Just completed a great experience with Acar Rental in Duluth. So appreciated the personal service, the flexible accommodation, and especially, the economical rates when all of the major rental companies were at least twice the price due to an event weekend. Do not be put off by the simple, plain entryway to the Duluth office because the rental cars are every bit as clean, well appointed, and in excellent condition as any from a major rental company. I will definitely be contacting Acar again the next time I need a rental car in Duluth.

dealt with people that were very unfriendly and the car I rented was make a very loud noise like something was about to break. After I returned the rental car, they came after me for damages and tried to make me pay for something that was already wrong with the vehicle. renters beware.

This car rental place is reasonablly priced and staff are very friendly. Rented car for a few days, and they gave me a decent rate for small car. Several vehicle types. Much cheaper than chain companies.

Bad Customer Service ExperienceReview From: June 6th, 2023.(Renting a car to see Mother: Not seen her in 3 years). Not been to Duluth in over 11 years.I arrived at the Duluth Airport, to visit relatives; it had been several years. Last min, I had to find a vehicle, because my other method of transportation did not work out! Nonetheless, I used resilience pressed forward and asked around town to local residents about car rental companies. I had never rented a car before and didn't understand how the process worked.Some of the locals recommend Acar Auto Rental. I researched their website and decided to give them a call. On the phone, I spoke to the Owner. Of course, I asked questions, and wanted to understand how the process worked.This was a huge mistake because apparently, not knowing to some showcase's insolence or even skepticism!!!! The Owner answered my questions in a subjective manner, as if I should already know. He requested I email him, my insurance information, so we could get the ball rolling! Me being a rookie, this was unacceptable for him to ask, and he could've just directed me to the website to reserve a vehicle and all of my information would've been presented at the point of rental.In my gut, I knew this was an improper way to conduct business, but considering this rental car company is privately owned, I obliged and sent my insurance information.My insurance policy was fairly new. (Purchased the same day to be exact)! However, I received permission from the new insurer, "That the insured (me) could rent a car at any time, under a valid policy." During the email exchange with the Owner, he immediately felt suspicious about me. I am a resident of a different state, so my policy met driving requirements there.About 30 minutes later, I phoned the Owner about the policy, email and renting. Things went left rather quickly. He ripped into me about the amount of insurance I should have for driving in Minnesota, the date of my policy and how he has been, "Burned in the past by customers."I accepted the scolding, because being observant, remaining poised and self-respecting is key. I even sent a follow up text thanking him.Sadly, after this encounter, I decided not to rent a car at all and took Lyft's around town the entire week I was there. Everywhere ($379.52 worth of Lyft's).When I arrive back home, I found out, my new insurance dropped me and they would not disclose why! The insurance company refused to refund my premium. I had to file a consumer protection complaint and transaction dispute on August 7th, and just got a refund!!! From June-August, I wasn't refunded.The insurance company was fined, and I was refunded! (No weapon formed against me will prosper.")Well today, I received a letter in the mail and Acar Owner, reported our interaction. I was so shocked!!!!!!!!!!!!! As if I were some sort of criminal.Here's the gag, I was hit by a drunk-uninsured driver in January. No fault. Not only was I being bullied by the insurance company, I decided to drop that insurer. (Which I had every legal right to do).I honestly, could say, " I know it's because I'm African American, or female. But I will say, "I wouldn't recommend this car rental company to African American customers, to avoid being singled out or put through things they don't deserve." 2 stars for the Owner answering some of my questions.Be swell. Be good to yourself & everyone around you!

I had a great experience with Acar Auto Rental this past week June 7 - June 10. I needed a car rental on short notice. I spoke with Dan and he immediately was able to accommodate me. I needed to drive 2 hours away for an appointment. He worked to get me a car and I was on my way. I initially needed a car for 1 day, but my business required I stay longer. I called Dan and he allowed me to keep the car. He was very professional and accommodating. The vehicle was in good condition, clean and it was a perfect rental! Thanks Acar Auto Rental! I will always use Acar when I'm in the Duluth, MN area! Great business and great people!

Sign up and Processing 5/5Quick and easy less than 30 mins total time with no reservation. I clearly stated my needs and the representative was able to find a suitable car within 5-10 minutes. Car pickup was smooth and efficient. I showed up and was given the keys. Did a 2 minute car check and was told about any damages already on the car and how much gas was in the tank.Rules and Rates 4.5/5Best rates I found within my given time frame (3 days before my trip). As a young adult it was great to see that there was no extra charge for being under 25. Rates on the website are front and center and easy to understand, although it would have been nice to be able to see the rates in the office aswell.Being restricted geographically to Minnesota and Wisconsin was of no issue to me. But might be for others. Rules were stated to me clearly, but only through conversation. Would be great if there was a place to look at the rules while away from the office and without calling. Regardless, calling into the office was quick and clarification was given right away.Payment 5/5There was a 250 dollar hold on my account for the duration of my trip. Within a few hours of dropping off the car I was given the whole bill with a break down of where I was charged. Was easy to understand and parse.Service/Misc.Both representatives I spoke to were polite and professional. Did not feel uncomfortable with speaking to either. When communicating responses were clear and quick. I had no additional/hidden fees for holding onto the car for longer than I had stated (one more day), just had to pay the additonal day rate.Would reccomend to those who are planning to rent.

Save money and rent off airport. Why pay additional fees. This company will direct bill your insurance company if needed.

We had a vehicle in the shop for over a week. Even though I reserved the reservation for 1 week, they were flexible and let us hang onto the car longer. The stress of not having a car when having to work and run a kid around was instantly gone. They were friendly and the car was in great shape and practically new. We will definitely use them for future needs!

Better than a dealership to buy used excellent owner!!!! Got everything set up. And delivered in perfect clean shape. Highly recommended!!!!!
