I have used this vet for the last 20 years. We have had 2 dogs cared for by them over this time, and our experience was wonderful. Something has happened in the last year (maybe the pandemic or new management), where the quality dropped to a level that is really poor, and worrisome. Staff shortages and resulting chaos is common these days with covid, but recently we experienced numerous mix ups with medical care and procedures (one example is they gave my dog a vaccine, and then neglected to record the procedure, and it was not in his record - totally erased) which as you can imagine is dangerous. I was also told my dog needed a vaccine, and I was reminded of the appointment, and when I spoke up and said "I didn't make an appointment, and don't think my dog needs that vaccine" they said "oops sorry, we are training new staff". I trust my vet office to keep track of these things and keep my pet safe...the first time it happened I was understanding, but 5 times in the last months is not normal at all. The management was defensive instead of responsive, and chose to not take responsibly. I was willing to stay with them, had they put some effort into owning the problem. My concern is that they are disorganized and chaotic, and if this was a pizza order that may be ok, but it's medical care, and that is reckless and scary. I do not recommend this vet, until they get it together. If you love your pet, go elsewhere for your vet care.

They are great. Right from the front staff to the doctors, to the people working in the back. They are always extremely nice to me, and my 9mo pup who has been there since he was 10w old. The doctor called to follow up with us after pup's neuter, and was super professional. They are prompt and fast when reached out through app or when called. Would highly recommend.

Every review says it: the front office staff is RIDICULOUS. I have been on the phone in the "queue" for over an hour just to be hung up on- more than once! They do not apologize for long wait times and they do not call back promptly, even for my dog who had epilepsy and required frequent testing and medications ($). During annual visits, the last vet I had didn't even do a full physical exam! She claimed to have seen him in the back while taking blood. That is unacceptable and lazy, in my opinion. I want to feel like the vet seeing my dog cares about him, and I haven't found that here, despite seeing 3 different vets over the YEARS that I keep giving them chances.

Dr. Johnson is great but I had to call four times before someone addressed my question. That's really uncalled for and stressful.

I have used this vet for decades, but their front office has become increasingly chaotic (per their organization, not just covid). It took one doctor three days to get back to us re: a sick dog, records have been lost and broken communication is common. Frankly, auto garages have done much better.

Wehave had a great experience here. We have to leave because I now live in Quincy but my pet is not scared of the vet! He smiles for them! And they are very throrough and kind & accepted me during the pandemic when people were telling us to go elsewhere. Really have had a great 1.5 years here

(Was just talking with someone and it came up that we had mutually had a similar bad experience here with Dr. (Andrea) Moderi. For the safety of other potential animal patients, I think it's important to post.) I brought in a new foster dog in a few years back who had severe (bloody) enteritis, vomiting and upper respiratory infection. Dr. Moderi decided to treat him "conservatively" - a word she frequently uses apparently - and would not prescribe antibiotics (just probiotics). 24 hours later, my foster staggered into the bushes, vomited and laid down in it. I rushed him back in barely breathing, his gums and tongue cyanotic. They placed him in an oxygen chamber for several hours, and told me that they weren't sure if he was oxygen dependent, and I would need to bring him to an emergency (24 hour) facility like Angell after they closed. I took him home and vowed never to go there again. After a huge bill that the rescue couldn't cover, he ended up becoming our family dog... so I guess thats the only silver lining.

I've now been taking my dogs to Porter Square Vet for 12 years, and continue to be so thankful for the excellent care. Dr. Parker and the rest of the veterinary team are kind, attentive, and compassionate. They've remained open throughout the Covid-19 crisis, and have always found time for urgent issues. The staff handle the busy practice with patience and good cheer. Thank you, PSV.

We liked the vet, Dr. Moderi, but their front office is a hot mess. Something as simple as getting a prescription re-filled turns into a ping-pong game of phone calls, that's 45 minutes I'll never see again. Also their pharmacy prices are a racket! I found the same flea and tick medication online for 50% of the price, but it was like pulling teeth to try to get the prescription approved.

I've brought my animals to Porter Square Vet for 16 years. No more after today. I felt a growth on my bulldog's neck this weekend. I called this morning. They won't get me in until December. I work in medicine, and I know a little bit about tumors. I'm not a veterinarian, so obviously I need a professional's opinion. Maybe this growth is benign. But maybe it isn't. The solid base on this thing scares me a little. If it is malignant, time is of the essence for treatment. The receptionist asked me things like is the animal eating, lethargic, etc. No. But if you wait until an animal with a tumor has these symptoms, it might be too late. If they are basing their visits on this, and someone has to wait over a month with a pet that happens to have lymphoma, that pet may be dead. A layperson wouldn't know any better. This little dog is everything to me, and I won't gamble with her life. If they can't find 15 minutes in their schedule for her to examine her and do a needle aspirate, they don't value her life. I do, and now have an appointment with someone who was able to get me in within a week. I'll be calling to transfer the dog's records.

