“My partner attended the University of Michigan for undergrad all the way through her PhD (roughly 10 years). When I met her in 2018, she introduced me to the wonderful place that is By The Pound (we affectionately refer to it as BTP), and it was always a treat to visit. We always stocked up on their candy (which, by the way, is of the highest quality and with EXTREMELY fair prices), coffee, almost any flour you can think of, and any odd spice that you may need. If you only need a tablespoon of something for a recipe that isn't in your cupboard, you don't have to go to Meijer and buy a whole bottle of something you'll rarely ever use! The employees are all very friendly as well. Whenever you need assistance, they go above and beyond to help. Since, we moved to Athens, GA, and BTP is at the top of the list (right next to Sparrow Meat Market) of stores we miss. We often talk about tossing our graduate degrees and just opening up a bulk foods shop here in town. We miss having this resource at our fingertips. The past 2 years, we return to the Michigan area during the winter holidays and always make sure to stop at BTP. Their treats make great stocking stuffers, and I ALWAYS have to stock up on those dark chocolate coconut clusters (I just finished the last one -- hence writing this review -- and I'm sad I can't find anything like them on the internet or here in town). Anyways, highly, HIGHLY recommend By The Pound.”
“I go here probably once a week and I've never been disappointed. The goods carried in the store are top notch and the staff has always been very kind and helpful!”
“Yes I got the most tasty gluten free pancake mix. Easy to make and only needs water.Try the Birch Paleo pancake mix.Look for the "two cave men" on the package.”
“Pretty great Middle Eastern market without going all the way to Dearborn. They have meats, nuts, camel's milk, and an olive bar.All the goods are super clean and dust free. Shelves were all faced off nicely.Guy at the counter was very friendly, sorry I didn't get his name.If you remember the dyed pistachio nuts from when you were a kid, they actually have them in bulk!Highly recommend.”

2340 Dexter Ave, Ann Arbor“Great prices without having to pay a membership fee. Doesn't have the variety & volume larger stores, like Kroger, Meijer, & Costco. But decent variety.”
“Great, and I mean GREAT, fish and butcher counters. And the product mix is amazingly deep for neighborhood market. Lingonberries? Got 'em. Enchilada sauce? Yep. And the owner, couldn't be a nicer guy. I love supporting this market as they support the neighborhood.....and are right next to the Farmer's Market. Love Sparrow Market!”
“Conveniently located.Great wine selection.Limited bread selection. No prime beef that I've seen.Deli items run low near closing.Often difficult to make a left-turn exit on to northbound W Stadium. Might need to turn right or take the rear exit.”
“I love this place!! The owner is a wonderful soul. He has made so many suggestions concerning foods that I was unfamiliar with and everyone has been outstanding. I am a repeat customer because of the owners kindness and the outstanding food selection.”

