I loved the campground setup. It wasn't super spread out but was so close to the beach that we had sand as our lot. It's a "gotta try it at least once" experience that we will totally be back for.

Great State Park to visit or stay. Nice beach, picnic pavillion, newer playground. Have camped here years ago and enjoyed the stay. Also close enough to the town of Pentwater to walk or bike into for shopping, eating, or attending a craft fair.

Awesome beach-front campground with no trees blocking my starlink or telescope. Real long and wide sandy beach - great experience.

Such a fun place to visit! Incredibly busy campground in the summer. Mostly RV and pop-ups, but there are some came sites. It's right on the beach which is great for summer chillin (there's a dog friendly section of the beach) and even walkable to downtown Pentwater. We enjoyed hiking up to Old Baldy and getting food at Chucks on the Beach.Playground: Not much inside the campground itself. There's a big steel slide that will give your 2nd degree burns in the summer, and two squeaky swings. But there is a good size more modern playground on the beach with a padded floor underneath. Plenty of swings and space for fun!Restrooms: Spacious, clean, warm water when you need it. What more do you need?Dog-friendliness: Extremely dog friendly! There's even a dog friendly beach. However, it's the farthest section of beach from the campground so be prepared to haul your gear across the boardwalk.Picnic area: Ample picnic tables all around the campground. The covered spaces are more limited, but good!

I've been going here for 27 years and it's always an amazing time! The park is very well maintained and friendly. Make sure to climb old baldy trail while you're there, lots of fun to run down at the end!Dog-friendliness: One of the few beaches on Lake Michigan that have a designated dog area!

Super nice quiet campground we went late August It's very quiet then. If you go in the middle of July there'll be a lot more people there's not a whole lot to do. But that just might be the ticket. Sit on the beach all day and relax.

What could be better than camping this close to the beach? My family and I have been camping here for 20 years and come back at least once every year. The little village of Pentwater, is a quick and easy walk to ice cream, shops, and boutique stores, with not a chain store in sight.

Beautiful beach. Wonderful modern playground. Very nice State Park campground. Bathrooms always clean. The town of Pentwater is a wonderful small town. Close enough to walk to. Restaurants and coffee shops are delicious and great shopping in cosy stores.

Beautiful park and beach. The quaint nature of Pentwater makes it more enjoyable than most Lake Michigan communities. Do yourself a favor and make a visit before summer ends. Expect to overpay for food, but it's well worth it as it makes for a priceless family event. We have made it an annual event.

Mears sate park is awesome. My family and I come up here every year and Mears is always on the list of things we have to do. We kept coming back and will continue to do so.It is very clean and the beach is perfect for kids and adults alike.Swimming is a wonderful experience with the crisp cool water that is crystal clear. There is plenty of room to swim around and the water depth increases very gradually so it's perfect for new swimmers and experienced. The beach is kept clean and parking is easy.We will be back year after year!

Mears State Park is one of our favorite Michigan campgrounds and beaches. I know some people probably prefer wooded camp sites so they would need to choose somewhere else. Ideally, you would be able to reserve a camp site on the outside of the loop. This will insure that you are not pressed up against everyone else as tightly. When the campground is full, it can feel pretty tight in certain areas. The beach is as close as you can get, and it's beautiful. Additionally, it's nice that it is walking distance to the downtown area for ice cream or other things.Restrooms: The bathrooms are on par for a Michigan State Park campground which is pretty decent in my experience compared to other parts of the country.Dog-friendliness: There were many dogs at the campground. Supposedly, there is a dedicated dog area on the beach, but I never saw where that was. There were 3 families near us with their dogs just in the regular beach area and everyone was well behaved without issues.
