pretty mid. $12 for a brand new pair of white fox pants and princess polly pants that still had tags on them. didn’t take brand new pair of nike basketball shoes. employees aren’t super friendly and the whole vibe there was weird so i didn’t shop after selling. they also don’t donate clothes that they don’t take from you like most plato’s.

Have brought men's clothing here a few times over the past several years. Their payouts are very low but if you don't mind that then the place is not bad. Today they offered me $22 for 5 pairs of jeans, so $4.40 per pair. The sign that they made me read said that they are currently accepting all categories of clothes for men but only certain categories for women. You might want to call first to see which categories of women's clothes they are accepting.

Do not come here if you’re looking for quality. Jean selection is okay. All of the tops they had were fast fashion- no brandy or anything worthwhile. Gave me 4 bucks for two urban outfitters items, a top and jeans.

Owner is not very friendly and made me feel uncomfortable bringing clothes in. He said since I was selling 3 weeks ago (yes im cleaning out my closet) he said I was flagged in his system and won't be able to sell again if I come again within 8 weeks? very strange considering I worked at a platos for 5 years and was the assistant manager and I've never heard of this odd policy. It took me back because he made me feel unwanted and he was extremely rude. I didn't care how much he offered because again I was just cleaning out my closet and I know how the process works. It was a weird experience and I probably won't be back.

The two star review should’ve been just 1 but I can’t hate on how the owner does his business. But for people to sell a good amount of good conditioned clothing for a low ball total is insane to me. I understand it’s a thrift store and they don’t buy at retail. But the clothing in that store is so outdated I don’t understand the calculation for newly instyled clothes to be offered a cheap amount. I’ve sold to Platos before and had taken the offer but for some reason the offer gets cheaper and cheaper. I’m not too sure if the owner does the checking and totaling, but I feel like the employees who work there should have some sort of say. As they know what’s in style and what isn’t (i say this because i loved some of the girls outfits there) But can’t hate how business gets their bag. I won’t be going back. Thank you

I had a rather unique experience at Plato's Closet in Waltham. I've been to various Plato's Closet locations across the USA, and this one stood out. While the expected $1 payout for a $70 item wasn't an issue for me, there were some peculiar aspects to this store. Firstly, the owner's anonymity raised eyebrows. They wouldn't disclose their name, which seemed quite shady.I made numerous calls over 6 weeks at the suggested times but never managed to reach the owner. The workers advised me to keep trying, and I asked for the owner's name so I could refer to them when calling, but I was told the owner doesn't allow anyone to know their name. The website was also unreliable and outdated.Scheduling a clothes sale took months due to their 30-item limit and further disorganization. I was given a specific time, but when I arrived, the owner was absent, and I was asked to drop off the clothes for him to review in 1 to 3 days as the two workers there were not going to review them. This was frustrating as I live far away and preferred the usual on-the-spot review process but there was nothing I could do about it, so I agreed. To add to the confusion, I received a message to pick up the clothes on the same day, and the owner accused me of not following directions. This was a communication issue between him and his worker, but it was unfairly blamed on me. Eventually, he did buy some of my clothes, but the mixed information and stress of the process were discouraging.Taking two trips for a small payout wasn't worth it, and I'd rather donate my items in the future. It felt like they treated customers as potential scammers, which was frustrating. I showed up at the agreed-upon time, but the owner didn't, making it seem like he didn't follow instructions.Despite my mixed experience, I may consider suggesting to people who live close to Waltham to sell at Plato's Closet in the future when they offer appointments for 30 items or less, allowing them to bypass direct interactions with the owner. If making $30 is worth it to them. Finally, I echo the sentiments of other reviews mentioning the poor quality of some clothing and shoes in the store. While there are good-looking items, it's evident that some items should be either discarded or placed on heavy discounts to better cater to customers looking for quality purchases. Attached are a couple pictures of items for sale. Some good, some bad.

