I contacted Mackinaw Vet Associates today to get my cat in as a new patient. Dr. Zuker had good reviews on Google. I see Mackinaw Vet Associates is a family business and I am happy to escape the corporate structure of our current pet care at Midland Animal Hospital. Dr. Berg is our vet at Midland Animal clinic and she is fine, but the reception staff there is increasingly stressed/rude and the costs seems to continually rising. I called Midland Animal Hospital yesterday to ask how much a visit and urinalysis cost and was quoted three prices: the office visit, the cost of the test, and an additional fee for the Dr. to interpret the test results, around $200 total. That feels to be too far on the side of a money-grab, so it is the catalyst for finding a new place. Luckily it is not two years ago when there were very few Vets in this region accepting new patients. So today, speaking with Kayla at Mackinaw Vet Associates, it was thoroughly explained to me that I must fill out a form she will email to me, in order to be considered as a new patient. This is the language copied and pasted from their site regarding their process for becoming a new patient: "Please complete this form to apply to become a client at MVA. Your application and previous veterinary records will be reviewed by management. You will be contacted when we are ready to schedule your pet's first appointment." I offer that little to no concern is given to people who are seeking medical care for their pets sooner than later. How long will this initial investigation last?Another policy for new patients is that "previous vet records must be received no later than 48 hours in advance of the appointment." Is this dynamic the relationship-building exercise intended for new clients? Have these policies been thought out? After waiting a while and checking my email for the new patient form, I called back and spoke with a different person, Andrew, who is Dr. Zuker's husband. Andrew was cordial and after three more attempts at sending the email, it finally came through. While waiting, I asked Andrew how much euthansia would cost for my old Dog, and he placed me on hold to find out. After a few minutes the phone was lifted and set down again, disconnecting the call, so I called back. Another person answered the phone and she explained that it is law that a Vet can refuse to euthanize, depending on the circumstances. I told her that I am sure there is reason for this law, however I question how well it was thought out, because if I bring my suffering Dog in to be put down, and somehow the Vet disagrees, what am I as pet owner supposed to do? Good luck finding a shelter that is not overly full, and I would never choose to abandon my suffering pet to a shelter anyway. So what could I do? Find someone to shoot him in the head instead of a dignified and controlled passing at the Vet? Of course what could she respond to this logical question? Considering my fur babies are all rescues, I posed another question on their policies, "What if I don't have vet records?" My rescues have never come with Vet records. what then? So the receptionist becomes frustrated with my questions, they are well-meaning questions, but frustrating none-the-less. They are frustrating because they expose the short comings of these thoughtless policies. So what happens? Dr. Zucker comes on the line, speaking to me in a hostile tone, and raising her voice as if i am harassing the receptionist. What a gaslight! So logical questioning of poorly thought out policies is met with hostiliy and disrespect here. Then she hangs up on me! Wow. Guess I won't be a new patient at Mackinaw Vet Associates. To repeat the facts: I only called on Tuesday, about 10 am, for my cat. I called back the first time around noon because I did not receive the email, when I was put on hold and then disconnected, all as explained. The larger question has become how is it, MTV cannot offer a ballpark quote for a simple euthanasia? Why all the hoops and adversarial process? : MTV is abou

Dr. Sarah Zuker is amazing as well as her assistant and front office!! Was very impressed with my first visit and her ability to handle my cat who isn't easy to deal with at the vet clinic! Great advise on her foods as she needs special diet. So happy I have found this place!!

It’s been a minute since I’ve gone but I LOVED when they let you go back with your pet. Not a big fan of the parking lot custody swap. I feel like my pet is from a broken home and the parents can’t be in the same room. Dr and staff are wonderful.
