Gabe Cervantes is working on my underwater/ space themed half sleeve. It is looking amazing. He works fast and efficiently and the time goes by fast as he is cracking jokes. I am excited to keep going back to complete this piece. Highly recommend 10/10

The store showcases work from local artists - jewelry, scarves, and other hand-made items. You can also get things custom-made if there are pieces that you like. The people running the cash register are artists themselves, as they take turns doing it. I have found some great gifts in there!

I wandered into the Clever Hand for the first time yesterday afternoon while strolling through downtown Wellesley, and wandered out with 3 gorgeous, local artisan-made pieces (handloomed bamboo scarf, hand-dyed silk scarf, and glove leather belt with carved wood "buckle"), none of which I had expected to acquire but could not possibly leave without! The store is stuffed with lovely, one of kind or limited run things that reflect the vision and interests of individual, Massachusetts-based artists--so much more satisfying to browse than a big box store full of mass-produced stuff. The artisan/salesperson who checked me out (she works in paper, making cards and charming wall collages for children) was welcoming and helpful, and my checkout experience in no way resembled the one described by a previous poster. (Frankly, I was a bit taken aback by how indignant that poster got over her frustrating experience--seems she loved the contents of the store, but knocked it THREE stars for inefficient customer service? That seems disproportionate and unfair...)

You can find my coordinated fabric accessories at the Clever Hand Gallery in Wellesley, from semi-formal handbags, coin pouches, cell phone cases, etc., all washable. Great for gift giving.

Oh dear. Do you want the good news or the bad news? The good news: There are beautiful, locally made pieces of art that would put any gift purchased at the mall to shame. There is a large selection of jewelry, clothing, pottery, ornaments, and other individually designed works of art. Most are one-of-a-kind. The bad news, however, is really bad. The gifted artists who make the items sold in the store are also unpaid salespeople and cashiers! What does this mean for you, the customer? Unless it's her own piece, the artist/salesperson will know very little about the merchandise. It will take you no less than 3 or 4 people (i.e. artist-salespeople) to cash you out, but not before calling other artists on the phone to ask prices of particular items. Expect a minimum 25 minute checkout process. (and this is when there is no one else in the store!). Although I appreciate the unique gifts artists bring to the public, they also have to realize they are running a business in the middle of Wellesley Center. Get some help! Please!
