Had a terrible experience there on Saturday
We are Canadian and decided to cross the border as we had heard great things about the store for our upcoming hiking trip
We had a list of items to
Purchase
The service was terrible. We had someone trying to help us with hiking pants that didn’t seem interested in us at all. Then rain coats were of poor quality
The prices were truly outrageous. Honesty double the price Off what one would pay in Canada and in American dollars
The hiking boots that we went for were outrageously expensive to the point of affordable we ended getting a cheaper pair than I would have liked but I Was worried we wouldn’t be able to get them if we waited too much longer as the season might be gone
They were about 10 people in the store in terms of customer service when we went to check out there was two people ahead of us in line and only one person at the counter to check people out. He had already taken 20 minutes with one customer finally someone had to tell him to get other people to check us out out.
I learned I had to pay a $30 membership fee and at that point I should’ve just aborted but have investing me and my children time looking for the boots I decided to purchase
Immediately on my return, I went to the Columbia outlet here in windsor And everything here was way better quality, and about half the price And customer service was superb here in Canada
I totally regret getting the membership and the items I purchased. I plan to return them.
Please don’t waste your time or money going to the store. It’s not worth it instead Go to a Columbia outlet store where everything is way cheaper and better quality

Christian was super helpful with my questions regarding electronic bikes. If they sold the model I was debating, I would’ve definitely purchased through REI. Will definitely use them for my future repairs.

Really disappointing experience never coming back to this REI. On 9/1 from 6:30-7:30 ish I interacted with two male staff who were so inattentive I felt invisible. I left feeling so poor about my purchase. I was in the shoe section for triple the time as the other (also male) customers because they were busy ignoring my eye contact and tending to the order customers with urgency importance. I don’t expected to be waited on hand and foot but I do expect equal treatment whether I “look like” your usual outdoors person or not. I’m an adult human and I know when I’m being treated differently.

This was my first time visiting an REI store. Service is horrible here. I came in the morning to the shoe section and it was busy but none of the staff tried to help me or even acknowledge my presence. They didn’t say hi or tell me to let them know if I wanted to try a pair in my size…it only takes a few seconds to say that. This one male staff in particular totally ignored me and that was frustrating so I left the store. I came back in the afternoon and it was less busy. That same male staff approaches me but I was still annoyed by him so I completely ignored and walked by him and walked up to a woman and asked for my shoe size. I can hear him behind me say under his breath “really?” - HAH yes really now you know how it feels to be IGNORED now deal with it. I tried some shoes but that negative experience in the morning was still bothering me so I walked out without buying anything.

I was looking for a hiking bag (and had already picked one out based on online reviews) but the staff member helped make sure it was in fact the right choice and even did the setup for me!

We’ve been here a lot, from browsing outdoor shoes and winter jackets to mountain bike service and repairs. The variety is good, but it’s important to do your own research beforehand! Though I do trust that anybody would be in good hands with the consistent bangers in quality. If not, the return process is fairly simple.
The service is always friendly and ready to help. The store and restrooms are clean. We will keep going here!

I came to REI to return some stuff that did not fit me/i was not satisfied with (shoes, rainshell, and pants). The cashier said: “I don’t need to explain that this looks bad, right?” I bought the items 3 weeks ago and wore the items on 1 hike. I had a different problem with each item that I experienced during that hike. The pants were slightly too long, the shoes did not fit well causing blisters, and the rainshell, I thought, would provide some kind of warmth that I later learned did not. I have been a shopper at REI for over 3 years now and this was the first time I have ever returned something. This was also the first store (and interaction) that has left a terrible taste in my mouth. 1 star from me and will not be coming back here.
