Went to the Townsend for afternoon tea. Wow, have they fallen from grace. Did not receive the all items listed on the menu. Horrific seating. Absolutely miserable service. Had to beg to get a cup of tea. And this was $70 per person! What you see in the photo is for two people. Had we received everything on the menu and had the luxurious experience I’ve had many times in the past, I would not be complaining. We were seated in the hotel lobby right next to the hostess stand for the restaurant. The entire time we were there, there were people standing thisclose to us waiting for tables. Breathing on our food, bumping into our table, spilling tea. They did not leave the pot of tea at our table, yet didn’t provide attention to refilling our cups. We finally demanded the tea pot be left at the table in spite of our server’s insistence it was not allowed (never heard of this so called ridiculous rule before). The food was clearly not fesh. We did complain and they refunded half our expenses, but I am so disappointed with the Townsend. The photo was taken before we touched or ate anything. This is not five star service. It’s not even one star service. Embarrassing for the Townsend.

Stayed for several days last week. Have stayed several times in the past.
Best location, simple elegance, friendly staff.
Julia and Kelvin were extremely professional when I checked out.
Walkability: The best for walking to eat or shop in town.

I just stayed at the Townsend last night, and it was incredible. The staff was so accomodating to me and was so frendly the entire time of my conference. I can not say enough favorable things about this hotel and its staff.

I’ve stayed at The Townsend Hotel many times, even though I live just a couple of blocks away. Whether hosting out-of-town guests or dealing with home renovations, The Townsend is always my choice for its exceptional, personalized service, elegant decor, and comfortable rooms.
A significant reason for my loyalty is Kelvin Mcleain, the Front Office Manager. Kelvin consistently goes above and beyond to ensure my stays are flawless, anticipating my needs and ensuring my comfort from check-in to check-out. He is warm with a professionalism and meticulous attention to detail.
Kelvin exemplifies hospitality excellence, and I’m grateful for the effort he puts into making each of my stays so enjoyable.
The Townsend feels like a home away from home.

Started off strong, Kevin brought up the bags and the front desk at the time was wonderful. Minutes later a worker came into the room to see if we needed anything and called for us about Ice. I believe Brook had answered at the front desk… no ice was sent to the room. Moments later I requested a room change since the AC unit outside our window was humming all night long …
Front desk was able to accommodate last minute change to a different room, which was much more spacious and quieter, greatly appreciated!

Housekeeping is very sketchy. Stole $250 from my room. Manager Ruth would not even hear me out and acted rude and sent me away. Called multiple times after to upper management telling me they could not help me. I have stayed at this hotel many times (10+), but will never come back again. Management told me housekeeping never entered the room.... so who put the room linens and towels back in order if I was gone?

The service here is like nothing I've ever experienced. I host a lot of events around the metro Detroit area, and things go okay, and there is a lot I usually do on my own. Not here. From the moment I signed the agreement to the very end of my event, it was 5 star service. We wanted for nothing. If you have a business event, conference, or wedding coming up, this is the place to do it.

I have never experienced such terrible service in my entire life. Not only was the staff rude to my entire family; but the rooms also smelled of marijuana. When this was brought up to the front desk, the comment was simply brushed off. After coming late to check out, instead of charging to the room, the front desk had the staff throw 7 peoples clothing in trash bags. This includes, my 3 young daughters undergarment. Do yourself a favor and do not come to this hotel.

My family and I have stayed at many hotels and have never been treated as we were at the Townsend. It was disappointing how we were treated. We had a wedding event the day we were supposed to check out and asked several people at the front desk to do a late check out by a few hours. The manager as we were headed to the event said they were unable to do late check out and if we were not checked out they would have to charge us, to which we approved. Instead we came back to the hotel in disbelief being told by the manager instead of charging us he put our belongings in plastic trash bags. We had three rooms and all of our clothes, gowns, makeup, undergarments, purses were thrown in trash bags. Without permission they went through our rooms and the safe with personal belongings. We are still missing belongings and many of our items were damaged. I felt violated by the manager and disrespected. Would not recommend.

Went a restaurant in the Townsend. Did not stay there. However, it is lovely inside. All staff is very welcoming, from the valet, the doorman, hostess, wait staff. Everyone who passed our table said hello. Thougherly enjoyed the experience. They make you feel special.