Dr Parker is our vet. Has been for quite a few years, and, recently, has helped us greatly as our elderly cat was dying of cancer. He was extremely attentive, compassionate, knowledgeable, and went out of his way to be supportive and kind to us, in this difficult time. This was during the height of Covid and his practice was overwhelmed, but he always found a little time to take care of our cat whenever an emergency arose. Dr Parker and his staff are great vets and pet people, and plain around great humans. Also, he's always kept prices reasonable for us and never attempted to upsell.

Porter Square Vet has been providing the best quality of veterinary care for my pets for over a decade. They are always compassionate and patient and the staff and doctors all go above and beyond to help you. I know from talking to them about one of my cats the other day, that they are very backed up due to many months of reduced capacity with the limits that the pandemic has made necessary. For those of you upset that they could not see your pet or were not able to get something done quickly enough, they can only do so much or they will not be able to provide the amazing care that they do. I would rather take my pet to an emergency hospital when needed than have my general vet stretched too thin from trying to say yes to everyone. I have also always found their prices to be reasonable as far as medical services can be considered.

Decent veterinarian, but more expensive than most. Went there for several years with two cats. Wouldn't see my dying cat when I needed them-- shame on them-- no conscience.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Absolutely appalled by my encounters here. If you want to feel like you or your pet are cared for, LOOK ELSEWHERE! You might save some money if you do. I woke up to my cat acting very odd and I was very concerned. I'm not very familiar with the area, and called a few offices near me. None were seeing new/emergency patients due to wait lists, but finally Porter said they'd see him. It was 10:24am and they asked how far away I lived. I said about 10 minutes and that I had to get my cat in the carrier still, and they told me I had the 10:30 appointment slot. I arrived at 10:40am, called to be let in and was told I had missed my appointment time. They were still willing to see him, but weren't sure when (which was fine, I had nothing else to do and wanted my cat better). After about 2 hours, they called me to let me know they had found nothing wrong and would run his blood work to figure more out. I was transferred to billing, who charged me $330. I got my cat back and went home, expecting a happy and healthy kitty once my blood work and a treatment plan came the next day. At 4:30pm, my cat seemed worse. I decided to do an evaluation of the cat myself. I instantly noticed a grey/yellow puss flowing from his right ear (picture attached), which is never a good sign! I took pictures and called the office immediately to ask if I could email them to someone to show them and help them with their diagnosis, and possibly speed up the process of him getting treated! The woman I spoke to on the phone went to ask the Dr. and came back and said that the doctor had checked his ear and had seen nothing, so they weren't sure what I was seeing but it was not indicated earlier. This seems impossible from my medical knowledge, because puss usually indicates a rupture or serious infection. I begged to send photos and get some help for my cat, and the woman on the phone interrupted and YELLED at me "OLIVIA. The Dr. looked in his ear and saw nothing. If you don't like what you're hearing you can go to an ER or wait for your blood work tomorrow." I was shocked and crying and hung up. I couldn't go to an ER after being charged $330 that day! I woke up periodically through the night to check on my cat, panicked due to the lack of care and support, and woke up to call as the office opened at 8am. I called to ask again if I could send the pictures to anyone, and they told me my only option was to come back in for my cat to be seen and reassessed, and PAY MORE MONEY. I refused to pay more money for them to look at something they had missed on their exam the day before and that I had found and had been trying to show them. I couldn't afford it and simply didn't trust them at this point! The woman on the phone then told me she understood and that "emergency appointments are shorter than usual appointments and that the dr. did the best they could with the short time," which to me sounds like an excuse to do a short and not thorough exam! I decided to wait a few more hours for the Dr. to call me with my blood results and see if I could beg her for help again. After 4 more hours, I called back and asked if my blood results were in. They said yes and I was so frustrated and absolutely offended by their lack of respect for me and my pet, that I had them forward the blood work to me, and I went off to a MUCH better and MUCH cheaper ER. Within 2 minutes of being in the door, the Dr. found a large and now ruptured abscess right on the edge/outside of the ear. She gave him a thorough cleaning, a long lasting antibiotics shot, shaved off the fur on the side of his face because it was matted and crusted from the puss, gave him treats, and put a cone on him to protect the ear. All for less than $250. The next day, the Dr. had called to check on me and my pet and see how he was doing. Unfortunately, the following day, my cat was acting weird again and I called her back. She had concern that he was having an adverse reaction to the medication she gave or was constipated,

Dr Usiak is an amazingly caring, compassionate and concerned veterinarian. She was. born to take care of animals, that's for sure!! I feel that one of my dogs who has some health issues is being well looked after and a solid plan is in place. This is very comforting to our family who loves this dog to pieces!!