375 N Maple Rd, Ann Arbor“Great for fruit tarts and other bakery treats! It’s a bit pricey; however, the quality is excellent and so is the taste! The pizzas are delicious too ! The wine selection is primo ! The young man knew exactly where to look when I asked him: Do you sell chilled Prosecco!?”
“It’s the best African store he is every nice and the customer service is really great and when you exit they have the Nokia phone soundDefinitely worth it and definitely go to this place”
“Great selection of foods and drinks at reasonable prices. So much selection that the isles are a bit narrow, But what a great problem to have!! Can't wait to stop by again.”
“Owners are very friendly and helpful. I'm grateful I don't have to travel far to get my favorite foods, drinks, candy, etc. I absolutely love this place.”
“This place is the bomb! Perhaps Ann Arbor's best kept secret. It is a small, authentic market. Food is high quality and prices are very reasonable, especially when compared to a Whole Food's or Plumb Market. Their prepared foods are delicious, really delicious, and come in handy for mid-week meals. Shopping here is a treat. It is my new go-to place.”
“lots of good choices to choose from! wish mi goreng or samyang carbonara was there! the lip products i bought were a bit overpriced so i spent 30 dollars more (they were $10 each) than I expected during my trip..edit: carbonara is there now yipeeee. i really love going here only downfall is the prices but ye that's what you get with imported goods i guess (i might just be cheap LOL)”
“Their produce are definitely way better than the grocery-chains. You can also find those rare fruits and veggies that you can't find in regular stores. Their prices are very good as well. I'd rather shop here because they're more delicious and I also would rather support local businesses. Thank you ZZ's!”
“My Happiest Place. 'Staples' like paper products are less costly and Kitchen Prepared food, grains, seems all healthy... especially when Staff Made Mine..Thank you soPeter McMullen”
8AM - 10PM
3601 Plymouth Rd, Ann Arbor“Good selection for customers with dietary restrictions (dairy free, gluten free, keto, etc). Prices are a little higher than my hometown grocery store but that could be a regional thing. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Plus they are never out of stock of what I need.”
“Great Asian grocery store! Lots of delicious Japanese products are available which I appreciate. I've been going to Tsai for years and will always be a loyal customer!!”
“Still 5 stars! I posted that 11 months ago, and it still stands. Friendly, helpful, very pleasant folks here. Easy in and out, it doesn't get better than that! Thank you!”
“Me and my grandma go to here at the shop together and I enjoy our time together very much and I just you know this this bushes you know it's not my go to store I don't go here unless it's me and my grandma shopping together but they have lots of different things that you know other other stores like Kroger do not have and you know it's fun to go to places like that especially when you're going with someone like a family member like your grandma or anyone really. But anyways my point is is a grocery store that you know it feels a step above most grocery stores you know there's some obviously fancier grocery stores and bushes as well but you know bush is a little fancier than your average grocery store and in certain departments they have lots and lots of things that other places don't have and other departments they have just about the average amount of things and maybe a little less sometimes but just depending on certain things but for the most part it's a great place to shop.”
“This store is awesome. It’s been around over 100 years from what I’ve heard. Love to shop here and show my support. I hope S. P. will keep on going for another 100 more years. They have good service and a lot of beverage options. Keep up the legacy Sergeant Peppers General.”
“This store is on my route. I'm in here 3-4 times a week. Great selection of everything.
I'd say the main highlight of this place is THE PIZZA!

The place is very clean. Super fast and friendly service
Did I mention THE PIZZA?! YUM YUM YUMMY”
“Everyone here is always so friendly! Always find unique varieties of foods! I love shopping here when my budget allows as things are a little pricier but the quality is also much better!”

2641 Plymouth Rd, Ann Arbor“Every person that has helped me, in the Pharmacy, has been very respectful. No one has ever been rude. I went to Kroger Pharmacy in Ohio and was treated with the same respect and care. I have only used Kroger Pharmacy and have never been disappointed!!”
“Dollar General of Ann Arbor is back to normal operating hours 8am -8pm. We would love to see our favorite customers shop with us. *Currently the phone doesn't not work, we are in the process of getting it fixed*”
8AM - 10PM
231 S State St, Ann Arbor“As someone who lived and worked in downtown A2 for a long time I think it's fantastic Target opened up downtown. Yes - it's smaller than most Targets. But it carries a lot of food and household essentials and the staff was really nice and helpful. This would have been a lifesaver for me when I was going to college.”
“the prices can be a little higher, but look what you get,a clean store, large and beauty outside as well inside. i made a pickup of items i ordered online from amazon. the youg lady was unbelievable so genuinely so nice n concerned that i could get the many bages in my large backpack, worn on my back. my bike was outside of store.anyhow this is a wonderful place..please keep it up ,the good work! ..... a year later its may 2024.. i love whole foods, its a great looking store in and out. the amazon lockers i love the most, the kiosk. one machine with an attached pad you can key in your numbers from your pc or phone and it opens the locker door to obtain your orders! and you can also return your amazon packages with the other kiosk's next to the other one! keep it up whole foods. looking good:)”
“My only gripe is the parking but it's not enough to dock a star. The staff is always SO nice and you can't beat the quality and prices. Even tho it's out of the way, I try to make a stop to stock up on TJ essentials every few weeks. Highly recommend the frozen section, wines, and the triple ginger snap cookies!”
