About Huron Humane Society
The Huron Humane Society is the oldest and largest no-kill shelter in Northeast Michigan. Founded in 1982, the mission of HHS is to find no-kill solutions to reduce the homeless pet population in Alpena County using education, rehabilitation, and rehoming of adoptable dogs and cats. HHS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dependent on donations from the public to stay in operation. Reviewers have praised the Huron Humane Society for its caring and professional staff, who have helped rehome pets and provided excellent care. The facility is described as clean, though a bit smelly due to the busy operations. Visitors have enjoyed playing with the adoptable kittens and have been impressed by the welcoming environment. The organization is appreciated for its efforts to reduce the homeless pet population, and the public is encouraged to support it through donations, volunteering, and other means.

The staff is wonderful there. My grandsons love to go there on the weekends to play with the kittens, they really enjoy going there. The staff is so patient with them. Excellent place to visit. You can take your pop bottles to donate they really appreciate them.

This place needs an employee overhaul IMMEDIATELY! They literally tell you that if you have animals in need of a home to just let them outside, that “they will fend for themselves” shame on you as human beings and a humane society. You should all be slapped in the face and fired 100%
