I needed to place my cats and I got no response from them when I really needed it.

Seems to be another case of a rescue who will let their kittens and cats age out in the rescue instead of actually adopting them out, especially judging from the reviews. I applied for a kitten with years of cat/kitten fostering experience. I have a cat at home who is 8, incredibly playful and loves having a companion. Without asking for details, they denied the application stating that kittens need a cat 3 years old or younger. That's kind of ridiculous - especially when the reasoning behind it is that my cat must be too old, but they refuse to adopt out cats to the elderly since cats live so long.It would be nice for them to actually communicate and make the effort of adopting out their kittens. Looks like we'll have to find our addition elsewhere.

Great shelter to work with to get your pets from as they care a lot for these animals and find them great homes.

Applied for an adorable kitten and brought him home less than 2 weeks later. The process was so easy and I could not be happier with my new furry friend. Thank you!

Do you like wasting your time and being ignored? This is the place for you!!Other places adopt their animals to you same day you visit. Check out Monadnock Humane Society’s website.Ahimsa picks & chooses who they will deal with & are very bias & judgmental. Asking very inappropriate, ridiculous questions. So, to all you positive posting people, complaining about us naysayers, pat yourselves on the shoulders, hooray for yoooouuuu. You must be perfect. How expensive were the clothes you showed up in? Have flashy jewelry did you? These animals sit in Ahimsa for MONTHS on end - all because of their ridiculous procedures & pettiness.

Cannot say enough good things about this shelter! I saw a kitten named "Timmy" that I wanted to adopt. I went on their site and filled out an application. I received an email response that evening to authorize my vet to talk to them. A few days later I called and left a message to see where things stood and received a call back later that day to set up a visit to meet Timmy. All the cats were obviously well cared for and very social. We took Timmy home and couldn't be happier. This shelter is run solely by volunteers who only want to place the cats in safe loving homes. Most of the negative comments are from people who haven't been approved. While I understand them being upset the shelter had a reason for doing so. If you want a healthy, happy and well socialized cat or kitten this is definitely the place to go.

After already adopting 2 cats 8 years ago which the cats are still alive and i have spent over 5000.00 on there health issues to give them a better quality of life, After loosing my cat that was not adopted from Ahimsa we finally decided to adopt another cat, I applied and having to prove I was a good person it became to exhausting so needless to say I am not going to be giving a cat a beautiful home, so sad.

After loosing my cat that was not adopted through them, I finally decided to adopted another cat, 8 years ago I adopted 2 kittens from Ahimsa the kittens ended up having a genetic disorder so we paid thousands of dollars to have their teeth removed so they can have a better quality of life. When I applied again I was questioned way to much especially about my beautiful cat that passed away that had nothing to do with them. We are good people and good loving people deserve to be able to adopt a cat or dog without this nonsense. At the end of the day I changed my mind, I am not going to adopt another cat. I now know why there are so many animals in shelters, to much time having to prove yourself to them. NOPE, I am better than that.

This shelter discriminates against Seniors. I ACTUALLY GIVE THEM 0. STARS. They are fortune tellers.Telling you the cat will live 16 to 20years if it is younger than 8. And assume you will be dead ,and the cat will be abandoned, if you die . If your approved, you can adopt an 8year old beyondcat .I told her ,my son would definitely take the cat if I passed.Having , just lost a beautiful loving cat , almost 10,of a possible tumor, and a fatal seizure, the person in charge has no compassion, whatsoever. MY HEART WAS BROKEN. SHAME ON. HER . I READ ABOUT HERCULES, THE CAT SHOULD BE RETURNED.I told the woman in charge I was going to tell Everyone of the discrimination. Based on my threat to do that ,and being 77. they denied, me a companion cat. I have had cats for over forty years. And fed many strays, and tried to find them homes.I AM A RESPONSIBLE OWNER. I EVEN GAVE INFO WHERE I GOT MY CAT THAT PASSEDI as 70 when I adopted my 3year old cat. I outlived her. And she had THE BEST OF EVERYTHING.Well ,I just adopted a 2yr.7monrh old cat ,from a caring , shelter, that Really wants cats ,to find good homes. .Don't waste your time ,on a shelter that Discriminates.I feel bad for the cats ,that can have A good home, and this shelter,DISCRIMINATES.GOD BLESS THE SHELTERS ,THAT CARE MORE ABOUT GIVING A CAT A GOOD HOME

To the people who've had good interaction with this place, good for you, but also shame on you if you think the negative reviews are fake or people just upset they got denied. My mother, who's elderly and just lost her cat at 10 years old from a brain tumor is having similar experiences with this shelter. After several emails she finally got a response saying her application was approved, but was ONLY approved to adopt a senior cat. My mother has owned cats for over 40 years and they've all been indoor cats and well cared for. The idea that this shelter discriminates based on age is awful. My mother is heartbroken over her cat passing. She went downhill in just 3 weeks and she died right in front of her after having a seizure. This, after spending $1500 on tests, appointments and medication. It's bad enough getting older, but to have a place limit your ability to adopt based on age? What an awful thing to do with someone. This shelter should be ashamed of themselves.

Absolutely horrendous place! It's either a huge scam or run by incompetent unprofessional people. I contacted them about a specific kitten, after jumping through hoops for them for almost a week (with long periods of them completely ignoring my emails) they tell me "I cannot guarantee that this kitten is available, but we have many others". WOW.

My husband and I adopted a 12 year old cat from Ahimsa Haven in May 2023 and were grateful to have been approved for adoption. Laura responded very quickly to our application and made the meet and greet easy and pleasant. The shelter's cages are massive and I am happy that the cats have plenty of room. What a wonderful service for our community.

Wish I could give 0 stars after my own personal experience with them and reading reviews. I’m starting to think this place is a scam, if not very poor unprofessional run, with very inconsiderate people! I actually worry for the animals there, many that are aging, and clearly caged to long, being left alone… as the place does not communicate, and is like fort knox to get into or a hold of. What are they hiding? Why do they have clearly adoptable cats that are there for years and years?? What kind of quality of life is that? I think the State should investigate!!!
