Poor quality and customer service…
Me and my partner have both had bad and good experiences here. But this last one was our last. We asked them to put on two new tires, rotate them, and align them. Along with other work we had already bought parts for.
The alignment was obviously not done, tires were not rotated and they didn’t save our one good tire for a spare like we asked. They also had to buy additional parts and never called us to confirm that was okay or gave us an estimate upfront for cost.
In addition, even tho we made an appointment 2.5 weeks in advance, they didn’t start working on our vehicle until 3 days after we dropped it off. (This is a recurring thing)
After we picked up our vehicle we were so upset with the job, we took it to belle tire to get the alignment & tires rotated. They had to replace a caster bushing (that brakes by the bay said they replaced, and charged us for) and gave us print outs of the alignment when we brought the vehicle in, after the part was replaced, and then again when the alignment was fully done. There was an obvious difference. - this was an additional $400
I called brakes by the bay to talk to someone about this, and to seek some type of compensation. I had to call three times, over the course of two and half weeks, each time someone “took my info and gave it to the owner.” But NO ONE ever called me.
Finally the last time I called, someone said they’d reimburse us for the alignment and they still have our tire somewhere so they’d give it back…
Kudos for this. But I doubt anyone would’ve called me to handle this unless I continued to follow up. There was no apologies, no accountability and no sense of urgency to make this right. A very poor customer experience. To me it’s clear they just want to cut corners and take advantage of people who don’t know anything about vehicles (not us)
I’d stay away and call another shop. ? if they do a good job on your vehicle, awesome. But just consider when they do something shitty and get caught.

Never been so mad, made an appointment for Monday morning, my truck didn't even get touched until Wednesday, was told it would be a few hundred, ended up being 1300+. Asked for my new tires to be put on the rear and rear ones put up front, new ones were out up front, asked to save one for a spare, they didn't save one, got an alignment and it still pulls to the right just like it did before I dropped it off. Never been so pissed.
Last time I was here for a transmission pan leak they tightened some bolts, charged me 300 and didn't fix the leak, had to take it home and fix it myself. If I would have known it would have cost 1300, not a few hundred, I would have done the work myself and my truck would probably be driving straight with the tires in the right spot.

I was travelling from Holland and my Sprinter van malfunctioned. I was referred to Brakes by the Bay and they got me in immediately. Mike read the codes and reset them. He took it for a test drive with me and everything was copacetic. He explained to me how to purchase and use a code reader so I could perform this myself in the future. Less than a half hour and I was out of there. An excellent example of superior (and human) service. Thank you very much.

My family and I were traveling through Petoskey with our Travel trailer and had an unexpected wheel bearing/ Spindle failure on the axle of our camper. We were basically dead in the water and had to rent a hotel room. After calling 10 automotive and trailer repair places within 25 miles of Petoskey, B.B.T.B. was the only shop that would even entertain getting our trailer in for the repair. It was a Friday afternoon and we were leaving to return 7 hours home Sunday. So we were in a bad spot. I had already conceded having to leave the trailer and come back next week to pick it up the Trailer if not miraculously fixed Saturday.Needless to say I received a call Saturday morning that the trailer was repaired and we were able to head home Sunday.Thank you so much, saved our butts and me having to waste a day of 15 hours of driving to pick up the trailer on a later date.Great shop and really cool European cars being worked on, along with cool off road trucks and unusual rigs.Extremely friendly staff and when I asked about the shop around town they have a great reputation. Can't recommend Brakes by the bay enough. Thanks so muchJoe Klopp

Our family started using this shop 14 years ago when we moved to town. They have ALWAYS been helpful, honest, and gone above and beyond to get our vehicles running well. In the past few weeks they spent the extra time to go over my son's older truck looking for issues and helping us decide if it was worth repairing or needed to be replaced. With their help, we decided to get it repaired and feel confident sending him off to college in his beloved vehicle. I can't recommend this shop enough.Services: Transmission

Our daughter has a one owner 2004 BMW, 6 series convertible. At 50,000 miles she needed a new transmission. $8,000. later her car is drivable but the odometer is broken and not fixable according to BMW dealer.Brakes at the Bay will not discuss or return calls to resolve this serious problem. They have permanently damaged this car and refuse to take responsibility. Avoid this business.

Mike and crew did a fantastic job on my 77 MGB. They came recommended from a fellow MG owner I ran into in Petoskey and I couldn't be happier. They fixed my wobbly steering and leaking oil issues. The correct diagnosis was done, and they kept me informed along the way. When you find a good/honest car repair shop that puts the customer first you keep them as the first place to turn to in the future. My 77 'B has found its new home for any repair and work that may need to be done!Services: Steering & suspension repair

This is the second time we've utilized their service, it definitely won't be the last! Had our truck in and out and it's back to running as it should. I feel like the price was fair for the amount of work completed.