After a much-needed closet clean-out, I visited Plato's Closet with moderate expectations. My sister had recommended it, as my original plan was to donate the clothes I no longer needed. The scheduling technique is ONLINE ONLY and not too mobile friendly. Expect frustrations there especially with very limited time to pick a slot for the day. The check-in process was a bit frustrating too as it took a few tries to get it right, but once that hurdle was cleared, things went smoothly. I received a text indicating it would take about 30 minutes to evaluate my clothes. During this time, I had the option to explore the store or come back after the allotted time. I decided to go wait in my car and from where I was parked, I could see the workers going through each item.Ultimately, they accepted all items with tags and a few lightly worn pieces, which was exactly as I expected. When they were finished, I got another text to come back in. I was informed they would offer $35 for the 11 items they selected. While this was a pleasant surprise, I couldn't help but reflect on the fact that some of those items, particularly the jeans, had originally cost $60 each. Nevertheless, I was grateful for the offer.I decided to keep the cash instead of the items, as my original intention was to donate. I didn't get a chance to browse much, but the store itself was impressively clean and devoid of any thrift store odors. The staff was notably helpful, and I observed a steady flow of customers in and out.

Not sure about all of the negative reviews. I went to shop on a Monday night at 7pm. Store was clean, items were reasonably priced and staff was nice. I checked out with who I presume to be the owner. He was very friendly and let me know there’d be holiday deals coming up. Note: I did not try to sell anything so I can’t speak for that experience.

I love this store!! The store manager is incredibly nice, all the employees are kind and have great attitudes, and they have a clearance section which eventually is donated to goodwill! The store is nice and clean- stop by if you want cute sustainable options :)

Incorrect hours on Apple Maps and Yelp. The store closes at 6pm on Saturday and 8pm during the week. 9pm on Saturday is 3 hours off lol. Sometimes I feel like I have to call everywhere first.

I have visited this store a couple of times, but it has been a few years. I've been trying to make an appointment to sell some unneeded clothing for a couple of months. Even though I followed their websites directions, logging on exactly when told to, I was unable to score an appointment for weeks on end! When I finally got in, I noted that their email confirmation said they were accepting spring/summer stuff but their website said sweaters, hoodies, long sleeves, coats...hmm. Glad I double checked! Upon entering the store, about 5 minutes before my appointment time, I was not greeted by the two young women at the counter. In fact, although I hovered there for a few minutes, they did not say a word to me, and seemed to purposefully avoid eye contact. Finally, I got their attention. "Hello!" I said, cheerfully. Stony silence. Then: "Do you have an appointment?" I swear, she seemed disappointed that I did indeed have one! "Okay, it will be 30 minutes, we will text you when we are done." I looked around, sure that I could find something to buy with my earnings from my bags. Since the store was empty and I had an appointment, I assumed she would begin to look at my things right away. NOPE! She looked at me, almost staring me down as in a dare, and turned and walked off. My bags sat on the counter for 25 minutes...while the store remained empty--maybe 1-2 other people came in during the entire time I was in the store. I looked at every possible rack, twice in some cases. Still no progress on my things, the bags just sat there forlorn. I kept checking my phone to see if I possibly missed a text telling me to come to the counter. NOPE! The store smells absolutely terrible, like a combination of sweat and filth and spoiled milk, but mostly sweat and sour milk, and I wasn't finding anything at all that I was interested in purchasing. I was sooooo close to going up and telling them to just keep the clothing, I had to go out side to breathe and it wasn't worth it. But when I approached the counter, they miraculously finally finished up. They took 95% of what I brought in, and I got about the $ I expected so this is not at all a revenge review, but oh my god, I will never step foot in here again. I actually would rather donate my clothing. It is too bad, because the store concept is great and there is no reason why shopping here shouldn't be a totally fun and pleasant experience. But the execution here is appalling!

There was a good selection of items but they were a little pricey for second hand clothes (depending on the brand). If you’re hoping to sell clothes you have to make an appointment online in advance at this location.
