Do yourself a favor and stay away from this dump, nothing works, sauna, steamroom, etc, It's DIRTY! bottom line it looks like a 3rd World gym..

Just swung in to check things out and it's my kind of place. I've been a power lifter for 20-25yrs and have competed in strong man and this is my kinda place. And not bad for the price. I've paid more across the USA and even Canada and this will be my next go to when I get back into it.

This used to be my home gym. For 8 years I lifted there every day and it was my favorite place to be. A Classic Black-Iron gym with plenty of heavy powerlifting equipment. Their trainer Art is the one who got me to start competing. But a few years back things really started going downhill. When I first started there they had some occasional equipment breakage took a bit of time to fix, (especially the cardio equipment, but I was there to lift so it didn't affect me as much.) But eventually it's like they just stopped caring, started taking shortcuts on routine maintenance, especially when it came to cleaning in the locker rooms. When I first started the showers were brightly lit and kept very clean. I know they were getting well-cleaned because the guy who did it was usually finishing up right about the time I was finishing up my workout. But then he was gone, and the maintenance tanked. The showers became gross, and eventually I couldn't take it anymore and switched to LA. I have occasionally picked up a month pass right before I do a competition so I can have access to the specialty bars, but each time the locker room gets worse. Now all but three of the shower heads are capped, and there's half of an entire wall in the shower that is missing it's tiles, including a chunk of wall directly under one of the three remaining showerheads. The edges of the shower are caked in mold and grime. They are supposed to be hosting the State Meet for the APF this coming Spring, I sincerely hope there is a dramatic change between now and then. I'd happily return to this being my main gym if they just started actually taking care of the place. But after this last time going I'm wondering if the Gym I go to now will let me bring in my own Specialty bar instead.

tons of equipment no frills rock and roll gym but they don't replace broken equipment which sucks tons of non working treadmills etc and they don't lubricate the machines very dry , what kind of tees me off a little is they raised the prices , now it's still reasonable and month to month no contracts but if there going to raise prices at least get rid of the junk that doesn't work

The bathroom is constantly dirty and disgusting. The whole place in general is dirty.

Pros: lots of different equipment, classic gym environmentCons: unclean, especially the bathrooms and the machines themselves. A lot of machines and equipment are broken, and it doesn’t seem to get fixed. It’s about half regular gym, half powerlifting/bodybuilding gym, which is fine but can be annoying when you’re trying to do an average workout but have big plates in the way that body builders carried over but didn’t rack. That’s another thing - no one ever racks their weights, and no one ever seems to clean up the place.

it’s a very popular gym and they have a wide range of equipment, my boyfriend loves it here because it’s body builder friendly but I’m pretty sure they haven’t cleaned the place in over two years at least. They just upped daily membership from 5 to 8 dollars and they upped monthly from 30 to 35 but they still haven’t cleaned this place and although I really want to go here it just disgusts me every time. There’s a thick coating of dirt dust and dander everywhere and I wish they would just clean it one time. Just one time. Please. The following picture is the bathroom stall in the lady’s Locker room.

Good old school gym. They don't have much in the way of cables and the bathroom is disgusting but if you want a good actual bodybuilding gym, this is the place to go.

Solid gym for strength training. Serious about strength, and on a budget, check this place out, ask for Jasmine, she totally took care of us

Seriously the best environment for serious working out. Been going here since it was Gold's Gym back in the 80's .Not cleaned like the old days but price is right and can shower at home...I am there for the hard core atmosphere and dedication to the sport / hobby / PASSION of it all. Use it or lose it approach as I am a senior and want to maintain my muscle mass as long as I am alive and breathing. I do miss the fact that the stair master has been out of commission for ever...used it religiously pre weight training...feel I am missing something without a good aerobic challenge. The trainers are as much or more in your ballpark pertaining to whatever your fitness goals are ...I have yet to use one through my 42 years lifting , but see the results they produce and may very well get on board with doing so. Sincerely, Rita

I've been going here for about half of a year now and I think I can make a proper review! This gym isn't a commercial gym, so if dropping weights or hearing people grunt is a pet peeve, I'd steer clear. This place is pretty specialized for those who workout in a powerlifting/bodybuilding style. Though the environment has a healthy level of competition and motivates you to push yourself, everybody is super welcoming and friendly.PROS: It's deceptively large inside the building. There are 6 deadlift platforms, 7 squat racks, 8 places to bench. I RARELY have to wait to use one of these amenities that typically are hogged in commercial gyms. In fact, most gyms around the area don't even let you DL. There are also a ton of specialized barbells and vintage machines that you could not find in a normal gym. I haven't used all of them, but if you were deep in the hobby this could be very important. As I mentioned, people come here and put in the work. That environment alone is essential for getting a good workout in. There's also the hilarious factor of hitting a PR, looking up and immediately seeing a poster of Arnold Schwarzenegger smiling down on you.CONS: You do have to plan your workouts better since the place does close at 9:30 most nights, and earlier on the weekend. The downside of vintage equipment is that it occasionally needs a bit more TLC. Sometimes you find a dumbbell with one side unscrewing itself or a bench that doesn't lock in the inclined position. Cleanliness could be a bit better, spray bottles don't really have a designated spot. Sometimes there are plates loaded up on unoccupied machines or scattered across the gym. That being said, they don't have the staff size like a commercial gym, so to be honest there should be some level of realistic expectation of it not being as pristine as one.Overall if you have a no-frills weightlifting approach to working out, look no further!. It's a great value at $32 no contract, even less if you are a student under 25.

The best gym ever. It's old school. I myself have been to several gyms. If you want a gym that you can get in a serious workout and not mutherfuckers sitting on a machine texting. Royal oak gym is for real workouts not socializing.

Surprised at how many good reviews this place has.... Towels used to clean machines are brown.... Theres garbage all over the ground, holes in the ground covered by plywood/carpets, broken mirrors, broken machines.... (And the list goes on). Its eerie how theres no music and no windows... making it feel like a prison gym. As for positives they allow chalk and heavy lifting. I get how people may like the old school vibe of this place but it doesnt make up for the fact that it is filthy and outdated! Some paint and updating and cleaning would go a long way for royal oak gym.

Definitely recommend this studio! The team here is great! The coaches are super encouraging, with the right balance of a push and support when you need it most. The studio is always super clean, the work outs are fun and I've built strength over the past few months which was my goal.
