UPDATE- Avoid this shop. They will not diagnose your vehicle just jump to a you need a rebuild! After I had a buddy of mine reflash my truck everything is fixed now. Apparently my superchips tuner correcting the speedo for bigger tires set the shift points off. I hate I ordered the speed sensors and the line press sensors prior to going with my gut but only out $50. This shop is not qualified to diagnose modern transmissions. This shop owes me $113! Do the right thing and go through your receipts and credit me!Took my truck in for a diagnostic and told them up front what it was doing. I explained I got an incorrect gear 4 ratio code that I can make appear under a certain driving condition yet shifting though gears and manually downshifting there are no issues. Seems electrical/programming to me but what do I know? I've been turning wrenches quite awhile myself.Later I return and they said they are waiting for the truck to cool then wanted to road test it again. So I said I can replicate the issue no problem so we agree to let me drive someone to show them what it's doing. Get back and am told it needs rebuild for $3600, that will be $113 today please, oh and with a card there's a 3% fee LMAO. I asked well the truck was never brought into a bay and all we did was road test it, so are we paying me to do your diagnostic or am I paying you to give me a quote on a transmission?! No checking the fluid for debris, no informing me of my leaking trans line that I do know about lol. This trans only has roughly 25,000 miles on it and HIGHLY doubt it needs rebuilt. I will replace the pressure sensor and speed sensor, after that if needed will have the TCM reflashed at the dealer and will update this review after my conclusions. The attitude I received after asking to waive the 3% fee was comical. I've heard they do decent work so I left 2 stars. I'm going to finish proving myself wrong before accepting this trans that has a quirk and drives perfectly fine 99.8% of the time is bad.Response to reply:Also I clearly stated I would update the review once I verify if you are correct which I do not agree. The transmission does not slip. I just checked the fluid again since I JUST NOW replaced the trans lines and the trans fluid is RED as RED as it is coming out of the bottle. My worst case scenereo will be the shift solenoid but a thorough diagnostic was not done, just a simple test drive and scan tool which I can do myself. I should have just done the work myself, I should have known better this part I will take blame for. At 23,000 miles the clutch pack is not toast, I'm sorry but it's just not. Not tarnishing a rep just because, but because it was never put on a lift to check for kinked wires, couldn't even tell me it's leaking fluid, and couldn't do an appropriate test drive which I had to do for you. To get a trans to knockdown gear isn't rocket science, especially for a trans shop. That WOULD NORMALLY be part of a test drive lol. The waiving the $3 was brought up as kinda a joke, but the attitude that immediately flared basically bought the review. $100 I was just gonna eat and go on my way. Also I said in the review I hear you do good work, just be sure it's in fact what you need as there are MANY parts to a trans that can cause issues that can be repaired for a lot less than $4000. This trans was installed at the dealer 2 years ago and 23,000 HIGHWAY miles. My apologies for disagreeing with you.Update on 2/7/2024 Truck still running fine and pulling 6000# when needed just fine. Doubt I'll get the $3 credit card fee back let alone the $100 for a diagnostic which was never done besides the simple OBD scanner which I had already done prior to going there and TELLING them what the code was which they just REPEATED to me for $103 lmao.*Side note to anyone who may read this, since this this trans shop couldn't diagnose crap, if you have a Dodge vehicle, mine being a Ram, beware of superchips tuners. It somehow corrupted my TCM and needed to he reflashed so correct valu

We used Total Transmission and Gear a couple of years ago and I must say it was so worth the cost. They did a wonderful job on our vehicle. We had no problems with the vehicle up until the day we gave it to a family member. If you are looking for a reliable transmission auto shop, I recommend Total Transmission and Gear. They did not cut corners and did not use generic/low cost parts. You get your money's worth.

I did not get service or speak with anyone here. I tried calling a couple times this morning with the number they have here on google and it’s actually someone else’s house phone. The lady called me back and I explained I was trying to reach a trans shop. Please update the number!!

