We were a party of 9 for Father’s Day brunch on 6/16:24. We had a 1:00 reservation that we were assured would give us plenty of time to enjoy before the buffet ended. It was a very disappointing meal. Serving bowls of fruit & relishes were empty, hot food was cold, selection was poor & below average at best. The total tab for our meal was over $500. Wanted to do something special for family we do not see often. Just do not want anyone else to have the same experience here. Our server was attentive however. Certainly not her fault.

My husband and I have stayed here 4 or 5 times for our anniversary over the years. We love it so much we keep coming back! This last time we went, Shane was working the front desk and gave us a tour and told us stories about the inn's beginning! It truly is historic. We appreciated that SO much. Thank you, Shane! Peggy is also someone we have always remembered. She is always so sweet and makes us feel right at home. She makes sure any needs are met and we also just love the laid back conversations we have had with her over the years! Peggy- your the best!! Thank you for all you do! My only suggestion is switching up the breakfast a bit :) I loved the very first time we went you had bacon and biscuits and gravy which was outstanding! We will be back for sure :)

Peggy at the front desk was amazing and made us feel welcomed. She showed us to our room and gave us all the information we needed for our stay. I have to say the hotel itself needed a little TLC but we enjoyed our time there.

Our children gave us a night stay at the Afton House Inn as a gift. The moment we walked through the door the staff were very friendly and ready to serve us. The atmosphere was relaxing, the food and service at both attached restaurants was great and our room was very comfortable... including a King sized bed and large jacuzzi tub. It's located in the town of Afton, with a quiet, small town feel, but located on the St. Croix River and very close to larger cities if your looking for more activity.

Note: This is a review on brunch at the restaurant. I’ve never stayed at the hotel.
I rarely leave critical reviews but Mother’s Day Brunch was poor. We were super excited to have the whole family together. We’ve done Mother’s Day brunches in the past and this was no where near those levels of food and service.
We had a later reservation and things were picked over on the buffet. However, the price was the same as those who were there earlier when things were presumably fresh. We dropped almost $500 on powdered scrambled eggs, dry salmon, cold and woody Brussels Sprouts (that looked great), and crusty and effectively empty pans of hash browns, and others. This wasn’t only on the first trip through but got worse on the second trip. It’s a buffet, but even then we waited for plates to be cleared and for drink refills. Also, paying extra for black coffee on a $42 buffet is insane.
I love Afton and I loved the Afton House for brunch — before.
