I did the LPN to RN Bridge Spring 22. Then Med Surg along with Pharmacology and Mental Health. Needless to say, I didn’t do well overall. My issue with GOCC was not with it’s academics, it was how I was treated. I experienced some good instructors, while at the same time at the start of the fall 2022 semester experienced being openly harassed (name calling, belittling related to (disability) being the slowest person in the class, \\u0026 being treated differently than my Caucasian Peers) by an instructor in certain circumstances. After making a formal complaint it was chalked up to being “unprofessional behavior.” The instructor never apologized for the behavior, which lets me know she had no problem with her actions and I can only assume this behavior was condoned by her peers that were present, watched, and said nothing. Also, after the complaint was filed I did follow up with the Asst. VP who would check on me to see how I was doing. He made comments about his faith which were comforting to me, but hindsight is 20/20. Faith / morals shouldn’t fly out the window when being confronted with a subordinate’s behavior. When you do something wrong, address the issue and beg the person’s pardon. Stand in that person’s shoes and empathize. At no time did I get from Instructor that her behavior was unacceptable and she was sorry. I have never had an experience like this in a college and would Not have expected it from of all people nurses. GOCC is small and not as diverse as a lot colleges closer to larger cities, but that’s no excuse to have to experience micro aggressive behaviors / biases that can appear discriminatory to the person it’s projected on. I did file a complaint with the department of education (discrimination; racial, disability, and age) and waiting out the process. Honestly, I’m at peace and I have no regrets speaking out about my experience. No matter what happens I know that my speaking out will help someone else. I did meet some awesome classmates and despite particular instructor’s abhorrent behavior, GOCC has some great, caring instructors. Lastly, There definitely needs to be more representation for students of color so if someone were to have a similar experience, there are resources to help or guide them. I’m realizing there is a discrimination Cordinator there and never was I referred to this person after voicing my concerns.

First rate nursing program. My wife took classes here for her CNA certification and scored an unheard-of 100 percent on the state exam. I coach baseball here and the athletes here are real quality individuals.

Love this disc golf course! Just have to watch for the lava rock on trails after hole 10. Great variety for all disc levels.

The college is run by bunch of people who care more about how modern the place looks, not how well we learn. Spend too much money on new building and modifying existing buildings, but do not invest in qualified professors. This college treats foreign professors like dirt. I am taking two classes from foreign professors with high credentials and they are knowledgeable and very helpful. But these professors are put into terrible working conditions by over working and under paying. They work pretty much full time, but few minutes from their work schedule is cut to make them part time and save money for the college. In order to cover that time, fresh BS graduates with no teaching experience was hired, of course, without a formal interview. Is it even legal to hire unqualified people, even without an interview? Is this how a publicly funded college function? This place needs to realize that that our learning condition is our professors working condition.

Glen Oaks is a great community college! Coming from a small town they have a lot to offer at the lowest prices around. They offer a lot of scholarship opportunities as well! The health professors are simply the best. They help you in every way they can to help you understand the concept. I definitely recommend Glen Oaks to everyone.

Good place for students, but a terrible place for part time faculty. It is not worth to work here as part-time contingent faculty

Their Nursing program sucks my daughter went and was less than 1 point for passing her last test to be able to take her nursing nclex test and they would not let her pass or retake it.. too bad thats how you get the reputation you are getting. i graduated from glen oaks also.. so i encouraged my daughter to go there with many regrets.. have also heard from about 10 other students that were in the nursing program that did not get treated fairly.. Because the nursing director had a problem with them.. shame shame on you... my daugher spent about 40000 dollars with nothing to show for it from glen oaks that kinda leaves a bad taste for many.. no help from you...thanks no thanks.

I was there from 1972-1974. I was 32 years old. I was struggling with life in general but I had a tenacious heart.

it is a small school with a large heart. I loved my experience there. I was a medical assisting student in my 40's. the professors were great. the class sizes were small. I worked in the nursing office, the BEST work study position.
