Had my son use dollar for some training we sent him to, after waiting for 45 mins and having to jump through hoops to rent the car, the agent who was quite abrasive insisted on charging him $645 for insurance he did not need… we will never use them for business again. DEF buyer be ware if your driver is not a seasoned renter! It’s sad this is how companies have to make money by taking advantage of people.

A great rental service! No hustle at the drop off and clear instructions. Very organized lines at the drop off (I rented the car at IN and dropped it at DTW).And even greater is the courtesy by the Airport Transport Shuttle Service lady, Janice. She was a very kind person and spoke nicely. On noticing my throw, she came up to me and talked about chess since my throw had chess pieces printed on. It felt nice talking to her.I didn’t know where to post a review about her service. But I hope the related personnel notices this, can you please convey the same to Janice? I took the rental car shuttle service on 18-Nov-23.

Understand it's the day before Thanksgiving but the rental desk was not busy. We were told to wait for someone to bring a car around (giving the driver a description of us to come find us). We waited several minutes while a few cars pulled up but no workers indicated the car was ours. We went back to ask if any of the cars were ours and if we should take one and were told "we don't know how to help you." Finally, after pressing for an answer (unless they just want us to steal a random car?) were told to just take one that had been sitting there for several minutes. Loaded the car seat and several bags. Got to the Exit gate and were told our car was unrentable as it was already rented to someone else and that we needed to return it. This exact thing evidently happened to the family in front of us too.

I have had good experiences here in the past, but this time was horrible. They didn't have any cars ready, so had to wait for a car after already waiting an hour between a bus wait and in line at the counter. The only nice employee was the desk employee. The car was damaged and had 44k miles on it and stunk inside.

6 people from my company flew into metro Detroit for a conference. All of us flying in at different times but on the same day and 4 of is utilized Dollar Rental. Out of the 4 of us 2 of us were minority. I rented a base model Equinox and opted for their auto insurance. I was advised the insurance was $200. I was in Michigan for 4 days. When I returned the car I was charged a whopping $800 on top for the rental car charge. They charged me $200 PER DAY!!! Only me and my other minority coworker were charged 200 per day while other people were charged a flat 200. I've contacted corporate all they did was give me a case number and refused to issue any refund.

Go to another car rental! I was offered the refuel option - specifically asked whether it was a flat charge or a per gallon charge - was told it was only for fuel used. Returned the RAV4 with only a quarter tank used and was charged over $53 (gas rate quote was $3.69/gal). Vehicle was unsafe as it clearly had not had the wiper blades replaced in decades - no problem until you are driving and it’s raining. Dealer proceeded to charge me $40+ for some concession recovery fee which I can only assume was for the coffee cup I left in an otherwise immaculate car. Why was the coffee cup left? Because their hustling you to move your car into the lines and then they don’t want to interact with you to answer questions - just clear you out asap. No one will respond to email reviews where they literally ask you if you want someone to call you and good luck finding an actual person to talk to after the fact.

I see from other reviewers, that Dollar has an ongoing scam regarding fuel. I travel and typically fill the gas tank before returning. The desk agent talked me into using there refill option as it was at $3.29 a gallon (at or below current prices). I returned the car with the tank 3/4 full and got charged $52 for what would have been $12–15 of fuel. Thankfully there are other options for rental cars. I will never use Dollar/Thrifty again.

If I could give zero stars I would. This has been the most frustrating car renting experience I have ever had and would not recommend Dollar or this location at all. I'll detail:Pre-paid for a rental and then waited in a long line to pick it up. Lady at the counter was friendly but moving frantically. Asked if I wanted extra insurance and I declined (I get this through my CC so no need for it here). Was told to sign the pad quickly and due to the card I used to prepay for it not being on hand, I had to provide a new card. I thought it was for a hold or just needing an actual card with my name on it. Instead, I was simply being charged extra for the insurance and roadside assistance. I've noticed through here that there are a long line of people who have experienced similar when declining insurance. I was very clear that I didn't want insurance, and with the history shown in reviews, I have to think this is an intentional defrauding tactic. After my trip, I called Dollar after realizing I was charged extra. No less than 5 customer service phone calls later, they refuse to refund the additional $180 they charged me. The phone calls have actually been comical.- First call, rep said they'd refund the charge- Got a bill and called back, that rep said they had no record of that and that there is nothing they can do, I'm responsible for it- Filed a claim with my CC- Called back to Dollar after still getting a bill, they said they can escalate it now- Called back several weeks later after receiving another bill, was told this Detroit location specifically denied the escalation (kind of crazy the location does this since I have never talked to anyone at this location to explain)- Tried to get a number to talk to someone at this location directly, was given a number that simply routed to the central customer service line and then given another number that was to a dead cell phoneNot just saying this, but I've tried to be friendly and patient as I know its not the customer service reps fault, but it's amazing this level of service and how every time I call I get a different sort of response. I also rarely post negative reviews like this, but feel like I have no choice to how I've been treated.

ATTN Military Travelers: do not use dollar rental. I was told my receipt would be sent to my email, and it was not (I gave them my personal email). When I tried to contact customer service, I was redirected to their website. There you will find out you have to wait seven days for a receipt and it is physically impossible to get a hold of a human being to talk to. I also attempted to complain through their website, and that link also does not work Good luck submitting your vouchers in time. Absolute unnecessary headache. Additionally, the car was terrible.

Car itself was fine. Additional fees were tacked on and then I was given the runaround (i.e. the person at pick-up said they would come off at return, then at return I was told they would have had to have been removed at pick-up, etc.). I think they take advantage of the fact that people are typically in a hurry at airports to slip things in and figure they won't have time to question things. I'll never rent from Dollar or related brands (Hertz or Thrifty) again.

This was a pre-paid rental with a total project cost of $346.02.At the counter when I picked it up, I was assured that there would be no additional charges. When I dropped the car off (full tank of gas) I asked and was assured there would be no additional charges. A few hours later I got a receipt for an additional $250.83 that was charged to my card for a variety of scammy fees, (e.g., "Concession Fee Recovery" for $50.96). When I called to ask about it I was told by the agent that nothing could be done because the account was closed.Charging an *additional* $72% on top of the agreed upon rental price after promising that there would be nothing extra is just fraudulent.

Oh my gosh… where do I begin. 2 hr wait in line as they only had 1 employeeWorking. I had paid in advance and was supposed to be charged 110$ when picking up. They charged my card wait for it 742$ I’d say that’s a bit more than the agreed upon amount.

Great service, quick check out after a long day and still had a two hour drive. But the car smelled of weed and couldn't change cause they didn't have any cars available so that really sucked

This is a very ghetto car rental experience. They add on prices without explanation. When I returned to talk to the manager regarding the charges the next day. This lady who had on a Detroit rhinestone hat called the manager and she walked away saying she had to take a call. The lady never asked me to step over but then proceeded to call the next person in line. The young lady next to her asked me to move to the employ counter ( how am I standing at your counter and you can’t ask me to step over). The same lady was yelling over the counter at all the customers telling them “don’t come up here with your stuff not ready cause we not gone be good”. Terrible experience I will it be using them again

Extremely long wait time to pick up the car at this dollar location. When we arrived at the line was over an hour and literally people were standing outside of the building. There were two employees serving more than 40 customers already in line. We ended up getting an Uber and leaving the location with our luggage and were forced to come back a few hours later after the wait time died down to a more reasonable 20 minutes.
