This man screamed at me in a manner that made me think he was on some type of drug. He threatened me and threw a pair of heavy ugg slippers at me and struck me and told me who cares call the cops they won't believe you! I did call and he was right thr Lansing Police Dept. acted like they had no idea where I was, even through I was on the next block then they asked me what color he was, were drugs involved or if he had a weapon? How would I know? His weapon was a shoe and I just had back surgery and use a walker. He hit me, screamed at me, threatened me and told me no he would not refund my $55 dollars even though he did a horrible job, didn't clean the slippers and the police didn't care either. What kind of raggedy, biased town with no airport is this? No wonder there are NO good doctors and horrible infustrucure in the Capitol City of MI. I believe the mayor should be fired for being only worried about his own raises every chance he gets and not knowing anything about running a city. The Governor is great but, the rest makes so many homeless and poor people hate this place who would ever want to live here? I can't wait to get the H#$@ out of this crappy place where 5 brown men have been found dead in the last 3 months and it's not even investigated? This is a horrible place with rotten greedy, terrible people running and ruining it. Show me one nice place or street in this city and I will recind every comment. Waiting...

They were able to fix my felt purse, which was great, and he even inspected it to see if there was anywhere else to fix. I had a nice time chatting with him. When I picked up my purse it appeared as though it had been cleaned, which was another bonus. I will be back the next time I need something fixed.

The owner is horribly rude. He put off the date, did not clean the shoes and wouldn't return the money. I am disabled and I asked him why the shoes were not clean he said he couldn't clean them. Then he threw the shoes at me, and hit me in the stomach! Screaming "get out of my store". I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. I called the Lansing Police because he Addams me and they asked me what color he was, if he was on drugs, if I had a weapon. They NEVER asked if I was okay. I knew it would be his word against mine at that point and they wouldn't do anything when all they cared to know about was the things I mentioned. Please don't take your shoes to Contemporary Shoe Repair in Allegan St. on Lansing, MI.

I had a great experience with Contemporary Shoe Repair. The boot was fixed on time, the new hook holds and the service was very polite and friendly. You can gauge that a week before Christmas this shop and the owner were overloaded with orders. But I was happy with the turnaround and the result. Thanks for a great service!

Did a great job repairing my daughter's sandal that was broken. Even offered to check the other one to make sure there wouldn't be similar issues. Great price and great service. Thank you!

I am not one to write vindictive or bad reviews. I don’t really have any interest in tearing down a small or local business, but for the sake of hopefully helping other avoid the issues I have encountered, I wanted to share my experiences. This is based off of 4-5 different pairs of shoes which I have brought to this business over the course of multiple years in the area.First off, the owner has always been nothing but polite. I wouldn’t say I have ever had any issues in my face-to-face interactions.Where my issues have stemmed is with the quality of the work itself and the timeliness of it. $20 is the base rate for repairing or re-gluing a shoe sole at Contemporary Shoe Repair, as far as I can tell. It’s what I’ve paid for any shoe I’ve brought. I don’t know if this is on the cheap side or the expensive end of repairs - as this is the only shoe repair business I’ve frequented. You pay, are given a return ticket stub and told a day to pick up the shoes. Every single time I have returned to pick up a shoe on the date given by the owner, the shoe is not ready. There is always some issue or holdup - and more than once, the repair had not even been started with I arrived (typically about a week later). This is obviously frustrating but whatever, I want to support a local business, I want to reuse shoes and items rather than throwing them away, and I also try to be understanding of people. Timeliness is not the most important thing to me, but it may be to you. Just something to consider. However, again, as you can see in the two most recent pairs of shoes I brought to this place, the workmanship is shoddy at best. Upon picking up the shoes, I could see excess glue all over the shoe along with what appeared to be visible separation or adhesion issues. I told myself to just hang on and wear them - they are sneakers, I don’t need them to “look” clean necessarily, as long as they hold up. Unfortunately, they did not. Within one day of wearing them and walking inside all day, the sole completely fell off on one shoe, with the other close behind.Again, I don’t want to ruin anyone’s life, I don’t want to make personal statements about the owners or employees, all I want to say is that I wouldn’t suggest this business for well-done, long-term, durable shoe repairs that are done on time and in a clean manner that maintains the visual value of your shoe.I’m all for sustainable businesses and truly wish more cobblers/repair shops existed, but this isn’t it. I’m unfortunately out the money spent on repairs at this point and have to find some way to save these shoes from the landfill.

I go to Mark to fix the heels on my work pumps all the time. The gentleman is excellent. I don't understand the other bad reviews except some of the shoes that people take in to be repaired are cheap. He knows how to fix quality shoes, not shoes you got on clearance at Walmart.

I had a very positive experience with Mark. Despite supply chain delays, he replaced the leather soles and heels on a pair of boots. In addition, he spent extra time cleaning the winter salt and water stains from the boots without charging me. When I picked them up, the boots looked brand new and I love them even more than before! We had a lovely conversation, all while he wore a N95 mask and kept a respectful distance. He shared lots of fascinating information about the history of the business, which he purchased from his father, and also about the processes involved in making and repairing my boots. I recommend this cobbler if you're in Lansing and need work done on your shoes!
