Honestly I would never come back here. All of the staff were amazing but the doctor. My puppy had been throwing up the past few days and it got worse so we took him here since our regular vet was out. He had ate something a few days prior that could have upset his stomach but for it to still be this severe it didn’t seem right. He had symptoms that could be multiple things but one of those things were parvo. They never ran a test for it. They gave him some anti nausea meds and send us on our way and said if he were to keep throwing up to come back. I gave him a pill in the parking lot and it came right back up. They said to go home and break it up and mix it with some water and then give it to him. It stayed down less than 10 minutes. He continued to throw up so I called back and they said to come back in for a xray. We went back and they took one and said he had a foreign body. (Still no parvo test at this point) and sent us to the vca in Kalamazoo. When i arrived there the doctor took her time with us and within 10 minutes told us it is parvo and there was no foreign body. I overall felt very neglected and did not receive proper treatment from the doctor at Dowagiac animal hospital.

We live nearby and have gone frequently throughout the years. However, after TWO AWFUL experiences here with lack of care & consideration for our pets, we will not be returning. First negative experience was when they released our 8 year old cat out in the back & he was scared running all over the back corridors with the technicians screaming to catch him (he was shaking afterwards). He then received kennel cough after the visit (he is an indoor cat). Second negative experience was with a new kitten we rescued out of the highway. After waiting over two hours in our car with my four year old son & 30 minutes inside to see the vet for only two minutes (he was rushing to get out of the office now & called our kitten feral). He did not perform the entire exam on her either & did not provide her with the necessary shots. We later found out she had worms (threw them up) & we have two adult cats at home (we explained to him). The vet said she was feral; there was nothing he could do & wished us luck... We took her elsewhere and received the proper care for her.

If you care about your pet don't take them here. Nurses are friendly and knowledgeable but the vet spends only 5 minutes to treat and ignored my dogs serious hip problems. Found out from another vet in edwardsburg she has degenerative hip disease could've have know for almost two years. Worst vet only cares about turnover.

I held off on writing this for years now. Just too painful. But...
Before Dr Wilson took over, Dr Butts was the best vet ever. Dr Wilson, not so much. So my dog had a hot spot on her front leg that had grown into a mass. Had to be surgically removed. Ok, but after surgery when I went to pick her up, He said to me look at this. She would sit ok, but trying to walk her front paw was kinda limp. And the Dr. acted like he never saw that before. Even saying "isn't that odd." Then before I was to walk her to the car, in the rain, on a bandaged foot, I said how am I going to keep this dry? (This is a BIG dog, not one I can just carry.) He actually told me to "put a bread bag on it." A bread bag? SERIOUSLY? My grandmother saved bread bags before the invention of ziplocks. I sure don't and how would that help me get her home? Needless to say the bandage was soaked and torn off by the time we made it to the house. She started bleeding badly and had to be brought back. THIS bandage and bleeding afterwards repeated multiple times. I finally constructed a boot out of window plastic I could put on when taking her out but this thing with her foot being numb and him not knowing why prompted me to find another vet. One by Decator, she pinched the dogs toe and got NO reaction. Said there is nerve damage probably from surgery which may or may not heal on it's own. Showed ME how to rebandage my own dog so I didn't have to keep taking her back in. But the foot did not improve. Finally I found a third vet, hartford, SHE said cold lazor therapy can help. THREE treatments later and her foot use was restored. WHY Dr Wilson A. didn't even KNOW what nerve damage was let alone there could be a treatment for it, even if he doesn't have the tool he could tell me to find a vet who does, I would have been fine with that. Clearly he does NOT know what he's doing.
Later, dogs don't live forever. Her day came when it was just better to put her down. A dreaded task I have had to have done many times now. I always stay with my pet through it and so far it's always been a simple thing. Shot, gone. NOT with her.
First he makes us sit in the waiting room until EVERYONE else was taken care of first. They he takes us to a back room, proceeds to prepare for the shot, but this incompetent vet COULD NOT FIND HER VEIN! Shot after shot, miss after miss. This was the most horrendous experience of my life watching her be jabbed repeatedly and WHERE was that drug going if not in her bloodstream. It took him over a HALF HOUR to kill my dog.
And that was the last time I will EVER go there.

I normally go here as a walk in cause it's easy to get into, but they really don't seem to actually check my dog out. They just glance at him and tell me yep well get the antibiotics for him. Not a long wait time for walk ins either. Just wish they actually showed they care about my dogs health especially when I'm paying hundreds of dollars!

If I could give this place negative stars I would. I’ve been a pet owner for 15 years and never had an experience like this.
We came in because our dog had a rapidly growing mass on her shoulder. The vet came in, felt it, and said “it’s cancer you need to see a specialist” and walked out without much more info and zero testing. The most heartless and jarring experience I’ve ever had at a vet. The receptionist tried to be more helpful and compassionate but the damage was already done.
We got a second opinion where they spent more than 30 seconds with us and actually drained the mass and deemed it’s probably an infection.
How this clinic has any returning patients with a doctor who has zero bedside manner is a mystery to me.
I will say at least they didn’t charge us for the service we didn’t receive.

I knew of this Animal hospital because my Mom used them with her 3 cats for decades. I traveled here 500 miles with my dog who suddenly stopped eating & losing weight. A call to my vet suggested I go somewhere asap & have blood work & meds which I am came here & they did. Was prescribed 3 meds & they sent labs to my vet & I dispensed meds & THANKFULLY I have my dog back when I thought Id lose her! Returning home the labs will be repeated & further treatment discussed. I'm ever grateful to this clinic & my visit because my dog is still alive & doing MUCH better!

There are walk in hours, the staff are friendly and the vet is knowledgeable, and kind. The office is clean and welcoming. I have been taking my cats here for several years and have nothing but good things to report. What's more the costs are reasonable compared to Chicago where I lived for many years.

We have 8 animals in our household and they all go here. I have a rottweiler who was a rescue and has fear aggression with strangers. Doc is AMAZING with him! Does not charge me an arm and a leg for things we don't need. LOVE Dowagiac Animal Hospital

Last Thursday I took my 7 year old golden retriever during the walk in hours because I haven't established a vet since moving here and will never step foot in there again. My dog started breathing a little odd a week ago last Sunday, so I monitored him and decided to take him to this vet. He was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection, Dr White said his lungs were clear and gave my antibiotics and an antihistamine. Saturday night he could barely breathe. I rushed him to the emergency vet in Kalamazoo and he was in critical condition with 75% of his lungs affected and oxygen level under 60. They put him in an oxygen box and his oxygen didn't improve. He was diagnosed with fungi pneumonia. Sunday, he declined more and we were going to send him to an emergency care facility in Grand Rapids with an internist. They advised us that in his condition his chance of recovery is less than 10% possibly 6 months of treatment costing anywhere from 8-10k and upwards to 20-40k with a low survival rate. Dr White spent roughly 5 minutes with us, never recommended chest X-rays or blood work which may have given him a fighting chance. We lost him without this vet even giving him a chance. How could his lungs be clear on Thursday and by Saturday completing destroyed by this disease...
