Not going there again. Can’t look through the racks and the lady at the front desk pretty much told me we don’t want your business if you want to view raw wood for your custom project. Huh? Says they can’t find people to work (maybe pay them better??). Meanwhile 6 people sitting in the office on their phones. Downs and Reader was great back in the day. Have to find the other half of that business split. Rugby’s will not make it with that customer attitude. C ya

Nope. As owner of a small shop who needs <100 bf of any species at a time, Rugby is a dud. All the + reviews here are for the Downes & Reader years, prior to sale. No longer the selection, ability to unstack and select boards. Highland Hardwoods in Brentwood NH is a farther go as Rugby couldn't care less about customers. Who buys from such a contemptible company? Only Bozos.

Great place, very friendly staff. Everyone...while you may not be able to look through their racks, you can place an order and have it ready for you to pick up in a day or 2 depending on what you order. You CAN go inside the office and the friendly staff will assist you in whatever you may need. It is the same great stock as always!

You can not browse wood or even enter the office without having already ordered and paid online.

I'd been shopping at D&R since before they had lights in the barns so it's been a while. A great family business that sold out to Rugby which has spoiled the business. There are great stores in Avon, Taunton and Medford that I shop at now.

If you’re buying hardwoods and care to pick what you’re buying, take your business elsewhere.Under the new management, the selection of species is a small fraction of what it was, I have not been permitted to select what I bought, the match between what I requested and what was picked was disappointing and the process took several days. I won’t go back.

I just heard that it's unlikely that Rugby ABP / Downes & Reader will re-open it's retail space where a large selection of rough sawn hardwood and plywood was open to the public for browsing. This is really sad news, as there are few retail stores like it left.I guess the business model just wasn't there to support keeping this type of space open post COVID-19. So sad. For us woodworkers, it seems like there are fewer and fewer retailers left that we can go and actually handle the product before we buy.

My rating isn't for the quality...This place simply no longer has the barn for hardwood. I went by there today and they are out of that business unfortunately. Need to find another lumberyard

It is a shame that the Downes and Reader company has lost its customer service and lumber selection at the Stoughton location. For years the company was always there for local woodworker or commercial accounts. If this is a sign of the future we are being forced to look elsewhere for the products we always could count on from the Stoughton company..

Great selection of hardwoods. I was able to get 6/4 white oak which I was unable to find elsewhere. With the pandemic they are not allowing customers to pick the woods, but I provided my requirements and they turned around the request in a couple days with some milling and and had it ready for pickup
