I just called to politely inquire about the obituary Ryan Funeral Home posted about a family member. The director asked me who I was, and I told him I was the deceased’s step daughter. He then called me the deceased’s “EX-step daughter.” My parents recently divorced, but the deceased raised me since I was 18 (over 21 years). I am not responsible for their divorce and have carried on a close relationship with my father since the divorce less than a year ago. I told the director that his comment was extremely hurtful in a very calm, extremely polite manner, even calling him “Sir” when addressing him. It was a terrible insult lodged at me for no reason and out of nowhere. As I was speaking, he hung up on me. I am shocked that a funeral home would not be kinder to the bereaved, let alone would attack someone this way. I have no idea what could have provoked this. My family member died in a tragic, sudden manner and I am reeling. I don’t understand this at all. Cruel, cruel, cruel.
