We rented a pontoon from this company recently. Unfortunately we had a bad experience. When we rented the boat we asked if they could provide a map. They told us there were no maps available. There was also no radio on the boat for communicating in emergency situations. (I don't know whether this is typical, but I was surprised). A staff member was at the dock to assist with launching. I asked him about safety rules and he said in his opinion there are no rules on the lake! The dock is located on a narrow channel. The staff member explained how to navigate in one particular direction and we launched in that direction while he watched. A few hundred yards downstream we reached a bridge which If we tried to go through, we would have crashed, as there was not enough clearance under the bridge above the canopy of the boat. If we did go through, we would have then encountered the dam leading into lake Michigan. (As already mentioned, no map had been provided). Upon realizing we were going in the wrong direction, we turned around and eventually found our way to lake Leelanau.About 40 minutes into our trip, the key ignition broke off and fell in under the dashboard. As no toolbox or manual were provided, we weren't able to attempt to fix it. We were able to contact Stander Marine by cellphone, and they sent a mechanic to fix the issue. But overall by the time we were able to reach them and get the issue fixed, we had lost about 2 hours. At this point, my family were quite distressed by the episode, and felt unsafe, and we decided to call it quits and head back to the Stander Marine dock. After returning the boat, I talked with the owner in the office and asked about a partial refund. I was thinking at least a 50% refund would be reasonable, given that our day out was shot. The owner begrudgingly offered a $100 refund (out of an initial cost of $450). I argued and eventually settled for $150, but I told her I wasn't happy with the outcome. I don't have an issue with the equipment malfunction. I understand this is inevitable from time to time. I do however feel that for the company to keep their reputation intact, a larger refund (possibly even 100% would be appropriate). Overall it was a bad experience and I would not recommend this company to anyone. There are plenty other reputable rental companies available in the area

The lady who owns this place is truly unhelpful and miserable. Don't even buy gas there. She is clearly hoping her business fails so she won't have to do it anymore...

If you have a problem with your boat, they will fix it. Tend to be expensive, but they usually fix the problem the 1st time period

We rented a pontoon boat from here and had a great experience. They were very nice and we had no problems whatsoever! The pontoon was great and we had a fun afternoon on Lake Leelanau. Would definitely recommend them, and we would use them again!
