FIT IN HER STORE & SHE WOULD DAMAGE HER MERCHANDISE. BOYCOTT BOYCOTT & SPREAD THE WORD!

Just doing my part to make sure tourists spend their money elsewhere as this store denied entry to a disabled person in a wheelchair (my sister's friend) claiming that they would ruin merchandise with their chair. Just disgraceful and humiliating for the person involved. How sad. I will never shop here.

Don't shop here. It sees like they discriminate against people in wheelchairs. I thought it is against the American with Disabilities Act 1990 to kick someone out becaise they are in a wheelchair.

They made a person in a wheelchair leave the store.
