During my visit to this ICO gas station, I encountered a serious safety issue with one of the fuel pumps. The automatic shutoff mechanism failed, causing a massive spill of gasoline beneath my vehicle. While I appreciate the quick response of the attendant who came out to stop the pump, it raises concerns about whether the staff was already aware of the issue. If the pump was known to be faulty, it should not have been in operation.
When I asked if there was anything I could do to help clean up the lake of gasoline, the attendant casually responded, “It will just evaporate on its own.” That response was both alarming and unacceptable. Gasoline is highly flammable, and leaving such a large spill unattended is a serious safety hazard. I genuinely hope I don’t hear that this place caught on fire due to negligence.
Additionally, given the extreme -8°F temperature, customers should not be expected to monitor every second of the fueling process to prevent such hazards. While the station’s customer service was friendly, the lack of equipment maintenance and disregard for safety protocols make this a place I cannot recommend. Management urgently needs to address these issues before a major accident occurs.
In addition to serious safety concerns at this location, I want to address another issue—misleading information about available amenities. Multiple sources, including Google, Apple Maps, and Google Maps, indicate that this gas station has a public restroom. However, they do not actually provide one.
I know for a fact that this station used to have a public restroom, but they have not offered one for several years. If a business no longer provides a service, they should update their listings accordingly. Continuing to advertise a restroom that does not exist is deceptive and frustrating for customers who rely on accurate information.
Between the lack of restroom transparency and safety concerns I encountered, this gas station needs to take accountability for both its facility maintenance and its honesty with customers.

Clerk had absolute bad attitude. Seemed very upset when we came in. Shaking his head and ignoring us when we came to counter. Horrible customer service. Definitely don't recommend buying anything here unless absolutely needed

Seeing someone on crutches shouldn't upset you to the point where you throw the 2 dollar change at them cntiue to huff and puff the whole transaction and giving me the nastiest looks. You'd think I was there for hours trying to do my transaction that took less then 30 seconds unprofessional and wnt be going back

How do I remove my previous good review? Let’s go down the list here. First, they delivered a full but didn’t tell me or anyone else at ICO so they came later that evening to fill it but instead OVERFLOWED $200 plus dollars worth of oil… all over my yard, house, & basement. And I had to pay for it. Now, I ran out of oil as my gauge was stuck, you have to PREPAY for a delivery now. I had to leave a check. I never write checks. For a reason. It bounced, definitely my mistake. Completely. They added another $150 in fees, filed a claim at the court house. The kicker about it is I’ve been TRYING TO PAY THEM THE FULL AMOUNT OF $700. But you can’t get anyone to answer a phone. Have gone to the office in person, closed and locked, no one there. Way before their posted hours. I can’t exactly mail them a other check. I have cash that I’ve been trying to give to them. I would pay with a card over the phone. So I’m going to have to show up at court to show them the proof of the amount of times I have tried to rectify my mistake and pay the full amount. I’m also going to let the court know that ICO is purposely wasting everyone’s time just to add more fees on or something.

This gas station has DQ on the side of the store, which is very nice. The prices for Gas and items are a little very high. But the floor is fine and the service is fine. I will like to say that the DQ probably saves this Gas station from not visiting since the DQ is actually really good in food.

lady tried to accuse my brother of being an undercover cop but she was cool ig. he told her he got the fake badge from adventure zone (which was truthful) and she quickly hollered at him to remove it because impersonating an officer is illegal. she then asked if he wanted to be a firefighter/officer when he grew up to which he responded yes (which is a lie but he didn't want to hurt her feelings). she also told us about her need for wearing gloves in the cold. overall relatively positive time xoxo

Clean and organized store. However, I was not greeted while I walked in, and I didn’t notice they didn’t have a bathroom anymore, I inquired about their bathroom and was given attitude by an older gentleman working the counter. As if I should have seen their sign up in the window. I must have looked past it as I was just stopping for a canned coffee and food. I live locally and I’m a home owner with multiple businesses, and I was treated like I was going to do drugs in their bathroom which probably was why I got the cold shoulder. Seems to be a problem at this store prior to me coming, so it makes sense why there’s no bathrooms but the attitude was necessary? If this is how all customers are treated, that’s very unfortunate. So I’m not saying NOT to go here, I’m saying if you do, expect high prices and poor customer service from the older gent behind the counter. I, personally, didn’t feel like they even wanted me there. So I hurried out and made my way to kwik trip. If anyone who reads this visiting Duluth, go the extra 10 minutes out of your way to kwik trip! They don’t care how you look or dress and will always tell you to have a good day. Bathrooms are clean and easily accessible and great prices for all your needs. Saving money and not dealing with the snarky old man in canal park ico is sooo worth the extra drive.Customer service is very important, and at the very least, a smile goes a long way.Ps: Dairy Queen (attached to the ico) is 10/10! Yum!

I only stopped to get some grocery type items for my camper. There is a very limited selection for that type of item. I did find some things so I certainly didn't starve and it was in easy walking distance of the DECC lot. It is attached to a DQ for that type of dining as well.

There are some quite visible problems once inside. Very dimly lit. Limited selection. The employee was dismissive of my repeated questions about where I could find an item typically found in a very busy, touristy gas station. She repeated the name of a gas station but gave no directions. She just said it was a mile away…but not downtown…and not along the Railroad Road…or in Canal Park…or across the bridge…She looked like she wanted to start a fight! (I grew up in Duluth and lived here for around 22 years. In all my life I’ve never experienced this level of passive aggression. Quite discourteous, borderline uncivil, and inhospitable. I don’t know the name of every single gas station 1 mile from this ICO. And, perhaps she didn’t know where it was exactly either…which she should probably say..)Overall, it’s a great place in Duluth. Every Canal Park tourist should drop in and take a look. Spend some time trying to find some toothpaste and a lottery ticket. Ask directions to the nearest Dairy Queen. (Like similar reviews, definitely pass this one up - unless you’re desperate. ?) The has pumps seemed to be working though.