I had a problem with my chevy 8speed transmission. They fixed it, test drove it , told me they could still get it to shudder , but drive it to get new oil throughout transmission plates. The transmission is working great now, have not had any issues. The crew at Total transmission are true professionals that specialize in drivetrain issues. I will not take any of my vehicles anywhere else for drivetrain work.Service: Transmission

Hello good afternoon, I do not call because I do not speak English, I have a buick lesabre 2003, I want to change the Selenoid to my transmission, very rarely hits a little when making the change, from time to time presents that failure, I had a buick the same and did the same and changed the selenoids and worked perfectly, throws the code P1811, I wonder what the price is to replace that?

I recently had a very disappointing experience with Total Transmission and Gear. My Volkswagen car was experiencing transmission issues, so I decided to take it to their shop for a thorough check and repair. Unfortunately, my interactions with them left me thoroughly unsatisfied.I visited their shop twice, hoping that they would be able to diagnose and fix the transmission problem. However, to my dismay, I was informed during my second visit that they couldn't assist me because my car was a Volkswagen. What baffles me is that they were well aware of the make and model of my vehicle from the very beginning, yet they failed to disclose their inability to handle Volkswagen cars.It is incredibly frustrating to invest time and money in a service provider only to be turned away at the last minute with no prior warning. The lack of transparency and communication on their part is highly unprofessional. If they were unable to service Volkswagen cars, they should have clearly stated so at the outset, saving me the trouble of two wasted visits. In the end, I was left with no choice but to take my Volkswagen to the dealership for the necessary repairs. Not only did this inconvenience me, but it also made me question the competence and integrity of Total Transmission and Gear. I cannot recommend their services based on my negative experience, particularly if you own a Volkswagen or expect clear and honest communication from your service provider.Service: Transmission

The work they did on my 2013 Silverado (replace the flex plate) was done correctly, priced fairly, and my truck was ready sooner than expected. For any future transmission work, they have my business. Highly recommended! HHService: Transmission

I've own 2002 Explorer since it was new. It is in pristine condition and rarely driven in Michigan winters. I always keep up the service and repairs. Over the years, I have had Total Trans replace the trans fluid 3 times, replace clutch packs in the differential and most recently, change rear axle fluid. The SUV has 192K miles, including over 10 trips to Florida. 02 vintage Explorers are notorious for failing transmissions but thanks to Total Trans, the original drive train performs flawlessly to this day (just completed a trip to South Carolina). These guys are honest, knowledgeable and run a trustworthy business for drive train repairs. I highly recommend.Service: Transmission

Went there to have my 2006 Grand marquis serviced for a leaking wheel seal (RR) and having the whole rear axle serviced with new gaskets and fluid, was recommended this shop by Guardian car care so I took the chance with them, since getting the car back, I’ve haven’t zero issues with the car, I trust the mechanics there know their skill and are proficient at it, I will definitely be returning for more work when the time comes, definitely recommend this shop, prices are also really good too.Services: Steering & suspension repair

Back in May I took my 2014 Durango to total transmission. They found we had more than trans. problems. I believe the lady's name was Dawnthat call to let me know I had other issues more than the trans. I had a great experience with everyone I was in contact with. Reasonable price for all the work they did. Thank you again for your professionalism. I've already recommended them to friends.Services: Transmission

My daughter's transmission was leaking fluid. Dropped the Ford Escape off on Sunday and left keys in the key drop. Amy called the next day with a detailed quote and timing. Car was complete in 2 days. We've taken our vehicles to TT&G before. Always quality work and always done quickly. Help support our local downriver businesses!!! Thanks Amy and Ron. Todd & Makenzie

I can't recommend this shop enough! I had them rebuild the transmission on my 03 Yukon Denali a year ago. The truck still shifts like it's brand new and pulls my trailer no problem. Their staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I will definitely be taking all of my future vehicles here!Service: Transmission

I was getting a howling sound when coasting. Took it to the dealer and several other places, that just wanted to throw parts at it (tires, brakes, transfer case, etc.). Brought in into TT&G. They were very up front of when they could look at it (really busy). They took the time to really look at it and tell me what was wrong. Gave me a fair price and estimated date of completion. They were actually done several days earlier than they said, and it runs better than ever. Got trans or gear problems, GO HERE FIRST!!!Service: Transmission
