Cozy, locally owned bookstore abounding with staff favorites to help the wandering traveler find interesting reads, should they look for such guidance

Visited this as part of a west side bookstore tour. I wanted to like this store so much and it just didn't meet my expectations. The store was cute but the book selection is really small and there is a lot of wasted space.

This is such a cool place! A proudly progressive, consciously curated, and fiercely independent bookstore. Kind staff, unique offerings, I will definitely be back!

I was disappointed when I went into the store. The name of the place doesn't suggest it's a special interest bookstore but it is. It's a small store that focuses on politically progressive titles. If that's attractive then by all means add two stars to my rating. But for the standard book lover hoping to find diverse treasures this is not the place for you

Great bookshop. Wide open design with lots of new books. Plenty of a selection for kids and adults and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Recommend spending your time here!

A great bookstore in Grand Rapids. Hospitable atmosphere and a wide array of diverse books. Stop in the next time you’re in the area and ask them to order a copy of Sky, the Deaf Home Run Hero!

Really nice vibe. A few books caught my eye, but decided on this one to travel home with me. Was happy to cross paths with this shop. Thank you!!

Our absolute favorite local book store. They stay on top of new releases very well and don't shy away from social issues and social justice! When I needed a book they didn't have, they ordered it for me and it arrived in just 2 days. Super nice people. Our favorite store on cherry street

Favorite bookstore in town, hands down. Jenny, the owner, is wonderful as is her staff. The book selection is always on point and very well rounded. It’s a great stop for anyone who loves a good book or who may be looking for a gift. Plus, it’s a safe space for all readers.

I absolutely love this bookstore. They have a wonderful collection of books, they support teachers, are diverse and inclusive, and work extremely hard to build our community. I am beyond lucky to have this shop in my neighborhood!

Not only is the space welcoming for all, the continual commitment to social justice is a huge draw for us to keep coming back. Great people, great books and everything a bookstore should be.

Best bookstore in the state IMO! Staff is absolutely lovely, selection is inspiring and well curated. Being a customer and book club member during my time in GR was so special and I miss it all the time since moving. Books & Mortar cares about people, the city, and the environment and it shows in what they promote and the community building they inspire. This place is a huge pick me up on a bad day, and an inspiring and safe space when things feel tough. Good work is being done here, it’s so much more than a bookstore.

Why business owners feel the need to share their politics with a class trip is beyond me. I do not care you have a book club for school age children to find their gender identity or that your store is pro choice. Keep politics out of commerce. We will order from Amazon in the future or go to Schulers.

Best local book store in GR. Have never had a problem getting a book.
