I have taken four classes with Julie Sanford, Fabrication 1, 2, and 3, Intensives, and Camp PMC 101. My husband and I took two classes, Lapidary and Stone Drilling with another instructor, and we are both looking forward to an August class, Solder Stamped Copper.I live in Mishawaka, IN, and had been going into Chicago before Covid. I was looking for classes outside of going to Chicago that meet my needs and interests. Grand Haven is one of our go to weekend destinations and I was happy to find a shared studio and instructor(s) of this caliber here. My husband I both learned metalsmithing, Roberto in high school, and me in college. And, he had also learned lapidary. Refreshers and PMC instruction are what we were looking for and this studio was perfect for us.Whether you are looking for something for personal use or a gift, a newbie to metalsmithing, exploring, or an experienced jewelry artisan, this studio and gallery will meet your needs. It has something for everyone.

We had the greatest time making our wedding bands! We melted down some family jewelry to make our bands. Julie was incredibly knowledgeable, fun, creative, flexible, and encouraging throughout the whole process. It was one of our favorite parts preparing for our wedding, and now we have unique rings that we will treasure forever. We would highly recommend Julie and Studio JSD.

Julie is a wonderful artist and really a teacher at heart. Her approach to instruction is both comprehensive and positive. Bending a piece that was being filed was met with "we can fix that..." rather than a belittling look or comment. Deviations from the lesson were met with positive comments about "being creative". Very positive experience. Her shop is very well equipped as well as kept clean and tidy.

Went here today for the gem show they had going on! Heard about it through a friend! Walked around and enjoyed looking at all the goodies collected from her trip to Arizona. There were very decently priced gems and some kinda expensive. Plenty of people around to help with prices and items that were in the glass cases. The lady who helped me the most was so kind and very helpful. I definitely am interested in the classes held here and took a schedule for myself. Will hopefully be returning soon. :)
