Mortgage lending made easy. This is the second home we have used Independent Bank to finance (we came back after a positive first experience), and once again, Steve and Brandi made the process as easy as possible. Both were (shockingly) quick to respond to our questions whenever we had them. We got frank advice on issues and it always felt like they were looking out for best interests, not just what was best for the bank. We had a tight time frame to close, and Steve and Brandi made it happen after it seemed like it was going to fall through because of a last minute problem with the appraisal. All of this was on top of purchasing a home several hours away in the U.P. If you want a hands on team that will solve problems if they arise, you can't go wrong with this team from Independent Bank.

I have had a mortgage with Independent Bank for a long time starting in 1998 when my husband and I bought a home. Then, after he passed away I refinanced at a great rate. The process was seamless. Over the life of the mortgage, there were literally no issues with this bank. Again, I refinanced with my fiancé in 2019 in order to remodel my home and consolidate debt. Again, this bank made the whole process easy. Constant contact. Consistent communication. Easy hand off from one staff to another through the mortgage process. Bernie Marvin and his amazing mortgage team are the real thing. A bank that cares about doing a good job for their customers, doing what’s best and providing solid financing. Thank you, Bernie for making this process so easy.

This company is awful. I was dealing with them throughout a divorce settlement and refinance of a house. After multiple contacts with them (Wendy Watson) regarding a tax that was charged to me (when exempt), the comment back from her was “ she's not my client why would I help herâ€. Wendy Watson ignored the many state of Michigan documents I forwarded to prove my exemption and continued the process as though she never heard from me. The disclosure statement from the refinancing also states I was to receive a specific amount of money but Wendy withheld the tax without disclosing the amount withheld. The worst company ever! Wendy Watson in particular was not helpful and actually unfamiliar with the law. I would never recommend them.

Conveniently located in the area between the Knapp area and the Plainfield/Northland merge. Easy access to building on the North side. My wife was very pleased with the attention and interaction she received from the staff...especially the bank manager. Good community bank.
