Our Kansas City Kat "KC" is living his best life now because of the Michigan State University Veterinary Medical Center! The staff gave him excellent care and kept us abreast of his progress during his stay in their ICU. Thank you for not only saving his life but for improving the overall quality of his life.

I’ve been here two times now for the care of my medium sized dog. The first trip for a wound care issue was very pleasant. However, the second trip during the night was by far the most disgraceful professionalism. Not to mention the personal treatment only 4 days later was just distasteful. They had told me they would ship meds to my house because they couldn’t fill a big script. My dog ran out of those meds in 4 days and they gave me the run around on the whole process to get a refill, along with no proper explanation on how they would arrive to my house. First they said dogwood, then they stated wedgewood. Not to mention that the vet doc said she shouldn’t have technically given me these meds to begin with since it’s a controlled substance. I would say, go to this place during the day instead of at night. Night doctors seem to not care for the families that are trying to do what’s best for their furry loved one.

The staff at U of M could not have been any better...they were very informative on what they were doing and why. Would recommend them 100%. Very grateful for the care my cat received there

I cannot say enough about my experience with the MSU veterinary clinic! We brought our cat in critical condition after she was poorly cared for at another facility, and the late night team literally ran to meet her needs. Even though we lost her that night, everyone stayed incredibly communicative throughout the process and there was never a second where I doubted that they were doing everything they possibly could. If/when another emergency situation happens with a pet, I will be heading straight to MSU.

Had a great visit at oncology then I called to speak to them and the lady who answered the phone on 1/23/24 at 4pm will not message oncology regarding my cats chemo that another vet ordered yet she is going to surgery at MSU or at least was. She said we cant talk about it as if she had any idea of the conversation at my first visit, very rude not helpful at all. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED

MSUs ED saved my little boy Jake’s life. I am so grateful to them and the business department, who worked with me on the bill so I could get my dog the medical care that he needed after he got attacked by a pitbull who almost killed him. So thank you so much MSU! I love you!❤️

Advertises rat care on their website, but when I called ahead to say I wanted to bring in my rats, they said they don’t actually see rats and that the website was wrong

The absolute best vet in the state. We took our cat to 2 emergency vets and his regular vet before MSU and we should have just gone straight there. They took the best care I've ever seen in a medical field and saved our cat's life.

I’d like to preface this review by saying that I understand the nuance of this situation, and that it’s not entirely this clinic’s fault. I understand that 1. It is an ER, so wait times will always be longer. 2. There is a need for immediate compensation before treatment. ( I don’t agree with this, but whatever.) 3. Medical professionals need to stay detached from the situation. 4. Rules can’t be bent for that One Person. 5. I know the doctor said that they “couldn’t know for sure what her condition truly was without x-rays”, so they didn’t explicitly claim my kitty would die of her ailment.Having said that, I am EXTREMELY disgusted with my experience here. I brought my sick kitten in after she began to have trouble breathing from what was possibly pneumonia. After several hours of her being in the exam room, we were quoted around 800-1k for X-rays and potential bloodwork, which we couldn’t pay. Ironically enough, even if we could pay they said they were at capacity and wouldn’t be able to treat her ANYWAYS. Not only that, but they charged me slightly over $200 just to tell me that my cat was having trouble breathing… Yeah. I’m pretty sure that’s why I brought her there. I understand that as a pet owner I need to be financially responsible for my pet, but the timing was extremely bad as I had just paid several bills this week. I tried explaining that I couldn’t pay, and they refused to treat my cat.I tried shopping around to see if anywhere else would potentially take a payment plan and treat her upfront, but I couldn’t find anyone. At this point, they said my baby was struggling to breathe even on oxygen and while it was never explicitly stated, it was clear they thought she was going to die. Seeing as I couldn’t find anyone who could show a sliver of empathy and treat my cat, I tried discussing other options and it became clear that putting her down was most likely the only viable option. They had told me that antibiotics might help, but they wouldn’t prescribe them unless they “knew for sure” when it was EXTREMELY obvious she had pneumonia. Found out later in the day after she’d been euthanized that there’s a vet north of here who would’ve treated her without worrying about money upfront. Lovely, my cat died for NO REASON.All the time I spent here was a complete waste, if I had known they wouldn’t treat her I would’ve tried my best to help her myself, although that probably wouldn’t have gone far. Ultimately I had to have her put down, and it was extremely traumatizing for me and my girlfriend. We had JUST adopted this kitten a week and a half ago and already loved her so so much, seeing her die was NOT how we expected our morning to go.I understand all the nuance of this situation, but what I’m really upset about is the fact that they refuse to treat animals without payment. The doctor tried making the argument that “at human ERs, people can get treated upfront because they have insurance, etc.”, which is an extremely laughable comment considering you can get emergency healthcare regardless of being insured or not. I don’t understand why the standards for an animal are different. I would’ve been willing to put down a deposit and work out a plan, but they just “don’t do that”. So great, now my precious baby is DEAD because of bad timing.I am absolutely disgusted, and I feel the doctor working with us had little to no empathy for us in this situation. I understand this is likely a daily occurrence for them, and they also can’t change the rules. However, I feel extremely upset over all of this and nothing can make it better because my cat is dead.

I made a mistake not coming here sooner. After another surgeon at a different vet by me completely botched my cats femur repair, I was on a mission to find a vet knowledgeable enough and who actually seemed like they cared enough to give me an honest consult about whether my cats leg was even repairable after it re-fractured from the failed ex fix repair. I stumbled across Dr Loic Dejardin and this man will forever have my praise. Never in my life have I come across a vet who has expressed so much passion for what they do. I could tell he not only genuinely cared about a positive outcome for my kitty, but was truly invested in making sure that she would keep her leg. And He was a wildly fascinating conversationalist to boot. Not only did he explain his interlocking nail technique in a way that helped me understand why it was the best solution, but he even connected me with another client who was more than happy to sing his praises about her baby’s success story. The staff greeting me as soon as I walked in were so welcoming. The nurses, interns, and residents also all had the most incredible bedside manner. Everyone truly seemed so happy to be there. Us includedI wish I had known to come here as my cats first stop, or even second top, and avoided the months of failed surgeries and prolonged recovery, but I am so grateful that I found a place I’d be comfortable taking my pets to in the future. Completely worth the long drive. 10/10 would recommend

Dr. Chung and his team were beyond helpful in keeping us updated on Indy (greyhound). Given her age, breed, and the location of the break (shoulder blade), Dr. Chung and the team shared what the treatment plan was. Even from check in, the team at MSU was extremely helpful and informative. Olivia did a great job reviewing the discharge paperwork with us and sharing Indy's updates throughout her stay. Dr. Chung continues to provide excellent support as we continue with Indy's recovery. We continuously tell people to go to MSU for all their vet needs. We drive 50 minutes because we know our pets are taken care of by the best. This is our second bout driving out of our way to get our pets to MSU and again, we highly recommend it and are beyond grateful for the care they’ve given our babies.
