I reserved a room for 2 nights coming from out of town for a wedding. I reserved right on the hotel’s website. The hotel called and told me I needed to give an updated credit card within a time limit to keep the reservation. I accidentally gave the wrong expiration date for my card so I called, they updated the card on file and gave me an updated confirmation number. Fast forward to the day I check in, got there right at check in time and the front desk claims my reservation had been cancelled. I said no it wasn’t, here’s my confirmation. I have the the name of the person that fixed it, the updated confirmation number and everything. They refused to accept it, told me they were fully booked and there was nothing they could do. So what more is a customer supposed to do here? I did exactly what I was supposed to do yet I’m the one put out because they are incompetent? There was zero remorse from the front desk too. Guess you can’t even rely on a confirmation number or confirmation from an employee these days. Horrible customer service. Left me searching for a hotel on Labor Day weekend, far from home and 1-hour before I was supposed to be at a wedding rehearsal.

Avoid, or at the very least ask for a different room if your assigned room has the slightest smell of funk. My husband stayed there just over two weeks ago. The room smelled musty be he didn't want to complain. He's now been charged more than what he paid for the room, and is still having trouble getting a charge taken off of his credit card because the housekeeper claims to have smelled smoke in the bathroom. He is not a smoker and it was a solo business trip for which he was in the room to sleep, basically. The staff were great while there, but less than helpful since he checked out. It has been crickets or the run-around. Worse, the charge for "damages" is more than what he paid for the room to begin with.
Noteworthy details: The rooms are nothing to write home about to begin with. Make sure you do a good check and ask for a different room if there is any sign that something is off. Don't be the nice guy and say nithing. They'll charge you afterward, with not an ounce of proof of what they claim, and you have no way to defend yourself.

Rooms facing the road are noisy. If you are sensitive, I recommend you ask for a room facing the quiet side when checking in. Breakfast is not an open buffet, you have to choose from a list, there is a fixed list. Considering that there are places that are open buffets but do not have useful content, I can say that the application here is better.

Together with the family (3 people) passing through for 1 night. Super welcome, super room, super comfortable beds, super cleanliness, super location, really 4 steps from the centre.
Breakfast: reception by the employee Michael is equal to 0: empathy 0: kindness 0.
Welcoming with a smile would have been a step forward instead of finding a visibly annoyed person even though there were only 2 people in the room.
An attitude more like a bouncer than a waiter

1st, the staff was great, helpful & friendly!
All the negatives seem to be directly connected to IHG, as far as I can tell.
*Terrible lighting. Horrible. God forbid your eyes are over 40 & you need to put makeup on...
*No safe. How is that even a thing anymore? ?
*Broken blinds, so no way to block early morning sunlight for us late-night vampire types.
*No ventilation in the bathroom. Isn't that, like, a standard building requirement???
*Cheap improvements designed to look bougie, but fail miserably.
No more IHG Hotels for us.

Great hotel very close to many restaurants and downtown there are many things to do. When I made the reservation I failed to read that the hotel was pet friendly and I have severe allergies to pets. Travis the assistant manager is amazing and very kind he made sure my stay was great. The rooms are very clean and I had no allergy issues. I highly recommend the Holiday Inn Grand Rapids downtown!

Superb hotel, and looks very new. Extremely clean, better than many other Holiday Inns, conveniently located from the DeVoss Place, where I attended a conference. Within walking distance from several restaurants. I had breakfast at the HI restaurant and it was really nice. Only negative is that highway traffic is loud.
Rooms: Spacious, well kept, huge TV, good bedding, and nice furniture. Great coffee, fridge and microwave. Fridge does not have a freezer, in case that's what you want.
Safety: Area seems very safe, despite a few homeless people nearby.
Walkability: Walking distance to restaurants and conference center.
Noteworthy details: Impressive statement on blackbird conservation in nesting areas adjacent to the hotel. Very environmentally conscious.

This is our go to spot for when we have a concert at either Van Andel or GLC Live at 20 Monroe. The rooms are decent and every worker that we encountered was great. It's about a 7 minute walk to the venue's and that is generally why we choose this hotel for our accommodations. It's a bummer that this hotel doesn't include breakfast unless you pay for it, but that's not the end of the world. One thing to keep in mind is that with it being very close to the freeway, it definitely can get loud at night. It's not a big deal when you're only staying one night, but if I was to stay longer than a night I would choose another hotel.

Good location. Rooms are pretty standard stuff. Need a key card to operate the elevators.
