Read reviews before deciding. The front desk workers are extremely unfriendly. The one didn’t even acknowledge us multiple times during our stay. The rooms are small and as other reviews said, the beds are smaller than advertised. They’re giving us the bare minimum. Everything seemed really cheap. The restaurant and bar were closed which was one reason we were going there. But I truly cannot get over how unfriendly the front desk was. I won’t recommend. It was quiet though. Maybe other people read the reviews first and stayed away.

DO NOT book at this hotel. ALL of the negative reviews that you see are absolutely true. My husband and I decided to give this boutique hotel a try despite all of the negative reviews we read. We wanted to experience this hotel for ourselves and form our own opinion. Upon arrival we were met in the lobby by a couple receiving a refund due to a huge cockroach in their room. We then expressed concern and requested a refund for our stay due to unsanitary conditions. The woman at the front desk was extremely rude and not helpful. She even tried to make it seem as if she was threatened by me after I asked her “if you and your family was in this position what would you do”. Overall we had a terrible experience and will never book with them again. Book at your own risk.

Rooms: Too small, concrete floors, shower... I can't even explain how inconvenient this was.

Feels like you're sleeping in a friend's unfinished basement. Front desk was no help (even when there was a party down the hall at 3am).No restaurant - will not stay here again.Rooms: plain - cheap - unfinished (yet expensive - zero value for the dollar)

The worst experience I have ever had. I do not recommend this hotel. Was given verbal confirmation that my cancellation would be fully refunded due to a death in my family only to find out it was later rejected. The hotel management made an already incredible stressful situation much more difficult, and during the holidays no less. They were not communicative (despite the fact that they had owed me money and showed no sign of offering that up until I held them to their own policy), not compassionate nor understanding whatsoever. Incredibly disappointed by the awful service and handling of my situation by the hotel manager.

This photo is a perfect representation of this hotel: It's not what's advertised. It promotes itself as a hustle and bustle, lively, hip place -- there was no one staying there (literally), no hotel bar, no active lounge, and in the middle of basically nowhere. The room had terrible outlets, and the hotel wifi is an unsecure connection. The internet was so bad, that I could barely connect to my remote work call. Very inconvenient. The cafe area looks cute, but not as promising as it seems -- we rung the bell, and the hotel counter staff ran over to apprehensively make out coffees. We asked for a latte, which seen in the uploaded photo, is most certainly not a latte (it was un-drinkable because it was disgusting). We also got muffins, which she unsurely went to grab, then got different muffins out of the fridge and said "Just want to give you fresh ones". I asked if the ones on display weren't fresh, and she assured me they also were...they in fact, were not. This hotel has potential, but what we experienced was super disappointing, and not at all how it promotes itself. It's like we've been hotel Catfished.

DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU EXPECT ANYTHING THEY ADVERTISED.I had a very different experience then the one marketed to me. I booked this hotel room last week for my partner’s birthday thinking it was perfect based on the advertising, but upon arrival there were a lot of things I wasn’t aware of or accurately informed about. The front desk was nice and welcoming butOne my check in time was told to be at 4pm but I found out that arrival is 3pm when I got there. Then I had to agree to a 150$ hold which is excessive for a already extremely expensive room and wasn’t told to me before hand as well as paying for parking 10$ a day which I was told would be waived for my partners birthday which I thought was nice. I was confused when I was told my room was “140” because we were supposed to have a “balcony” when it’s literally just a seating space by our room not a balcony but either way I was still going with it. I asked immediately about the fire place so we can hang outside for my partners birthday since it was 60 degrees out and celebrate, I was told that the staff would light it around 6/7 pm est. We get in the room and I’m having to clean off surfaces because they aren’t clean, there’s no smart tv to connect any of our media or apps and the Wi-Fi isn’t secure it’s just free wifi with no passcode. There’s zero amenities no coffee maker, no water or snacks NO NOTHING. We call for extra towels for the hot tub and a extra comforter. 3 hours later I got hungry still no towels or comforter so I tried to call room service multiple times no one answered so we went to get food outside and when we came back I go to the front desk to ask for the towels comforter and for someone to light the fire place like promised I was told that he would ask the manager to light it and he showed me the towels to grab myself and told me someone will bring the comforter we asked for. we drove to the parking lot with my towels in hand and had to walk around since our key card doesn’t open the yard door. We waited all night no1 litt the fire pit so we couldn’t really enjoy outside or celebrate his birthday the way we planned to. Then the morning comes and I’m trying to have breakfast in bed like advertised even in my room guide and no answer I call the front desk to find out they don’t have a restaurant and haven’t done room service “since Covid” yet not one person or staff is wearing a mask so how is that? Also why advertise that if we have to leave our rooms and get our own breakfast towels and clean our room before we even get to enjoy it. Mind you it’s just restaurants and fast food in the area once you drive 5 min out. I was hoping to have a very specific experience based on how this hotel was advertised and what I paid but I got something extremely different. Hell we even had maggots/ spiders in our room as well as marks of dirt all around the room on the bed cover, chipped and marked up furniture that was there in that tiny room. I don’t think that room was cleaned in weeks I was coughing and sneezing like crazy as well as feeling itchy. There’s aspects I loved about this hotel but the lack of service and any of the things I’m promised. I’m extremely upset to say the least. I still days later don’t have my deposits back and I wanted to reach out first to give an opportunity to make this right because everyone deserves a second chance but no one got back to me and compared to the niceties I experienced at other hotels in the Detroit area for lower prices THIS IS A MASSIVE EXPENSIVE EXPERIENCE DONT!Rooms: The rooms are small dirty with old furniture and bad installmentsNearby activities: NoneSafety: There were strung out folks all around in this desolate area or just looming outside.Walkability: There’s nothing to walk to unless u count this one Burger King up the blockFood & drinks: No food or drinks have to drive at least 5 -8 minutes out to get anything u can’t walk anywhereNoteworthy details: Not anything like advertised

I had a really nice day I think because there was hardly anyone there maybe only five or six other guest. It was very quiet and peaceful stay in the city.Oh Hotel Excel definitely could work on some cold weather at amenities I’m not sure I saw a bar or a social area. If there was one it was my offer to be however the front desk is extremely nice. Everything was good. The rooms are sparse. It’s a concrete floor, micro hotel size however, the decorations are beautiful really bespoke and thoughtful

I booked a night here and tested positive for Covid and was not able to stay. I missed the cancellation window by one hour because I was at the doctor and they were unwilling to work with me at all. I’m in the area often for work and recommend staying somewhere with a stronger customer service mindset. I emailed as they suggested to talk to a manager and never got a response. So I eventually called and the manager on duty wasn’t helpful and was a bit rude.

Service and front desk were friendly and helpful HOWEVER my room was absolutely disgusting. There were shaven hairs on the bathroom counter, stains inside the toilet, and just a dirty floor all around. Bar was closed. Definitely overpriced for the location and quality of room service. I would never stay here again or recommend to anyone.

I have traveled a lot and stayed at many different types of hotels and this place had to be one of the worst ones I’ve ever stayed at. There is no pool, the rooms are very basic. You would think for the price they charge that you were staying in an upscale hotel but this is not that. The walls are paper thin we were woken up many times by the noise of people coming in and out of the parking lot overnight or early in the morning and could not get a goodnight’s rest. We had a 4 hour drive ahead of us so we really needed our sleep. Save your money and book your stay somewhere else if you find yourself in Detroit.
