The Capital Area Humane Society (CAHS) is a local nonprofit animal-welfare organization founded in 1936. CAHS has been serving the Greater Lansing Area for over 83 years with a mission to promote the humane treatment of companion animals through protection, placement, education, and example. CAHS is not affiliated with any other organizations, nor do they receive government funding or tax dollars. The shelter relies on monetary and in-kind donations, as well as dedicated staff and volunteers.
