I love to shop LYS while traveling. Black Purls was a lucky find! The owner couldn't have been nicer or more helpful! She even made a present of a fabulous book of toddler knitting patterns. I was flabbergasted! Don't miss this charming and well stocked store!

Black Purl Yarns has four rooms of yarn, with cozy seating inside and a zen pond with a bench outside. Kandi, the shop owner, and Jean the clerk who helped me find hand dyed sock yarn (dyed by the owner herself), were helpful and knowledgeable. According to the owner the barn, where the shop is located, was part of a property given to a family by the British in the 1800s and that same family owned it up until the 1990s! This location is not only pack with fabulous fiber but all the rustic charm you would expect from such a space. Ample private parking lot allowed us to park our truck camper with no problem. Worth a stop if you are in the area.

What a great yarn shop! Kandi was so helpful and even took the time to show me that cables are not to be feared. I will definitely return to Black Purls.

Visiting from out of state and wanted to get some yarn for my friend to crochet with. I told the owner I have no experience with yarn. They asked me if I had a price range, I stated $15 dollars max, and they went around the whole store pointing out everything that could be used with the pros and cons of each one. We later had a very friendly discussion about why we are visiting, and their experience with tourists like us. Overall a very wonderful experience with a huge variety of beautiful yarns. The negative reviews on this page are very outdated, and I believe that if you give this place a chance you won't regret it!

Stumbled on this yarn shop on a day trip to Sandwich. It’s in an old barn, which is very charming! The owner was very friendly, and she carries a lovely selection of yarns. She even dyes some herself. It was a wonderful stop!

Some sales people are too pushy. I go to yarn stores to browse and see new items. I was bombarded with questions and suggestions. I once had a sales woman who was elderly get down on the floor and start pulling out items left and right trying to change my mind about color choices. I’m surprised she didn’t follow me to my car. I’m making it sound like I’m ungrateful because I do appreciate their help, but this was over the top. I still go there because they have a great selection but I hold my breath just waiting for her to pop out of somewhere.

Great selection; could use more natural lighting so you can see the yarn better; also I don’t understand why their website hasn’t be updated to reflect their hours during the pandemic.
