September 2023 by Tim Ross
I gave Blackies $475 in September of 2022. Understanding the policy of not being able to reclaim your $75 deposit. With that said I was told that for $400 they could order a part from China. Which I gave with no issue but after several months I called to check the status of my TV and was told " they part has been disconnected and we will refund your money for the part". We'll it'sSeptember 2023 and I have been completely been treated like trash. Over the last two calls speaking with the owner Blackie himself. He says I'll talk to my book keeper and then hangs up on me. Like I've offended him of something. I would take my business to a more friendly and honest repair company. Maybe the local News organizations would like to see how this place does business.

Highly rude over the phone for just a simple question. Don't give business to a company that won't answer a question about the business they do

Lol So dropped off a turn table in December. 35 dollar non refundable deposit. I called in February. Just like everyone else they said they're waiting on a part. Here we are June. Gonna go get my record player and take it to Corner Records. This place is a scam. This place is a joke. How they are are in business is crazy. Go in and see for yourself. Lol. Unreal.

My first experience with Blackie's was as a kid 55 years ago. It was magical. My most recent experience was a testament to how America has gone from being a maker of durable, innovative things worthy of repair, to a graveyard of cheap goods, manufactured in China, that are difficult or impossible to get parts for, repaired by a dying breed of technicians, whose business is trapped between the remnants of a once thriving enterprise and the landfill/grave.

Just had 2 gentlemen come out to do a warranty repair on my TV. Were very nice and answered my questions in detail and then some. Would recommend off of my experience.

08/13/2021 I dropped off my Pioneer RT-909 Reel to Reel the only problem was it would not Play. I had checked on it three times over the years, And Mr Blackie's would say He only have one person that works on that Audio equipment. The last person had a heart attack and doesn't work anymore. On 02/18/2023 I went to pick up my Pioneer RT-909, I brought it home, When I got it home I notice the pinch rollers were missing, Looking closer the bottom feet was missing too. Having the Reel to Reel checked out on 02/20/2023 (8) total Items are missing from my unit.

DO NOT GO HERE!!! If you’re looking for a scam artist go right ahead and go to Blackies business. He took advantage of my grandma multiple times knowing she had dementia and didn’t need to get her TVs fixed since they weren’t actually broken. He called her multiple times trying to “fix” her TVs and charged her over $200 dollars for a statement saying nothing is wrong with her TV. Had to threaten to get the police involved for him to stop trying to scamming and taking advantage of her.

They have repaired a Marantz Stereo amp that had a dead channel and a vintage Pioneer SA5200 on which both channels failed. We also had them check out a Mackies speaker amp for us. They actually do good work and they are a dying breed in this age of throw away electronics. The older gentleman has memories struggles. You will want to deal with the younger light haired man. He's probably the son.The secret to dealing with Blackies is in person. If you call, you will get the older guy and he will become very confused. If you drop something off. Go back after a week with your slip and ask to speak to the younger guy. He knows what he's about. There are lots of unnecessary negatives reviews about this business.Time is money. If they diagnose something for you and cannot find the problem, they will still charge you because it took them time to run diagnostics. I don't begrudge them that. If you get your check engine light light checked on your vehicle you will pay for them to plug it in and tell you what you might already now. Time is money for business'sI will continue to use Blackies because they can fix electronics whereas others will tell you to replace. My 50 year old Pioneer SA 5200 is a testimony to their work!

Let me begin by saying, i like Blackie and he has a huge heart and a good spirit. He has also fixed many things for me in a timely fashion. But when it comes to trusting him with repairs on high-end audio equipment, I just cant risk it anymore. Blackie is overwhelmed and his shop shows it. He "fixed" a tube amp for me twice, once it took 2 1/2 months and charge me $300 and the next time, i didn't get my amp back until i filed a claim in small claims court. It took 2 1/2 years to get my amp back. I picked it up today and it hasnt been touched. Thats $450 i spent to give my amp to someone else for almost three years. Came back with dents in it and with old tubes that replaced my expensive NOS ones. These are just things though. As i said, i Like Blackie and love his stories. HIs shop is in total disarray, today he had a young man helping him (Thank God), and with excuses from "waiting on parts," to "covid", to "an old Vietnam vet does those repairs" it is time for you to retire Black. Step away before what sanity you have left is as jumbled as your shop. Many in your community love you, but it is simply time. Ill forgive the losses, you find better ways to take care yourself and occupy your time. Please do not bring this tired old sweet man anymore work he can pretend to do. Blackie, you can pay me the $450 when we get to that great sound room in the sky.

Blackie's scoured the world (literally from Czechoslovakia to China) during COVID (which shipping was delayed for weeks and weeks) to find a key spare part that was broken in the CD player of all three of my 30 year old boomboxes. It took two years to find and source the obscure part, starting from scratch and not knowing if it even existed. They knew how to track it down. And they stuck with it for two years. That's commitment. In most places, these boomboxes would have ended up in a city landfill. I have a lot of respect and trust for them.

I could leave a review that spans almost two years worth of phone calls and excuses but I’ve wasted enough time on them.Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.

My friend Pete Dropped off a vintage NAD amp referbished sells for over 2000. After 3 months of excuses and said they were oob. Covid. He was telling different excuses. Calling me forgetting that he already called with another excuse! I stopped in there and chatted with him within that time during which time he bragged about how much he was selling his vintage amps for like $3,000.I popped in unannounced he had it on the counter with a paper on it quickly removed the paper. Tried to say it wasn't mine. He finally looked up my receipt and serial After glaring at him insisting it was he finally handed it over. I believe he was in the process of selling it! Never fixed it I explained to him that I had the same problem with my other NAD that I had and it cost me $40 to get it fixed he said it would cost 400. SCAM ARTIST!!!

Gave him a 6 speaker surround sound set and he said it would take 3 weeks to get it checked out and took a deposit from me. After a YEAR of coming in and calling he still didn't remember me and never once called within a week like he said he would. WORST customer service I have ever experienced.

Find a different place! I never leave reviews on businesses but felt compelled after my experience. First, these guys are unprofessional and rush you off the phone and in person. I dropped my tv off for them to look at and asked them if they needed the power supply and they said no. They told me they would look at it that day or the next morning and give me a call. Two days go by and I never received a call. I call them and they said they needed the power supply but never called to tell me that. Who knows how long it would have sat there if I didn’t call. I bring the power supply back and they said it would be that day or the next for them to look at and they would give me a call. Another two days go by and they don’t call. I call them and they said they didn’t get a chance to look at it so it sat over the weekend. I call back on Monday and they say something about parts taking a long time to arrive but would call me back that day to give me a definitive answer on what’s going on with the tv. Well, you guessed it, they never called! I called back the next day and they say it was just a firmware issue. I get the tv back to my house and it’s still not working!! They had my tv for a week, I paid around $150 for them to do absolutely nothing. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else!!!
