“I always find great gifts for my dad and the owner even threw in an awesome cook book after I said he loves to fish, hunt and cook! We also found my 5-year-old daughter's now-favorite zip up sweater (shown in the photo). Great clothes for everyday and souveniers. The owner is always so friendly and gives us travel advice. This year, she gave us tips on Portland and we had a great time, stopping at Portsmouth New Hampshire as well which was awesome. She told us about Newburyport as well, which we hope to check out next year. Great products and even better service!”
“I picked wisteria from the parking lot and a sweet lady who worked there noticed they needed water. She asked if I wanted water, and brought a plastic cup full of water for flowers. The staff attached a seed packet to it they said they had laying around. It was absolutely adorable and things like this are the reason I will return and tell the world. “I didn’t plan on buying anything when I walked into Soft As A Grape in Mashpee… but about 3 minutes later, I was holding an armful of Cape Cod sweatshirts, tank tops, and one of the softest hoodies I’ve ever touched. Seriously, who’s making this fabric? Angels? Cotton candy? Because it lives up to the name. ?
The store is packed with comfy, casual pieces perfect for beach days, bonfires, or just flexing your Cape Cod pride back home. The designs are chill, the quality’s great, and the prices are better than I expected. They even had clearance racks calling my name (and yes, I answered loud and clear).
What really sealed the deal was the vibe super friendly staff, good music, and that cozy coastal feel that makes you want to hang out and try everything on. I left with more than I intended and zero regrets. Will definitely be back next summer for another haul!

“I was shopping for men's lounge pants for Christmas, and I was finding it hard to locate my husband's popular size. I went to another mega retailer moments before and had no luck, so I felt a bit defeated. The staff at the Black Dog General Store, and one young lady in particular, went out of her way to look in the back room and go through the showroom racks with me. We found them, and Christmas was saved!

“Beautifully eclectic and unique in its assortment. The staff clearly loves what they do; driven by the quality of the sale over the volume of sales. One of the more thoughtful group I’ve met in retail. Plus, they’re just super nice people. Cannot beat Rhonda for being the nicest, most attentive. Met co-owner Doug too, chiming in with an occasional well appointed suggestion was a treat too. The ethic of quality here runs strong.
To the people that think they are overpaying; there is a cost to everything. If you want to find a discount site, or a mass retailer for less, they exist for a reason - volume. If you want to skip buying the wrong size, or have your wife later tell you that color is terrible on you, then go to Maxwell & Co. Having a bespoke-like level of attentiveness must be worth something. Taking into consideration the individuals type, tastes, and personality and using that to help inform your choices is a service I would gladly pay for. Maxwell’s version is of the highest order in this service.”
“I have been a regular customer for years, but my recent paddle-board purchase has compelled me to write a review. I worked with Bret, no pushy sales, listened to my daughter and I, our goals and helped us into a board we absolutely love. I grabbed two new paddles as well since I was able to get a deal.
