I hate to do this but after having poor experiences here multiple times I cannot recommend this vet. Earlier this year they gave me harmful - even potentially fatal - medical advice after my cat consumed a toxic plant. I decided to give them another chance thinking maybe it was an oversight from an unknowledgeable employee, so I went back to them when my cat was dealing with a bladder infection a few weeks ago. Horrible again. Their receptionist was unhelpful and rude, and the Dr. wouldn't take a few moments to just explain the diagnoses or medications prescribed to me. Instead, I was left to try to find information about my cat's prognosis from the front desk staff, who did not know and again, were rude. Given these repeated instances of subpar service, I do not recommend GP Animal Clinic.

Dr. Herzog is the epitome of kindness. Our “girls” have been under his care since we brought them home. In six years we have never had a bad experience!

Wonderful clinic, we just adopted our baby girl and can't wait to take her home. They take amazing care of the animals that they shelter there, the clinic itself is also very clean and the staff are very considerate!

Similar to the reviews below, the front desk staff struggle to read a calendar. Perhaps they should close down for a few weeks while trying to memorize days of the week before the incorrectly schedule any more appointments.

The facilities felt very dated. Handled my animal in a very unsatisfactory fashion.

Our mastiff, Bear, passed unexpectedly Monday May 22nd. It was after 6:00 pm. We were in shock and scrambling to find an open place to take him.Grosse Pointe Animal Clinic on Kercheval was open until 7:00 pm. We called and the person who answered said they were new but would try to help us. We asked about their end of life services and if we had time to bring him in. We were told we could bring him and that they offered group and single cremations. We primarily wanted a pawprint and were told that pawprints were only offered with solo cremations. We got there with Bear before 7 and filled out the cremation paperwork. Once again, we were told that pawprints were only available with the solo cremation. We paid for that option and were assured that the pawprint would be included. We discussed with the young woman at the front desk multiple times throughout the process that the pawprint was of most importance to us.GPAC called that Saturday to tell us that the ashes were ready but that the pawprint hadn’t been done. Apparently, it wasn’t on the paperwork or there was a mix-up. Either way, the opportunity was gone. We were very upset as this was the only reason we’d paid for the solo cremation. We paid $360 for the cremation and pawprint, and the group option was $90.00.Today (6/5) we went to pick up the ashes and to ask for a refund of the difference between the group and solo cremation. As we were talking to the receptionist, she started getting argumentative and defensive. She stated the person who helped us was new and didn’t know what she was doing. Today we were also told that pawprints are only $40.00 and that Bear’s cremation cost as much as it did because of his size. That wasn’t communicated the evening that we brought him in. The employee the day we brought Bear in, kept asking the vet for help with the paperwork. She did the best she could, but she was obviously not trained properly to handle end of life services, and the vet did not give her much guidance or assistance. The receptionist today only offered us a $40 refund for the pawprint we didn't receive, and then asked us why we didn’t take Bear to his regular vet clinic. When we told her they were closed the day he died, she said “oh, well we did you a favor then because you aren’t regular clients”.I’m sorry our dog died at an inconvenient time! If your policy isn’t to service non-clients, why weren’t we told that? Why would you have someone working ALONE who wasn’t fully trained on your services? We stated that we should only be responsible for the group cremation fee and should be refunded for the remainder, since we did nor received the service we most desired and were told could only be done with the single cremation. Today's receptionist's attitude the entire time was very dismissive and disdainful. We did not feel heard and do not feel like a positive resolution was reached. We are truly disappointed in the service and follow up from Grosse Pointe Animal Clinic. We feel like we were taken advantage of in our time of need and a difficult situation was made even worse. To then blame a new employee for lack of training and dismiss us just because we weren’t regular clients is unacceptable.

I’m giving a 3 because Dr. Herzog is absolutely phenomenal and I’ve trusted him with all 3 of my dogs as well as my sisters 2 cats. Hes the only vet i know for a fact will do the right thing. however, his front desk receptionists both have AWFUL attitudes, impressionably racist, and wastes your time. Not only have I had bad experiences but ive even been told an appointment time and shown up just to be told she forgot to write me in and gave the slot away already. Another time I sat for 45 minutes past my appt time with my dog just for her to take 2 people ahead of me who walked in after. dr herzog is the only person in that facility i trust whatsoever. He’s no longer accepting new clients so at this point if I were you I’d just look elsewhere. Not worth the headache.
