“Loved looking through all the books, tons I’ve never heard of. Friendly staff but they still make you wear a mask upon entry. Excited to read this book I got about the toxic dyes we have in our clothes. Cute figurines and bags too!”
“They were the only book shop in town willing to order me a rare English book. That was 10 years ago and I've been shopping with them ever since. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, affordable, I love paperback exchange!”

1605 Mainstreet, Hopkins“I went to Cream and Amber for the first time this weekend and I was impressed the reviews did not oversell the experience.A friend recommended I check out this cute reading café, so I gave it a shot. What I found was a lovely space with an even more welcoming staff. It was clear the people running the show are the same people who could want to spend their time there. It is a cozy space with appropriately lively energy - many familiar greetings and warm conversations to provide a comfortable background for reading. ♥”
“I never even knew a place like this existed til I was in the area one day and walked in just to check it out. They've got books, various discs, toys, they even had stuff for old game consoles. I would say check any book you're buying for any mysterious stains before you purchase.”
10AM - 6PM
2716 East 31st Street, Minneapolis“I went into the store looking for paranormal and sci-fi romance and the staff members helped me find several authors that fit the bill. It felt like a treasure hunt in there. I loved the selection of Buffy and Angel books. And the shop dogs were so friendly.”
“A dream of a local independent bookstore…cozy and inviting. The curation and fun and clever book/section descriptions make it great fun to shop…it’s an experience as much as a store! But if you can’t make it in-person, sure to shop them online…support this Minneapolis treasure!”
“I have been wanting to visit Birchbark Books ever since the book club at the coffee shop my husband and I own read The Sentence last year. We finally made it up to MN this weekend and this bookstore did not disappoint! We were immediately greeted by Louise's lovely daughter, Palace. She apparently also has a dog named Kara who they have a painting of in the shop (you can see me posing with her!). This shop has an amazing selection of Indigenous books — it was so hard to choose what to get! Oh, and the confessional from The Sentence is in the shop which is great. I am really looking forward to coming back to this shop.”
“They were so helpful! I let them know what I was looking for and they made a tea specifically for my concerns ❤️ Reasonable prices and everything you could want for natural, holistic, and spiritual health. There is a back room that's easy to miss.”
“Wild Rumpus is a great book store. Love the setup, the variety of books, the book related merchandise. Then you add great staff and fun animals to visit. Love going to their weekly Storytime! They work hard to make it fun and engaging for the kids.”
“Owners and employees were so helpful. They have a great range of items from rare signed books to new releases, figures, Manga, comics and a children's section. Would recommend”
“I could spend DAYS here! So many good books, so much variety. They seem to have trending books as well as old classics. I always enjoy my visits here. The website is also a helpful place to find information about specific books before visiting the store. But you can rest assured you will likely find something just as good if not better if you stop by in person.”
11AM - 5:30PM
604 W 26th St, Minneapolis“Great place for mysteries, crime, and suspense novels. Sections broken down into True Crime, Scottish Authors, Scandinavian Authors and so on. Fun and cozy independent bookstore!”
“I love this sweet little store! It has a nice selection of gifts and books with a range of prices. I only make it in about once a year but the owner always remembers me. It's also nicely located near a coffee shop and some food places so you can grab a book and go relax with a hot drink to enjoy your purchase. I also like that they sell items from some Minnesota-based vendors. Great place to find gifts.”
“Be prepared for digging through boxes and boxes of books when u visit this treasure trove of a used book store. Staff are literate and provide endless book talk if coaxed in any fashion!”
“Ursula was super insightful and friendly. She did a great job of making us feel comfortable and had a fantastic positive energy about her. Just fantastic! Loved hearing the positive parts of what I thought were negative cards! So insightful!”

“I found this place by chance the night before, when I was looking for coffee shops in the area. This is a pretty small space, but very warm and inviting. These folks are still practicing covid safety protocols which is extremely reassuring, and they have an expansive selection of leftist political books, various categories ranging from theory and history to cooking and mental wellness. They even have children's and young adult books! There's something in here for everyone, and I'm really glad I visited. Will definitely be back whenever I find myself in the area again!”
“Lots of books! In my opinion my favorite books are the Manga! (If yoy don't know what manga are then I'll tell you! There japanese books, mainly from an anime* to the manga!) *Anime is a japanese cartoon*”

“Great selection of leftist books and periodicals, including some used books. Expect to find friendly and helpful people hanging out, if you're looking for conversation. They carry the classics of theory as well as some newer fiction and analysis. Highly recommended.”
“I'm just happy book stores made it through the covid junk. Still more expensive than online but you don't go to these stores for the price. You go for the smell and the feel and being surrounded by countless authors and knowledge. This one is clean and decently organized. Staff could be a bit more courteous but not offensive enough to drop it a star.”
“Really cool book shop with fantastic folx working there and very keen to help. I felt welcomed and valued, but also cool to hang out and read in their lounge area. Bought a book recommended by a fellow tutor employee, and loved the tin ceiling atmosphere. Highly recommend.”

“Dont let this unassuming store front fool you. This is one of the best comic book stores I have been to. There are literally 1000's of comics. Not only are there comics but shelves of other cool books, too. Check it out. You'll be glad you did!”
“Tessa at the B& N in Minneapolis/Greenway, across from Lake Calhoun was phenomenal. She helped me over the phone and though her own location did not have the book I asked for, she ordered it from the warehouse AND told me of another location I could find it at. All that , with a smile in her voice. Thank you, Tessa! From Lili”

“My child loves this store and no stop at MOA is complete without a stop here. This visit we had a few books we were specifically looking for. The associate who helped us was very knowledgeable and friendly. She quickly helped us find what we were looking for. This location is very large and has a tremendous amount of variety. The sale sections are also plentiful, easy to find a new read/game/song/movie. The children's section is very welcoming and full of great selections for young readers. All staff I have ever encountered here has been pleasant and helpful. It's always busy but, they keep the line moving quickly. We will always return because, books rule!”
