My husband and I were browsing Harbor Springs after a business conference in Traverse City. We came upon a cute jewelry shop which had a really nice selection. I was contemplating buying a necklace or another piece as a souvenir from our travels. Unfortunately the manager / owner was very short and came off very cold towards me, perhaps I didn't look like someone who could afford anything from this shop? Lol. Welp! I'm breaking my long yelp silence with a review, due to the experience I had. I collect a lot of jewelry, and I like to know the names and information about the artists, especially since I often make it a point to collect multiple pieces and verify authenticity. When asked - she flatly said "Why do YOU want to know??" And just that "they're made in Italy". She refused to tell me the artist's name! Red flag since a lot of these could be replicas, how would I know for sure they are authentic? She then followed me around the store without even asking me anything, like if I'm here in vacation, what I like or if I collect jewelry or any suggestions at all for pieces that might be of interest. Frankly I think she thought I was planning to steal something and I was very offended so I left abruptly. With prices ranging from $30 to $300 to $800 for even a simple bead necklace, not giving an artist any credit is kind of sacrilegious. The 2 necklaces I was wearing are handmade from an artist I've met multiple times worth at least $$$$ and I own many of his pieces - but she clearly didn't want money "from the likes of someone who looked and dressed like me". Frankly everything was over priced and I've never been in a place that refused to give "THE ACTUAL ARTIST" any credit, or information so I can determine authenticity! When people ask me what I'm wearing I'm going to say "this is a handmade piece by this artist" not "oh I got it at a random store in Harbor Springs". But that's fine, treat customers like me, turn away enough business like mine, and have some ridiculous prices with no info on the artist just verbal guarantees of authenticity that "it's made it Italy and expensive" (eyeroll) and your store will meet the same fate as the rest and not be here in another year or 2.

Liked the shop a lot! First impression were awesome. I didn't buy anything but I didn't feel pressured to so I felt at ease. That being said there was definitely help on hand if I needed assistance! Her collections are gorgeous and hand made!

I met the artist/owner while in her shop this Fall. While the jewelry is reasonably attractive, I have never been treated as rudely by any shop owner and for no clear reason. She made several snippy, unfriendly remarks. A simple request - such as asking for small box or tissue to protect the jewelry I purchased -was met with a sarcastic remark that "of course" she didn't have any tissue paper. She was generally a very hard sell to another customer and extremely rude and disdainful of me - perhaps because my only purchase was a single pair of earrings. I would not do business with this woman or her shop again. The whole experience was very uncomfortable for my friends (who were also shopping) and for me. We are all women in our 60's and certainly polite and pleasant ourselves. We all walked out of the store shaking our heads.
