2024 UPDATE: I wanted to share that I've been a client working with CCAH for at least a few years now, and their level of care and dedication continues to be top tier and somehow improving upon that greatness! They are a super far drive for me, as I've moved in the last year, but I continue to visit them because I value their expertise and practice so much! They've expanded in many ways, offering a variety of new services like 24/7 phone staffing. I feel so confident in the care they provide to my fur babies. Every single person I interact with is a gem, and I appreciate them all! I've had such a pleasure getting to know the CCAH team. I wish they shared their favorite office snacks on their website or something, so that I could shower them in little treats to make the long work days easier. They deserve the world!
Original review: Can we stop for a minute to appreciate when a animal hospital truly loves what they do and appreciates our pets? That's what they do here.
I have an almost 7 year old dog and a 2 year old cat. They are my babies, and I will take them to the medical professionals without hesitation to make sure they're happy/healthy.
The entire team at Compassionate Care Animal Hospital is so lovely! Dr. Forbes especially has been a light in our life. My dog has been struggling with some chronic issues for a few years now (she's a tricky case, seen a variety of vets over the years) and I love love love our primary care vet but brought our pup here to explore options they don't have (like imaging, for example).
I heard back from Dr. Forbes within four DAYS of her testing with a complex written explanation/treatment plan that included alternative options to her recommendations. Are you kidding me?! That's outstanding!
The last thing I wanted to mention is how happy my dog is when we leave. I know it sucks not to be able to go in with our babies, but I don't have too much concern about that here. My dog is extremely nervous but it's so clear that every person in the office takes care of your pet while they're inside. My dog warmed right up to them. Their impact was so great that when we went to the pet store down the road after our appointment my pup was warm and excited (without hesitation) with those strangers, too! They have a lasting impact on their patients. <3
I can't recommend them and this hospital enough. If you have a furry friend who needs the help of medical professionals, please give them a shot!

Can’t think of a more aptly named place. Office staff are responsive and helpful. Our rescue dog Bonnie becomes very fearful and stressed out at the vet, which makes going feel overwhelming for us too. Compassionate care gives us peace of mind with their accommodations and knowledgeable approach. Dr. Forbes and the behaviorist Cassie go slow and make thoughtful plans to help Bonnie feel as comfortable as possible, and were so kind and loving towards her. It really is very impressive and reassuring to watch them work their magic. I recommend this place to anyone with a reactive or fearful pet!

Love the care that we have received from the team here. Amazing vets and techs that take the time to reassure our very nervous dog. The couple of times we have had an emergency situation or question, they have been quick to help us figure out a plan and answer our questions. The customer service is great and we love that they genuinely care about our pup!

Everyone at CCAH have been so kind and patient, and I cannot express my gratitude enough for every single person there. From the moment my cats were seen at the door, the staff took time to get to know them before jumping in to exams.
One of my cats has extreme anxiety - and under Dr. Forbes’ care, he’s already so much happier in just a few months, AND we were able to speak via telehealth so my boy didn’t have to deal with the anxiety of going back and forth.
I absolutely recommend them.

Dr. Forbes and all of the providers and techs are CCAH are incredible and so helpful! They really take the time to educate you on treatment options and courses of action for your pets. You can tell everyone at the clinic has a passion for what they do and care deeply about your pet. I really appreciated the time and care they took to ensure that the treatment plan for my dog was able to fit into our lifestyle and budget and had alternatives ready for if it didn't work with our constraints. Everyone at CCAH treats your pet as if they were their own family members.

