My children have been buying critters, fish and supplies from Preuss Pets for the past 15 years. When they want a day of fun, they always say let’s go to previous pets. They think it’s the zoo. My oldest boy is now 21 and he always sets aside a portion of his paycheck for his favorite place.

This place is the best pet store in Michigan. I have ever been to, hands-down. Not only do they have a large variety of everything in the store, from fish and reptiles to birds of all sorts, but the staff on deck are seriously dedicated to animals employees that truly care about all animals. We came in looking specifically for a bird for our family, and they were nothing short of honest about expectations for owning a bird all while choosing the right bird for us. They seriously spent hours with us, and showed countless times how much they truly care for these animals. We brought our new bird home today and are excited for the future, and very confident that we are equipped with the starting knowlege we need to have as Cockatiel owners. Nate was specifically as absolute bird nerd and we found this so incredibly helpful.On a side note, as a business manager myself, I can honestly say this place runs like a well oiled machine. They certainly have the right people for the right jobs. They are not sale people at all, and in fact prove to be the best sales people due to the amount of passion they have for these animals. This is something every business should take extremely seriously, but is very often overlooked.I commend this store for operations as well as love for animals, and every person in this building deserves a massive kudo’s, from the floor staff to the cashiers.We will certainly be back.

Disappointed at the manager here today. I come here every week. Backed up at the cashier. A lady not in the line was taken before me. The manager said she arrived first. I've been standing in line for at least 3 minutes. He said she didn't know, well you did for at least 3 minutes. Why didn't he tell her to get in line when she arrived. Did not even apologize. Huge store with aisles of products. Over 6 aisles of fish, both fresh and salt water. Lots of birds. Prices were good. Very nice setups for their fish and reptiles.

Love Preuss! When it comes to fish they know their stuff. Anthony and Nikki and Glen are very helpful in the fish department, and helped me mediate a ICH problem I got from buying a PetSmart fish. Thanks!! Plus awesome Birthday Parties for kids!! Cant remember the gal that did my boys birthday party’s name but she was awesome too. I would highly recommend a birthday party here. Fun & educational for all ages.

Absolutely love this pet store, I've gotten tons of reptile supplies from here and a couple animals. Surprisingly, their prices aren't marked up extremely high like other non-chain pet stores. The prices are pretty much what you'd see everywhere else or cheaper. The animals I got from them (Gargoyle gecko and Saharan Uromastyx) are both doing fantastic and are healthy individuals. Unlike most pet stores, it's obvious that immense care is put into each and every enclosure that caters to each animals needs. It's so refreshing to see after being in so many PetSmarts and Petcos that just throw some reptile carpet and a water bowl in a display case and call it good. These habitats look like something you'd see in a zoo, which this place is for a lot of people I'm sure. The staff are super friendly too, and give you some information about the animal you are purchasing and make sure you have the right supplies or at least intend on getting it that day. Unlike some reptile shows I've been to, they don't lie to you and tell you the animal needs say a 20 gallon tank when really they need something much much bigger, just to get you to hand over your money. They are honest about the pros and cons of the animals and I appreciate that a lot. I am someone that does a lot of research prior to buying an animal, but if I was not, the information would be infinitely helpful. Things like how hot the basking spot needs to be, tank size, etc. I will say, the animals I have bought have been pretty expensive compared to say a PetSmart or reptile show, but you're paying for the care put into them. I'd much rather spend $250 on my uromastyx knowing he isn't riddled with parasites and dehydrated that has been living in a beautiful spacious enclosure, than buy one for $60 at a reptile show that is jammed into a 10 gallon tank with 6 other ones and either have it die in a month or have to spend hundreds on vet bills. Can't ask for a better pet store to be honest.

Stopped in for some kitty things and looked at all of the numerous other things Preuss has. A great place to find anything you could possibly make your animal friends happy and healthy. Great staff and clean store!

Preuss Pets is definitely a MUST if ever in Michigan. I’ve easily spent over 2 hours just browsing the huge selection of animals and products available for purchase.I wish I could’ve given 5 stars, but I have to knock one off due to purchasing a Parrot Finch that had 2 missing toes. For $299.99 for a pair, I would’ve expected perfect specimens. While I do understand these things happen, the employee NEVER mentioned anything prior or after catching the bird and putting it in the transport box. I only realized when I got home and put it in its enclosure. I really wish the employee working would’ve been more transparent and let me know of this.

Came from out of town on a road trip to visit this place and the zoo in Lansing. My boyfriend and I loved it! They have a great selection of nearly everything, and I truly enjoying wandering around and looking at everything. I’d love to see them stray away from using wire wheels with the small mammals and rodents soon, as those wheels can catch small toes and feet and can cause injuries. Other than that, I think the place is great! :) I got some cool bioactive supplies that I’m excited to use on a terrarium that I’m redoing for my crested gecko! <3
