After 8 years with this bank of uncooperative service, I have decided to close my account. Every time I request any service from a teller other than to take my deposit (notarize a document, issue a cashier's check, etc.) I am met with resistance and red tape. I have never dealt with a bank that is so unwilling to help customers.

I love this bank! I don't know why anyone would use a large impersonal bank when you can get so much better service and lower fees here. You can get through to people on the phone and it's a real employee who actually tries to solve your problem not an overseas telecenter reading off a script. Also Middlesex savings bank has much lower fees than I found elsewhere. For example when using the debit card overseas they give you the exact exchange rate unlike many large banks which will gouge you with fees and an exchange rate in their favor. I don't know of any other bank that has such a good rate for overseas charges as just one example. Also they're fairly careful about the security of accounts unlike many large banks.

They literally closed my checking account with no warning or letter. Totally blindsided when I went to use it for direct deposit.

I love working with a local bank and for the local branch I give them five stars. Friendly, cooperative. Then we look at the services ...very vanilla - don't be looking for anything special. Now to the Business account....they are a group that says no. Took me six months to get my wife to be able to sign on the account...so much red tape..so much NO...Never met a business bank that is so negative - so three stars in total. Too bad, if you had a good business dept. you would be doing so much better.

It’s always nice to bank where they remember you. The staff are smart and friendly and I drive from Lowell to do my banking here.

The staff here is competent and friendly enough but the bank's offerings are plain vanilla. We asked for a couple of services that are not on their standard list and were immediately referred to corporate where we encountered a group of lawyers who said no to everything. We since have switched to a smaller bank and they are more than happy to accommodate us and couldn't be easier to deal with. If you are looking for the standard checking/savings stuff they're fine. Anything more than that don't bother.

This is a good, friendly bank. I have always gotten great service from them.