I started working with CCAH when I first moved to Ann Arbor in May 2021. At that time, I lived with one dog, Stitch, whom I adopted in 2014, when he was a puppy. The CCAH staff - everyone from the front desk people to the technicians to the veterinarians - always welcomed me and my questions and cared deeply for Stitch and his wellbeing. In September 2023, I adopted a puppy called Cyril. Stitch, who was then ten years old, showed aggressive behaviors towards Cyril. Cyril also demonstrated signs of extreme anxiety - both around Stitch and when he was not near Stitch. In early 2024, Stitch attacked Cyril, biting and scratching him in what I think involved "resource guarding" behavior. I can't remember the details right now, but I think Stitch wanted a toy that Cyril was playing with that morning. I immediately took Cyril to the CCAH. They examined him and treated his bite wound. The staff also recommended separating Stitch and Cyril while trying to train Stitch to be less aggressive.
The CCAH staff also recommended working with a dog behavior tainer. I found Harmony Dog Training via a web search. We met weekly with a Harmony Dog trainer for much of the winter and spring of 2024. A CCAH technician also offered to meet 1-on-1 with Cyril in "happy visits" to help to alleviate his anxiety around visting the clinic and meeting new people.
In working with the Harmony Dog trainer, he pointed out that Cyril isn't just anxious in new environments - he's anxious always. He recommended a veterinary assessment for Cyril's suitability for psychotropic drug treatment for anxiety. The trainer also recommended that Stitch be evaluated for his own anxiety, although Stitch's anxiety was less debilitating than Cyril's.
In May 2024, we met with a CCAH veterinarian on zoom to discuss the possibilitiy of medical treatment for Stitch and Cyril. The dog trainer participated in the call, too
He had taken videos of Cyril's behavior during a walk near our home. Sharing these, in addition to our narratives, with the veterinarian was very helpful. We decided to treat both dogs with a daily medication staring in late May 2024.
In the weeks following the start of the medications, both dogs have shown less frequent signs of anxiety. Importantly, Cyril seems to have much lower default level of anxiety. he is more interested in exploring his surroundings on walks. He seems to relax more at home, too.
Due to an inter-state relocation for work, I left Michigan in late June 2024. The CCAH staff offered to help us in finding new veterinary care providers in our new home.
The treatment plan for the dogs' anxiety has been transformative. Initiall.y, I hadn't even recognized Cyril's behavior patterns as signs of anxiety, but the dog trainer from Harmony Dog Training immediately recognized them. This, i think, is what started us on the trajectory that led to his eventual treatment with medications and behavior training.
I am deeply indebted to the excellent and thorough care that CCAH provided me and my dogs. Their willingness to recognize and treat my dogs' anxiety disorders has dramatically improved their wellbeing and, in so doing, has improved mine, too.

If I could give this place a negative rating I would. I have a Siamese I paid x amount of money for with an eye issue. I have scheduled an appointment and I was told regardless of whether I wanted him fixed or not they would fix him against my wishes while he was there before even knowing what was wrong with him. I don't know how a place can force somebody to do a surgery on their animal without their consent. I had intentions on having one litter of my Siamese before he got fixed and I was honest with them about it and apparently that was a mistake because they thought it was their right to fix my cat against my wishes. And then denied him treatment because I didn't want him to be fixed. Very unprofessional and this is not legal either and I will be seeking legal help.

I've never experienced any healthcare, for pets or for humans, that compares to the level of care and compassion that Dr. Forbes and her staff provided. Another vet (our original vet) gave us a devastating diagnosis for our cat, Pumpkin, and we were desperately seeking a second opinion. Every office I called told me I would have to wait weeks to be seen as a "new patient". I didn't have weeks, as Pumpkin was originally diagnosed with a rapidly progressing illness that can be fatal. Compassionate Care not only quickly returned my call (I left a message on their after hours line), but they agreed to see my cat first thing Monday morning! I cried tears of joy and was so happy my girl was going to be seen! From start to finish, our experience was nothing short of amazing! I am forever grateful for the compassionate, efficient, and thorough care we received! I would highly recommend Compassionate Care!

Fantastic veterinary practice! Our dog and us have been very pleased with all the veterinarians, vet techs, and staff. They are very patient with our energetic lab pup, yet very consistent reinforcing positive behavior. Their office runs smoothly and efficiently. I’m so glad we chose this practice when looking for a vet in Ann Arbor. We loved our previous vet before moving and I couldn’t imagine finding a place that would meet all my expectations, but CCAH exceeds them.

Dr. Forbes advised us in ways that were unprofessional, inconsistent, and confusing. Her erratic behavior added stress to an already very difficult situation with our dog. Would not recommend.

It's 2024 and they still want you to wear a mask inside. Really? After all the research you still think they work? Whoever made this decision should be stripped of their medical degree. You lost me as a customer forever, and I know a couple other people who won't go back as well. Turn off the news and think for yourself.

Dr. Forbes and the entire CCAH staff have been incredible to work with. My dog has a lot of anxiety and CCAH truly lives up to the fear-free certification. Dr. Forbes makes talking about different medications very understandable and really works with me as a partner in my pet's wellness plan. The whole team is very patient and understanding. There is so much expertise and knowledge in the use of medications, which is the future of veterinary medicine. Thank you!
