Sadly I had to call them for price of euthanasia and cremation cost, she was very nice and professional on the phone. Only vet office I've dealt with for years.

My wife took Bailey, our 11 year old German Shepherd to RRVC to be seen for excessive panting. Bailey would pant all the time, even while just resting in her bed. Bay was getting restless, and uncomfortable during the night because of the panting. My wife explained the situation to the vet and he immediately said Bay had cushings disease but he would run their senior blood panel test in order to verify his diagnosis. The vet never took Baileys temperature, he only listened to her heart/lungs momentarily and said everything sounded "perfect". The vet reassured my wife that cushings was the probable cause and said xrays or heart and lungs was unnecessary because everything sounded fine...even though he didn't listen long enough to make an accurate determination. The Dr. assured us the blood work would likely show high liver enzymes which would confirm cushings. The blood was drawn and my wife and Bailey were sent home to await the call with results. The phone call never came as promised by the vet so my wife called in the next day to check on the results. The lady that answered the phone said all levels were fine and the test didn't show anything abnormal. As you can guess, this was concerning for my wife and I however the vets office didn't think this was cause for concern. My wife clearly asked the lady at the desk, "so you're saying our dog is perfectly healthy" and she said yes. Come to find out, their senior blood testing only checks 6 levels and is incredibily incomplete when they use it to guarantee a pets health. My wife and I took Bailey to Heritage Animal Hospital in Dundee, this is where we take our other pets, however, we had not switched Bailey over to Dundee as of this visit. We called and made an appointment with Heritage. When we arrived they were great and listened to all of our concerns. They had to call RRVC twice in order to get Baileys test results sent over. Heritage took x-rays and immediately notified my wife and I that Bailey had cancer and her chest cavity was filling with fluid, which was the cause of her abnormal breathing. Bailey turned blue during the xrays due to her breathing issues and not being able to effictively get oxygen into her blood. Baileys lungs were not able to expand fully which was caused by the fluid in her chest. The vet at Heritage shpwed us the next xray of Bay's liver which was enlarged due to cancer. This was the root cause of all of the health issues we were seeing, not cushings disease. On December 6th, at 6:45 p.m. we had to have Bailey put to sleep due to her health issues. As you can imagine, this was a complete shock as RRVC had just given her a 100% clean bill of health just 1 week prior. Heritage was great through this process and guided us through this journey. We just got Baileys ashes back yesterday, it came with a plaster paw print, a nice urn and certificate confirming Bailey had been cremated and how sorry they were for our loss.Through the years we never had much issue with RRVC but for them to completely misdiagnose our 11 y/o family member was tragic. Had we not sought out a second opinion Heritage felt Bailey would have passed in our home within a couple of days. This whole situation has been a shock to our family. We lost a pet, a friend, and a major member of our pack. I'll miss her meeting me at the door when i come home from work.
