I booked a Bhagavad Gita session which held on 4/8/2023. I logged on the app to do something and it just reminded me to review this place.Paid 25 dollars and class started at 11:00. I (and several others) were at the door at 10:58. Door was locked. Messaged them about getting in, but I was essentially told I wasn’t there on time so I wouldn’t get a refund.I am certified yoga tutor from a well renowned Yoga University from India. I don’t know what yoga they learned or they are teaching but I question their methods based on how they handled this interaction. To each their own, but I felt the need to share my experience.

From the first class I took, I knew I found my yoga home. Extremely talented teachers and such a peaceful ambiance. Lots of wonderful events and workshops! There’s something here for everyone. Kula made me fall even more deeply in love with yoga. If you are yoga studio shopping, look no further. This is the place.

I enjoy the teachers and the variety of classes offered. It’s a pretty tight space and the classes often fill up. Their policy around cancellations is a bit unforgiving and for that reason I won’t continue to practice here.

Kula. Is. Awesome. I just got back from the Kula camping retreat, and it was truly a special experience. The best part was the warm and fun atmosphere. Everyone was so friendly and kind from the moment I arrived. Kula truly lives up to its name (Kula means Community). Megan and the other teachers do such intentional and effective work to create a healthy culture where it’s easy to feel welcome. Our Friday night goat yoga outing was a wonderful experience of connecting with nature and finding a lightheartedness in our practice. (And I appreciate how respectful this event was regarding our goat friends’ well being.) The subtle body workshop with Danea was amazing, and the morning meditation sessions were such a great way to start the day. I left this retreat with new insights about myself, more knowledge about the yoga tradition, and a few new yoga friends. Highly recommend getting to one of these yearly retreats!About practicing in the studio: I started practicing here a year ago. Kula is special in so many ways, but here are a few things to love about it:1. You will actually have space to move and get into the poses. I understand why some studios are tempted to cram as many students as possible into a room, but that is not a comfortable way to practice. Kula limits class size and uses mat markers to make sure you won’t kick someone in the face when you go into three-legged dog.2. The teachers are all so kind, fun, and knowledgeable. And they make an effort to honor the roots of yoga.3. There are many different kinds of classes, which helps to develop a more balanced practice and learn about different types of yoga. Classes are also offered at a wide range of times, so it’s easy to find something that will work for your schedule.4. In the summer, you can go to class either indoors or outdoors. Satya Sound classes are a special experience.5. There are now two locations! And while there isn’t a designated Kula parking lot, there is tons of free parking near both locations.

From the moment I stepped inside the door at Kula, I knew I was home. Megan, Danae, and their team are some of the most genuine and kind people I know. Not only do I benefit greatly from yin yoga, restorative yoga, and Yoga Nidra, but I also am enriched by joy of learning new things about myself. The atmosphere and space at Kula is absolutely magical! Add in sound bath healings, Aroma-restore and AromaYin and you have a recipe for a whole new you. Perhaps the greatest compliment I can offer is this. My husband of 30 years agreed to go with me to a restorative yoga class one time. I fully expected him to never go again, however I was thrilled to be wrong. He’s as addicted as I am and it is now our Sunday night date each week. Additionally, my son and his partner love attending whenever their schedules allow. Thank you, Kula team, for changing my life for the better and opening your beautiful space to us each week! You are pure magic!

My wife and I have been going for a few weeks now, and it's been a great experience for us! The instructors are patient and welcoming, the studio spaces are a comfortable size, and the practice feels authentic. We were drawn to Kula's philosophy as well as the team's commitment to inclusiveness, high-minded values, and honoring the origins of the practice. Highly recommend Kula for anyone, whether you've been practicing for some time or looking to try it for the first time.

I purchased 2 months at Kula & had been taking drop in classes here and there! I really liked Kula at first (hence the second star) The classes that is. However, there are certain things that bothered my integrity in such a way I had to leave the studio and sent a questioning e-mail: Now, I want to preface this with an understanding of yoga practice. I understand the rules - no phones, mat markers, etc. but I was unaware of this initially as I'd never been to a yoga studio. It was one of my first classes and I tend to want to be in the corner (nerves) and by the windows. The mat marker in that corner is too close to the wall so that you cannot do all of the poses, so my mat was placed slightly to the right of the placement marker. There was no one next to me for 3 spaces and one of the instructors unkindly called me out on the speaker and said "and Katie, use the mat marker properly" I felt so embarrassed and did not want to continue the class ): I saw this happen to another women! She was new and in the same spot I had been. However, she asked the instructor "are the empty spots next to me going to be filled then?" The instructor replied with no and said those are the rules. This was the same instructor!!! and I do not want to talk negatively about the studio as a whole, just my personal situation. I also noticed the studio withdrawing money from my account when it was not warranted, and refusing to respond to my multiple e-mails. I contacted them on instagram and got directed to more unanswered e-mails. I hope to find a yoga studio filled with yoga lovers who can provide mutual respect.

This was my first class at Kula Yoga. The studio was warm + well decorated. $14 for a drop in + $2 for mat rental. The building is cramped and requires some shimmying around others. Studio itself is spacious. Unfortunately, my class left much to be desired, never truly been a fan of the 45 minute class (however I signed up knowing this). Class felt formulaic, rigid and almost scripted. There was not on emphasis on moving in a way that supports each individuals body and it was more of a one size fits all approach, that didn't work for me. Bummer!

I knew from my first class that this was my new Yoga home. I had planned to try out all various studios around Grand Rapids but I don't need to do that anymore. The first class I took was Satya Sound Yoga, which was so cool and unique. The studio is beautiful, inside and outside in the driveway and garden. All the teachers have been wonderful and knowledgeable. I love it here!

My sister, Mary G, and I attended the Kula Yoga Retreat just this past weekend. An absolutely amazing experience!!! First, the setting… private, peaceful, pastoral. Sun, shade, nature. A pond & a creek. Rescue farm ducks. A walk through meadows with goats. A nighttime sound bath. Several different types of yoga classes were offered. Nourishing & delicious meals & snacks. Movie night with decadent candy. Bonfire chats. A riverside picnic with brews. Goat yoga. Chill campmates to share the experience with. Meditation. Every detail thoughtfully arranged by Megan & Danea. We returned refreshed, renewed, repurposed. The retreat far exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend this studio & any events they offer. 6 stars out of 5

Kula Yoga is hands down the absolute best place in Grand Rapids (maybe anywhere) to take a yoga class. Megan Rader and all of the teachers at Kula are warm, welcoming, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. They give very clear and specific directions in class, and the studio offers a variety of classes to meet every yogis' needs.Their studio policies are clear and the environment is super cute and inviting. They worked through the pandemic, getting creative, offering their students an online platform and safe place to practice. It's also the most affordable place in town to take a yoga class without compromising instruction or environment.
