We lost over $1000 because of Avis. My wife and special needs daughter lost their vacation because of Avis.I had to work speaking at a conference in Sedona, Arizona. My wife and daughter wanted to come with me because they have not been able to go out to these events with me. We hadn't made special arrangements at the household with my severely handicapped son to stay with his mother, and had been planning it for 6 months. We decided to rent a car from our hometown airport in Kalamazoo and found avis/budget car rental had the best price for us. They quoted us $620 for 10 days on a car rental for a four-door large sedan.Once we got there, they did not have the type of car that we rented, so we got an upgrade for the same price.It started out great, but once I got in the vehicle, it smelled like cigarettes and pot. The pot smell doesn't affect me, but as soon as I picked up my autistic daughter and autistic wife, they both were affected by the smell immediately. We tried to just deal with it because we needed to get on the road, but I called them and let them know what happened. They gave us an idea of how to help get rid of the smell, but it didn't work. The staff in Kalamazoo were friendly and kind, but corporate doesn't give them the type of power to remedy any issues. It was such a shame because the vehicle was a very nice vehicle besides the smells and the chocolate that was left in the back seat melting.The reason I bring up the autism in both my wife and daughter is that autism affects the way that people process information. Any of you who have autistic family members know that smells, lights, and sounds can be overwhelming and cause massive trauma to the person who's dealing with it.We tried to fight through but had to stop every hour or two to get fresh air for both my daughter and wife. Needless to say, we just got to Iowa a day and a half later. We realized we were not going to make it to Arizona on time for my event, so we had to turn around. As horrific as this sounds, this is where the horror actually begins.After letting them know that this happened, they refused to transfer the rental to the Arizona location. They said that different locations have different prices. They also refused to give me a refund, and said I would have to call corporate. I had to end up buying a plane ticket to fly out, which cost over $700 because it was last minute. And once I landed, I had to rent a vehicle again. They wanted almost $600 for 5 days in Arizona, so I went with a different rental company, which cost over $350.I would have never had to fly and never had to rent a secondary vehicle if they had done their jobs and cleaned the vehicles properly. Once I reached Arizona and settled into my hotel, I contacted them, and they refused to help. They charged me $530 for 2 days and one morning that I had the vehicle. So three days cost me $100 less than for the price of 10 days for that same vehicle.????And then, they only offered a one day refund. They said that because I didn't keep the vehicle for over a week, they could not give me the weekly prices. So now, to this day, I've been charged over $350, after the refund, for an experience that cost me over $1,000. They refuse to fulfill a FULL refund.I will never rent from Avis again. They don't care about disabled people. They don't care that they cost me $1,000. They are greedy and refused to have human beings handle the issues with their management teams. They're willing to outsource all of their customer service to other countries, but give them no power to help people. The first lady I spoke to from their customer support service team in india was extremely rude and basically told me there's nothing that they could do about it except for one day return. And when I asked for a boss she laughed and said " That's not how it works".I will make it my life's mission to let every human I know understand how bad Avis customer service is and how bad they screwed over two disabled people, and cost me over $1

Didn't have my car I reserved gave me an electric car was the worse experience ever. ended up tradeing in for a gas automobile. 3hr trip tureen into 8hrs don't not recommend them.

Avis and Budget add fuel charge automatically if you’ve rented a vehicle for less than 24 hours! Every single time the customer has to keep a fuel receipt and fight for the credit! When you’re traveling why is this nuisance needed on top of the anxiety of the travel. An unsuspecting traveler will invariably end up paying this inappropriate charge!

Avis came through for my family and I prior to a severe snowstorm. My car was in the repair shop and Avis found the perfect vehicle for me, exactly when I needed it. I was even able to extend the rental without a whole lot of advance notice. The customer service agents were also helpful and accommodating.

Never rent from Avis. They will not take care of you if you have a problem. Read their Facebook page to get a good idea of how many people have problems with Avis.

My flight was delayed and I was not going to arrive before the counter closed. Austin called me at the airport before I left to tell me where they would leave my rental contract and keys in the booth so that I could pick up the car even though they were closed. With the contract, he also left his cell phone number so that I could call him if I had issues finding the car. I rent over 100 cars a year from Avis. Best customer service I have experienced.
