Everything went well and I received a Nissan Murano instead of the Nissan Maxima. Short waiting time and very nice employees. Drop off at the Loop in Chicago without any problems. Thank you and gladly again!

In June I rented a car from them.
Very friendly and helpful staff, even with us not speaking very good English.
I recommend it and then the Chevrolet Malibu is fantastic.

I came here for the car I reserved and waited 20 minutes to find out they have negative 2 cars. So it goes.

I chose the Hertz due to it's location, and I'm glad I did. I had the best service. The woman that helped me was so super friendly with me, I swear she said her name is Wasylean, but I could be confusing that with my daughters dorm name, I'm sorry was stressed and can't remember. I was only there cuz my personal CAR CAUGHT FIRE. I'd go back, it took a while to get everything set, but, these things take time you can't expect to get there and just hope in a car. so everyone keep that in mind also.

Went through insurance because my car was under repair. Called my insurance and two hours later i was picking up the car. I called ahead and they agreed to stay open a little but past their closing time to get me the car so quickly. Super friendly and great experience.

I rent vehicles about once every two weeks for work. I recently moved to Somerville and this location is about a 5 min walk which in theory should make it super convenient. I have been to this location 3 times now and it is the most inefficient car rental place I have ever been to. I have never been in here for less than 30 min and on one occasion was waiting behind 5 people for over two hours. While the staff is nice they never seem ready for anyone, gas is never received with a full tank, they always seem to have to clean it as they are handing you the keys. It would be quicker and faster to get to the airport to rent a car than the 5 min walk and wait it takes here. The poor staffing and long waits make this place impossibly difficult to rent from. Only under extreme situation do I plan to come back. Hire more staff if that’s what you need.

Payton was fantastic to work with. Highly recommend this location and him in particular. A pretty small location but a worthwhile experience here because of him. His service was above and beyond dealing with some extenuating circumstances - enough that I wrote a review. Best person I've worked with in any rental.
The airport, in comparison, has been an absolute joke.

the staff here is 5 stars.
the systems employed by Hertz to manage rentals are 1-2 stars.
BUT If I ever rent with Hertz again (probably not, see comment about their systems), I will come here. both of the young employees there that day were kind, hard working, and truly went the extra mile to help us out of a jam (that started in the Medford Hertz location, where the only person I could find working there was actively unhelpful).

Twice now I've tried to rent from this location. Both times they were over booked and didn't have cars available at the time of the reservation. Do not trust reservations at this location.

I agree to most reviews here that says it being a small location makes it difficult for rentals here to be smooth despite the friendly and accommodating staff members. There were some problems (car was ready late, fuel level was not full unlike what the rental sheet said, and my car had a faulty wiper blade) but I think they managed it professionally. These problems were taken care of at the return location. I chose this Hertz because it was close to where I live, but those who are in a rush and are planning something important should consider using other larger locations. Still, the staff was great so I am giving five stars

Horrible experience renting car at this location. Booked for 9am pick-up on a Thursday and waited for an hour long at the office. Staff were extremely inefficient: they only managed to process 1 person’s booking in an hour, and there were another 5 people waiting at the same time. With each person, it takes them extra time to find and inspect the car. I had to book another rental with a different provider at a different location last-minute, which resulted in $100+ surcharge and a missed appointment. If online platform (e.g expedia) gives options at this location, please consider other locations & providers even if their rates are slightly higher.

We booked a car at 9am, waited in a line of 5 customers, but by 10am, 4 of us were still there, with no end in sight, and no staff assisting us or answering questions. We ended up missing a meeting and rushing to the Enterprise at Central in order to catch another appointment. When we tried to cancel, we were told that we couldn’t! Because the time for pickup had passed! But where was the car to be picked up? Finally after some yelling we managed to cancel it. Do not recommend this dehumanizing experience.

I reserved a car to see the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. My reservation was for 8:00 AM. As of 8:30 AM, I was the 22nd (last) party in line, and there were only 3 cars physically present at the location. Virtually all of the 21 parties ahead of me said that there reservation was also for 8 AM.
Staff said that the small inventory was because of rentals being overdue, but I find it hard to believe that there were 19 more cars due back at 8 AM that were overdue. Instead, I think Hertz's website and lack of proper inventory management is to blame.
If you look at Google Street View, you can see that this Hertz location is extremely small, so I have no idea why Hertz let all 22 of us make reservations for cars at 8 AM. I don't believe that 22 cars were planned to be present at 8 AM, and I don't believe that the location can handle more than, say 10 pick-ups an hour. Hertz ought to fix its inventory/booking system for this location (trying to book a car at Boston Logan Airport correctly failed and told me no cars were available; why couldn't the same be done for Somerville?), and it also ought to consider limiting time slots to a certain maximum number of pick-ups. Had there even been 22 cars on-site, it would have probably been 9 or 10 AM by the time I, at the end of the line, picked up the car. So I might as well have booked for 10 AM.
Still, the employees at this location were extremely nice and tried their hardest to make the best of a horrible situation, so I really commend them for that. This was more an issue with Hertz's inventory/booking system, but it unfortunately affected so many people trying to see the eclipse on the 9th.
Personally, I was EXTREMELY fortunate to have a friend nearby who was able and willing to lend me his car, but I'm not sure what happened to the other 21 parties in line. I really hope something worked out for them, because I can only imagine how devastating it would be for months of planning to come crashing down on the morning of the day of the eclipse.
Again, thank you to the Hertz Somerville employees for trying their best to be helpful. Otherwise, I would give this location a 1-star review. Shame on Hertz for allowing this catastrophe to happen to such a small location which very obviously could never handle this high of a surge of demand. Their inventory and booking software needs to be improved.
EDIT: Hertz has given a copy-and-pasted response about the shortage being unanticipated and due to overdue rentals. If they had read my review, then they would have seen that I don't buy this excuse. I don't believe for a second that 19 cars were expected to be on this location's lot (which can hold, say, 10-15 cars?) by 8 AM. I don't believe that the only reason this location wasn't able to fulfill all 22 reservations is because 19 customers returned their cars late. This places blame on the customers, which is wrong. Obviously, there is a larger, Hertz-based issue at play here either with location's inventory management and reservation capacity. Unfortunately, I'll be downgrading this from a 2-star to a 1-star review simply to get the message across that if you really need a car rental (i.e., the bare minimum), this sadly is not a location you can depend on purely by virtue of its small size. Again, no fault of the staff, who tried their best.

Booked a car for 9am to see eclipse. When I arrived they had a line of 25 people with no stock and said they were expecting 20 cars back "throughout the day"
Unacceptable level of inventory management. Only book here if you need a car on a low-traffic day and you have no pressing time concerns for pickup, or you might get burned. Still figuring out my cancellation with them.
