I was in the Troy, MI Golf Galaxy (790 E Big Beaver Rd, Troy, MI 48083) on Sunday, Aug 11th, 2024 to shop for a few things, including some yellow Pro V1 golf balls (the website said the store had 1 box left). I have purchased many things over the years from this store, but not anymore.
As I was looking through the golf balls for this box of yellow Pro V1s, I accidentally dropped a box on the floor and it opened. As I'm picking them up, I hear "How are we doing over by the Pro V1s?" I looked up and it was an employee racing over to me, and his only question was "are you trying to move balls around to take all same number balls in one box?" to which I told him that I dropped the box & was just picking them back up and that I was looking for the one box of Yellow ones and that he shouldn't accuse me of something I wasn't doing.
I then gave him another chance to be polite and change his questioning to something helpful. So I again asked him, "Are you accusing me of trying to take all same number balls in one package?" to which he chose to double down on his accusation of me and replied "a lot of people try to do it so..." . Of course, while he's being loud and accusing me, I have other customers staring at us and walking away from the area as the employee is making me look like a thief.
It was at this point I decided I was no longer buying anything at this store, so I handed him the socks I was going to purchase and told him I do come in quite often & purchase a good amount from this store, but I will not be back because of him.
The employee was Steve...the Manager.
From now on, I can shop for any of my golf equipment at Carls Golfland or the HUGE brand new PGA Tour Superstore in Novi Michigan.

Just went in to have loft/lie adjustments, plus purchase a few irons shafts. Andrew was terrific! Great price too!

Everything in this store is ridiculously overpriced which would be okay if you had customer service to go along with it which they have none so as far as I can see there's absolutely no reason to shop at this store

I went into Golf Galaxy for the first time today. I'm pretty new to golf and wanted to check out what they had. I am going to be buying a new driver and putter in the next month and some additional long and short game clubs. I wanted to see if I could find a place that hired professionals that could help me find what is right for me. I got a few of the standard "let me know if you need anything" from some of the associates. I was trying out some of the putters, a little overwhelmed. The PGA pro that works there came and started chatting with me. I let him know I was a little overwhelmed and that I was just beginning my golf journey. When he asked if I had taken any lessons (at this point I didn't know he was the guy who gives lessons), I told him I'm over at Golftec. The condescension that oozed as he asked me how much I paid for my 40 lessons and 90 minutes a week for 12 months. That I could have paid a quarter as much for 10 lessons from him. The message was clear "I'm an idiot and wasted my money". I tried to move forward like "yes, I don't want to rush into anything when buying a club. It's a big investment." I guess this signaled to him that I wasn't going to be spending any money as he pointed me to the used clubs and turned his back to talk to someone he knew. I make good money and have $1,500 budgeted for the items I mentioned above. But I won't be buying them at Golf Galaxy. They did have a big selection and everyone else was at least pleasant. It's the problem with us hobbyist and these big box stores. I want someone who comes from a place of depth and wanting to understand where I'm at in the hobby and make the right recommendation for me. This is all I meant by not wanting to rush. I'll be checking out Carl's Golfland instead and hope it is a better place to spend money on some golf clubs.

Personally, I’ve only had good experiences here over the years. Relatively attentive staff, great selection for the size of the store and fair prices.

Went to buy a Cobra Stiff shafted Aerojet driver from the rack marked $249. I get to the checkout and the guy says $700. Oh well this has an upgraded shaft. So why put it with the ones marked $249. I had just spent $140 regriping a set of irons. It was the last stiff flex and it’s an old model. Poor retailing they forget one of the best golf retailers in the country is right here. Carl’s here I come. They didn’t even try to work something out.

This store has set me up for my club set over the years and have had regular good experiences here with the staff. Regular sales help with prices. Plenty of options to choose from here. Plenty of parking here.
