They are pricey, but these guys know their stuff and have the most optimized, easy customer interface I have ever had with an auto mechanic.
I've taken two of my vehicles to them, and in each case they've identified the sources of problems which I have been experiencing with my vehicle, but which no one else has identified so far, and they provide a detailed list of the problems with reference pictures and priority on which issues are more urgent/important as opposed to which ones can stand to wait a while to be addressed.
And they explain it in such detail that I often don't even have questions, but they always answer the questions in a satisfying manner. As someone who is not particularly adept at auto mechanics, this is a huge boon.

Returning customer here! My Jeep had some new issues pop up and I took it to Ervine's for repairs. They worked with my schedule so they could get me a loaner. Constant communication and updates in regards to my Jeep. Thank you Steve and Megan!

I was looking for a reliable, trustworthy, fairly priced mechanic in GR. This was the 3rd place I tried and I’m so happy I found them! I’ve used them twice now and have nothing but good things to say. Friendly, professional staff, they are tech forward and send photos of what’s wrong with your car. They have an excellent response time and best of all, they give you a free rental car. I can’t recommend this place enough!

My daughter's Prius had the check engine light on. It was also blowing thick, white smoke--a Prius shouldn't be blowing anything. On 7/22, someone in the dealer service department said I would probably be OK to drive it in, but the soonest appt. was 7/31. This was the best they could do for a long-time customer using their service center for 3 Prius vehicles??? In a panic, I took the car to AutoZone and they advised I find a hybrid specialist. That is when I found Ervine's.
I set up my appt. online for early in the day on 7/23. Megan called me for detailed information and told me that I really should have the vehicle towed. She also made sure I understood the charge for an inspection and estimate--both cost and end product. I was also apprised of the requirements and rules for using one of their loaners. I went ahead and called for the tow, approved the inspection and estimate, and drove away.
When my list was available, I received both an email and a phone call, and everything was explained fully and my repairs were prioritized for me. There were also many pictures. I was able to approve or decline everything easily online, and they gave me a couple of days to secure the funding. I was notified by text every step of the way, and questions that I had were quickly addressed.
I told Megan that we were going on a weekend trip, and when Steve called to say my car was finished, he said he knew we were on the road and wouldn't be in that day but he just wanted to let us know.
I picked up my car today, and everything was fully explained. I was given some tips to prolong the life of not only this car but my other 2 as well, our last questions were answered, and Steve prioritized the services/repairs I declined this time.
If it weren't for the proof I have--the emails, text messages, and my little red car running well--I would have thought service like this was just a dream! I will definitely be back!

Best and most detailed service I’ve ever received from any auto repair location! Steve was wonderful and accommodating and made sure I got an appointment to come in next-day when I called, even remembered the details of our phone conversation when I saw him! Eric spent a great deal of time going over all the details of what they looked at on my car, and even explained what everything meant as he went along! As someone who isn’t very car-savvy, I felt well taken care of and respected as a customer by everyone who was there! I’d recommend Ervine’s to anyone I know in the Grand Rapids area!

Normally car repairs get me very anxious, and the circumstances in which I came upon Ervine's were quite dire. A strange bad noise so significant we can feel it vibrating through the steering wheel, but we can't see anything wrong. The sort of noise that sounds... expensive. And dangerous. Like "feeling cute, might throw a wheel on 131" dangerous. (Turned out it was something in the axle)
Well it took a few weeks to get it all taken care of, but that included fully exploring the bizarre issue (it was a really weird one), researching the parts, (harder than it seemed, my car was one of those "they changed everything 2 months later" unicorns where getting the right piece can be tough), waiting for shipping, and performing the fix, all on the backdrop of the July 4 holiday. But this was the least expensive and least stressful car fix of the four I have had this year. That's saying a lot!
The people are so friendly, and so comforting, and so informative. Everyone we spoke to was just lovely. I'm a nervous girl who doesn't know cars and cold calling a new place kinda scares me. But it is a female run establishment, and when I called to explain "my car sounds weird and scary" at 900 words per minute all in one breath, the woman on the other line totally got it, and the vibe I felt from the place immediately made me feel better even before the car was there. Then, they kept us informed the whole time with texts and calls, so I always knew what was going on. It is always nerve wracking to be playing Mystery Diagnosis with your only vehicle when you can't just buy another, so the updates were really important.
They took really good care of us and our car, and the biggest thing that made this whole thing not stress me out as much? Free. Loaner. No interruption to our work schedules, no panic about not having a car, no $50/day rental rate ticking on and on... None of the other places did that, not even the dealership. Some of the places before, renting a vehicle cost me as much as the repair!
Our Santa Fe is getting up there in years, and there are more fixes yet to be done. But after this last experience, I know who I'll be going to for them!

From the service to the detailed report online to the actual work done on my car; everything about Ervine’s is fantastic. Steve does an amazing job breaking down what’s going on and gives you his honest opinion. I will never go to a mechanic other than Ervine’s. 10/10

Brought my car here for a road trip inspection early in the week, had shaking in the steering at highway speeds, something I knew about before dropping it off and they were aware of it. After the inspection I received a list of things that should be done, such as fluids, filters, light bulbs, basic things. As far as the shaking goes, the only thing they found on the front end was a worn ball joint boot that they said was not a big deal. They said i just needed new tires. So I picked my car up and went to get new tires. Brand new tires installed and balanced and still having the same problem. Brought it to multiple different shops, couple of them said the wheels might be bent so I took it to discount tire to get balanced and inspected and they said the wheels are not bent enough to warrant the shaking I was experiencing at highway speeds. Took it to another shop and they said it could be a seized caliper so they inspected it and it was not that. Took the car back to Ervines to have them go on a test drive, not only is the shaking still there but it is worse. This was Friday mid afternoon and we were leaving Saturday morning for our trip so basically was told it was too late to have it looked at and possibly repaired. I can see why people like this shop, the ability to get an appointment with a loaner car in todays world is rare unless you book a month in advance. But honestly what is the point if you pick your car up and go on your trip and the problem isnt fixed. They are a lot pricier than other shops, charging double for fluid changes and things like that. Overall the people were nice, quite passive like most people in this profession but that’s what you get these days. All about the money and less about making things right for their customers. Probably wouldn’t return based on the prices alone, pretty outrageous for what you get but just my two cents.

First timer with Ervines, but I can definitely say this is going to my go to shop. I haven't had customer service like this is so long.
Not only was Megan, patient and understanding, She was very kind & helpful. Steve was on point with communication, & professionalism and being super understanding, and helpful. Thank you both so much.

Efficient, fair and reasonable. Went over quote line by line with recommendations and why they were made. Easy to select which recommendations to go with online.
Steve communicated with me every step of the way and was able to answer all questions.
Provided a free loaner vehicle while in the shop. I will bring my vehicle back and recommend anyone take their vehicle in when it needs service.
