I am a client with them. My cat Stella had a cyst and walked in asking if the they could take a look at it for her. It wasn't an emergency. The lady at the front desk said she would see Stella at 9 am, so we sat in the car. Never once did anyone ever mention that there would be a $105. 00 for an emergency visit. Even when she did an items overview of the bill. I found out when I looked at the bill at home. Very disappointed

Like some others who posted recently, I have been taking my cats here for a long time, but my experience at our annual visit today was shocking and terrible. The vet I saw refused to examine my cat in my presence and said it was because she "felt uncomfortable handling cats without assistance". So, she took the cat away for the exam and vaccinations. It made me very nervous, and she did not even come back to talk to me at the end of the appointment. The tech just brought the cat back and dropped him off with me. I'm honestly not even sure they really examined him. I am very disappointed, as this has been a great place in the past. I'm not sure what happened to them, but wanted to warn others about the recent issues and recommend looking for another practice.

I had an appointment for 1:30pm yesterday 11/4/23. I was running late so I called and notified the receptionist that I would be late and that the GPS said 1:44/1:45 arrival time. I was told that although generally they do not accept appointments after 15 mins that it was okay. I responded with "okay, I will try my best to hurry, maybe speed a little". The lady responded with "Dont worry about it, you will be fine, I will notify the vet". I got there after parking and paying for parking at 1:46. That is the time I saw on my phone when I was told I was "too late". I was in complete disbelief as I was led to believe over the phone that it would all be fine, and then told otherwise once I got there. If they had a hard 15 mins rule then they should have told me to reschedule and not try and make it in. It was a COMPLETE AND UTTER DISREGARD AND DISRESPECT FOR MY TIME. I understand I was running late, I called to notify them, I wished they would have let me know that I would be wasting my time by even trying. I would have turned around. I notified them of the GPS arrival time, maybe if I had run a red light or two, it would not have been a problem. Needless to say, my Samoyed and I will no longer be going there.

Like the others here who were customers for many years, I'm sad to say it's time to go to a new veterinary clinic. We always liked seeing Dr Parker and the cats only knew him since they were born (in my house) over 14 years ago until he stopped seeing patients here a few years ago, but since then it's a revolving door of new vets every time we come, which is every year on schedule. This year we found out my name wasn't listed as one of their parents because their system can't have 2 parents (who ever heard of that in a medical practice?) so tried to change it since I'm the one taking the cats to the vet but they absolutely refused!! Can you believe it? I just spent over $1,000 with my credit card with my name on it there for visits and labs but no, I can't be on the account. Unfortunately this has consequences for my aging cat -- the last vet we saw (a nice one, one I hope shows up at the next clinic I go to, since she's sure to dislike working here like the other vets seem to) told me she needs prescription cat food. Except I just placed a new order at Chewy and this time, they came back with a message that it was refused by Porter Sq Vet because I'm "not in their system." Did they even try reaching out by calling the phone number on the cat's record to confirm before doing this? (my cell btw) NO! They just refused her getting the right food, recommended by their own vet, just like that, so my aging cat has to suffer! It saddens me that she will have to wait for the right food now, because they can't be bothered to do the right thing. It matches others on Yelp who have also said that if you need prescriptions or response from staff here, it isn't gonna happen. So, fine - people with young animals who don't have health problems don't seem to care but if you need a staff to be responsive and professional as your pet ages, you won't find it here. And that will cost you more time and money (look, now I have to go pay again for visits and labs somewhere else) while your pet suffers. I wouldn't want anyone else to go through this. I mean, I was there at their first visits with Dr. Parker when they were new kitties, how could it be that I'm not in the record? They only listed my husband. That is just sad, and don't you think, a little sexist? ;)

I've been taking my cats here for years, and had great experiences, so I feel bad posting a bad review. And I've tried to be patient with COVID-related staffing issues, but I'm at a breaking point with yet another mis-scheduled appointment. It's not only inconvenient for me, it's stressful on my cat. And I feel like I have to be vigilant about what needs to be done, because I can't trust them to read their records (or for those to be accurate?). I had some hope that things would turn around when an office manager was hired, but I haven't seen an improvement yet.

