My son loves the YMCA camp. He made some good friends there. The camp counselors are very kind.

YMCA would be the best community that I have got to experience with my family. It’s really an amazing place for family entertainment. I guarantee that you won’t notice the time fly by.

No on was there to open at 5:30 again. Been a member less than 60 days and this is a handful of times now. I’ll be cancelling as soon as I find another gym. Check out the pic.
The men’s locker room smells of urine and is clearly not maintained regularly. Look at the pictures of poo! All of these photos were taken different days and right at opening.
No one enforces wiping down equipment which means you get to bask in the glory of others’ sweat and germs.
The basketballs are constantly deflated and the best they can do is offer you a pump. It took contacting via the website to finally have them inflated.
There are not enough weight plates, especially the 45’s
In the last month there have been more than once where the place isn’t open because someone is not there early enough to open. No apologies, no credit given. Nothing. When the hours changed for construction, no credit given, either. You change your hours and it eliminates the gym as a possibility for those of us who don’t have the schedule to move around.

I was disappointed with my recent experience at the YMCA Center. The facility closed on weekends without any prior notice, causing several cars, including ours, to turn around. This was the second time we encountered such an issue, despite our infrequent visits. Additionally, the locker rooms for the outdoor pool were closed, leaving only one combined locker room with an open shower space available for both men and women.
Be aware that membership fees are charged automatically on a monthly basis. When we attempted to cancel our membership, we were informed that a 15-day notice in writing is required. This lack of flexibility and communication is something potential members should consider before joining.

The skin on my foot got scratched off in the swimming pool! The wall is too rough! I never thought something like this could happen. I can’t imagine how the pool is still operating with such a serious safety issue.

The swim class was poorly managed. There was a lack of consistent instruction, with three different instructors over the course of four sessions and no clear communication about backup plans. In the last class, the backup instructor's role seemed minimal; she merely kept track of the time and repeatedly announced the remaining minutes without engaging in actual teaching. She was covering two classes simultaneously and showed little interest in the students since she wouldn’t be seeing them again. My child was left unattended for 15 minutes, shaking from inactivity in the cold water, while another child was crying for attention. This was a deeply disappointing experience.
Additionally, they don’t open at their scheduled time, leaving people waiting outside and wasting their time.

No hair dryer, no swimsuit cleaner—this branch is a joke and lowers the reputation of the YMCA. You have to walk out with a wet suit and hair on a rainy day. I got a cold because of this. The whole experience at this YMCA branch is awful compared to other branches. The team coordination is chaotic. I signed up for swim lessons, and no one told me that they were canceled! The guy at the front desk just let me sign up!! When I drove there, the whole facility was closed. The manager said they would reach out to me for a refund, but no one ever contacted me!!
When I finally had the class, I found that the women’s changing room didn’t have a hair dryer, and this issue has been there for a long time! The swimsuit cleaner was also out of order. The whole facility management is a mess.
However, those awful experience is not the worst part. When I reported these issues, the people at the front desk asked me to contact the facility manager myself, and they were not sure if the issues would be taken care of. I have to reach out myself as a customer?????? because the front desk only handles memberships?????? What a joke.
They robbed your money and don’t address any serious management issues.

We belong to a different Y as our primary membership and love it. Last summer we had a couple bad experiences at the Waltham Y outdoor pool but decided to give it another chance this summer since it comes with our membership. What a mistake! If you want your children in tears at the pool, this is the spot for you. The lifeguards are absolutely AWFUL! Their rules are different than what is posted on the sign at the entrance, and they seem to just enjoy giving people a hard time, no exceptions. My daughter is 6.5 and attended 3 YMCA camps this summer and swim lessons for the last several years at the Y. She can swim independently and has taken multiple swim tests at the reading Y and passed. The lifeguard in Waltham made up random requirements for the test and ended up failing my daughter after much anxiety at having to even take the test again. Tears ensued to which the guard said "I don't make the rules." Very confusing as she was compliant with the posted signage. Speaking to the head guard, useless. I totally understand water safety, my kids are all in lessons, but having one of 3 kids restricted in the pool for no real reason was very stressful and pretty much ruined our day. Overall, just a very unpleasant experience with lifeguards on a power trip. It was the same last summer with different scenarios. We will be going to the Stoneham boys and girls club for the remainder of the summer--now this place is great! And an awesome splash pad as well. Boo on you Waltham YMCA.

NO SHOW EMAILS FROM THE WALTHAM YMCA. I go to other YMCAs in the area and no other Y is as unresponsive and and punitive as the YMCA in Waltham. I drove 25 minutes to the tai chi class today. Checked-in on my phone App. Found out that the substitute was teaching yoga. So I left, spending a wasted roundtrip of 50 minutes. I then get this 'no show' warning email from Waltham Y. Very frustrating and not very helpful.