I have used this vet for the last 20 years. We have had 2 dogs cared for by them over this time, and our experience was wonderful. Something has happened in the last year (maybe the pandemic or new management), where the quality dropped to a level that is really poor, and worrisome. Staff shortages and resulting chaos is common these days with covid, but recently we experienced numerous mix ups with medical care and procedures (one example is they gave my dog a vaccine, and then neglected to record the procedure, and it was not in his record - totally erased) which as you can imagine is dangerous. I was also told my dog needed a vaccine, and I was reminded of the appointment, and when I spoke up and said "I didn't make an appointment, and don't think my dog needs that vaccine" they said "oops sorry, we are training new staff". I trust my vet office to keep track of these things and keep my pet safe...the first time it happened I was understanding, but 5 times in the last months is not normal at all. The management was defensive instead of responsive, and chose to not take responsibly. I was willing to stay with them, had they put some effort into owning the problem. My concern is that they are disorganized and chaotic, and if this was a pizza order that may be ok, but it's medical care, and that is reckless and scary. I do not recommend this vet, until they get it together. If you love your pet, go elsewhere for your vet care.

They are great. Right from the front staff to the doctors, to the people working in the back. They are always extremely nice to me, and my 9mo pup who has been there since he was 10w old. The doctor called to follow up with us after pup's neuter, and was super professional. They are prompt and fast when reached out through app or when called. Would highly recommend.

Every review says it: the front office staff is RIDICULOUS. I have been on the phone in the "queue" for over an hour just to be hung up on- more than once! They do not apologize for long wait times and they do not call back promptly, even for my dog who had epilepsy and required frequent testing and medications ($). During annual visits, the last vet I had didn't even do a full physical exam! She claimed to have seen him in the back while taking blood. That is unacceptable and lazy, in my opinion. I want to feel like the vet seeing my dog cares about him, and I haven't found that here, despite seeing 3 different vets over the YEARS that I keep giving them chances.

Dr. Johnson is great but I had to call four times before someone addressed my question. That's really uncalled for and stressful.

I have used this vet for decades, but their front office has become increasingly chaotic (per their organization, not just covid). It took one doctor three days to get back to us re: a sick dog, records have been lost and broken communication is common. Frankly, auto garages have done much better.

Wehave had a great experience here. We have to leave because I now live in Quincy but my pet is not scared of the vet! He smiles for them! And they are very throrough and kind & accepted me during the pandemic when people were telling us to go elsewhere. Really have had a great 1.5 years here

(Was just talking with someone and it came up that we had mutually had a similar bad experience here with Dr. (Andrea) Moderi. For the safety of other potential animal patients, I think it's important to post.) I brought in a new foster dog in a few years back who had severe (bloody) enteritis, vomiting and upper respiratory infection. Dr. Moderi decided to treat him "conservatively" - a word she frequently uses apparently - and would not prescribe antibiotics (just probiotics). 24 hours later, my foster staggered into the bushes, vomited and laid down in it. I rushed him back in barely breathing, his gums and tongue cyanotic. They placed him in an oxygen chamber for several hours, and told me that they weren't sure if he was oxygen dependent, and I would need to bring him to an emergency (24 hour) facility like Angell after they closed. I took him home and vowed never to go there again. After a huge bill that the rescue couldn't cover, he ended up becoming our family dog... so I guess thats the only silver lining.

I've now been taking my dogs to Porter Square Vet for 12 years, and continue to be so thankful for the excellent care. Dr. Parker and the rest of the veterinary team are kind, attentive, and compassionate. They've remained open throughout the Covid-19 crisis, and have always found time for urgent issues. The staff handle the busy practice with patience and good cheer. Thank you, PSV.

We liked the vet, Dr. Moderi, but their front office is a hot mess. Something as simple as getting a prescription re-filled turns into a ping-pong game of phone calls, that's 45 minutes I'll never see again. Also their pharmacy prices are a racket! I found the same flea and tick medication online for 50% of the price, but it was like pulling teeth to try to get the prescription approved.

I've brought my animals to Porter Square Vet for 16 years. No more after today. I felt a growth on my bulldog's neck this weekend. I called this morning. They won't get me in until December. I work in medicine, and I know a little bit about tumors. I'm not a veterinarian, so obviously I need a professional's opinion. Maybe this growth is benign. But maybe it isn't. The solid base on this thing scares me a little. If it is malignant, time is of the essence for treatment. The receptionist asked me things like is the animal eating, lethargic, etc. No. But if you wait until an animal with a tumor has these symptoms, it might be too late. If they are basing their visits on this, and someone has to wait over a month with a pet that happens to have lymphoma, that pet may be dead. A layperson wouldn't know any better. This little dog is everything to me, and I won't gamble with her life. If they can't find 15 minutes in their schedule for her to examine her and do a needle aspirate, they don't value her life. I do, and now have an appointment with someone who was able to get me in within a week. I'll be calling to transfer the dog's records.
