My 87 year old mother was brought there by ambulance after throwing up black fluid at 4 pm. The staff didn't see her until 10:15 pm. Is that acceptable? This is an understaffed, poorly run, totally disfunctional medical center with the same reputation it always had, terrible.

My father died here in November 2023 after giving him a medication that gave him pneumonia. While he was dying, they tried to get his rehab to take him back so he didnt die in THEIR hospitalEvery time we left the room they went in and harassed my dad’s girlfriend. They also had a nurse who was trying to bully her into giving him heavy sedatives on top of pain meds so he wasnt conscious at all to say goodbyes. He cornered her and told her she was making him suffer by not giving him the sedatives. Shes a nurse in North dakota! She deals mainly with end of life care patients. Which she told him. Instructions where given to the hospital for my dads end of life wishes, number for the creamtory etc. They never called them. My dads body was there for a week with no contact to the funeral provider and both me and his gf played middleman. All in all dont go to this hospital if you have a choice.

If I could rate this place a 0 I would.
Where do I start...
Doctors are trash with no medical bedside mannerisms, disrespectful , when told something is going on it took 3 days for one particular doctor to come in (Dr chili) and when she did she didn't want to hear what I had to say but instead went on to say she had already read what was wrong in the notes, mind you comminication absoultly sucks so I wouldn't think a note would be correct seeings most nights I either got no sleep or was puking and would hear that it was reported I slept through the night no problems
Little backstory I'm 19 years wheelchair bound paralyzed with 7cm bone showing surgerical wounds and was hospitalized for sepsis , wound /blood infection and the horror show started from the beginning, I had been complaining that I wasn't sleeping itching , puking with hives all to be told that there was nothing

I mean if the 2.3 stars didn’t already throw you off and you want to attempt to go to BMC the care and staff will definitely throw you off. The staff is disgustingly judgmental and my boyfriend who’s had over 14 months clean from ALL substances was treated like a full blown addict FOR BLADDER pain ? but people have been wrongly diagnosed here, people are given such bad care and just…it’s bad. If you’re in the Berkshires and you find yourself in North County I would just take yourself right to Fairview Medical Center ?. BMC is a huge joke, it always has been but it’s getting worse and worse. Not all staff are bad, some people unfortunately it’s the only job they can get or they’re tied here with a commitment because of a tuition policy. My poor grandma would rather pay an extra $XXX ambulance fee to Fairview than go to BMC. I mean as I said…it has a 2.3 star rating FOR A HOSPITAL. Regardless, there’s so much more to say…but I would just tread cautiously and ALWAYS get a second opinion.

Horrible hospital. I've lived in many states and this is the worst hospital I've been to in this country. I have had nothing but bad experiences there. My latest one was today, I went in with severe abdominal pain and bleeding. I was a week post op. There was only one other person in the waiting room so I was relieved. Well it started filling up and I sat there while they called people who had just gotten there into rooms. I've worked in an ER so I understand it going by acuity levels but these people had complaints of a hurt foot, sore shoulder, etc. I went back to triage to tell them I was leaving and why and they convinced me to stay because of the severity of my issue. Well apparently it wasn't severe enough because I went back out to the waiting room and watched as they continued to call patients with minor issues back (I could hear their complaints because I was sitting near the check in window). Frustrated I returned to triage and had them remove my IV and left. My doctor had no available appointments for the day when I had called prior to going to the ER, but when I called back in tears after leaving the ER they felt so bad they made room for me to come in. So glad I have a great doctor. He urged me to never go to BMC and that it was worth the time and drive to go to another hospital/ER. That's why I didn't have my surgery at BMC, even my doctor knows they are a horrible hospital. Don't go there. I'd give it zero stars if I could!

This hospital really needs to be shut down. I'm shocked it's even still in business. I had the displeasure of waiting almost half a day in the ER (and it wasn't even busy!) and that was the best part of my experience.
I had 3 major issues with this hospital, things that they could easily get sued for or shut down over:
1. While checking into the ER, they made me sign a bunch of paperwork while I came in for extreme dizziness and disorientation, although my husband was thankfully at my side. THE SECRETARY DID NOT INFORM EITHER OF US THAT THERE WAS A LAPSE IN MY INSURANCE AND IT WAS NOT VALID. She took down my information, looked up my insurance, and did not inform me that it was expired, which is ILLEGAL. I did not find out until 5 days after my ER visit! I got slammed with a hefty ER and ENT bill thanks to this incompetent secretary who committed malpractice. (I worked as a medical secretary so I know how the process goes). When we tried to dispute the bills, the hospital ensured us they will get to the bottom of it and fix it, then we stopped being able to get in touch with them, and then we found out that they immediately sent the bill to collections. This hospital cares about ONE thing, quick, easy money.
2. When it was finally my time to be seen in the ER, I entered the room with THREE YOUNG FEMALE NURSES, and one nurse ran through the typical questions, and ASKED ME IF I AM SAFE AT HOME. WITH MY HUSBAND (they didn't know he was my husband, just assumed?) IN THE ROOM RIGHT NEXT TO ME. You are supposed to ask that question with the patient ALONE. NOT WITH A POTENTIAL ABUSER RIGHT NEXT TO THE PATIENT. Lucky for me my husband is an angel, but what about the women who come in with their abusive partners, or even a potential trafficker??? What if the woman spent months to convince her captor she needs medical attention, just to feel completely defeated that these 3 clueless and incompetent female nurses didn't care enough to help her? Absolutely insane. Why ask that question at all??? I hope those nurses are never in a position where they need to secretly ask for help and it doesn't come.
3. The ENT I was referred to, Dr. Stamm, had the filthiest patient room by far, that my husband and I have ever seen. So nasty that we took pictures. There was old blood on the floor, the room was filthy and was clearly not cleaned in quite some time. There were dead bugs inside of suction canisters and on procedure carts. The doctor diagnosed me with vestibular neuritis but did not prescribe me the steroids to treat it and just told me to 'wait it out and see if it goes away, and if not then it could be a brain tumor'. Thousands of dollars WASTED just to come to this useless conclusion. BMC is an absolutely useless healthcare system. Thankfully I got a second opinion elsewhere and was prescribed prednisone which promptly resolved my symptoms.
The endo unit is the only positive thing about BMC, otherwise I'd avoid this hospital and its affiliates at all costs. Make the drive out to another hospital, you'll probably still get seen quicker even if you drive like 6 hours.

I've had both experiences at this emergency room heaven and hell but most of the hell experiences that I went through I caused myself from the bad days I was having or the pain that I was in and all the good experience that I had it was because I was being more patient and just having a better day so I can't really blame the emergency room itself for anything other than them doing their jobs and working off their glutes like no other! I appreciate all the nurses and doctors that had helped me through my past visit to the ER and the fact that I could get some rest while being there and so much excruciating pain was playing amazing so thank you again I used to not want to go to the ER for anything at all because of all my past experiences but the new staff new doctors and they're not even that new it's just I haven't been there in a while are great they're friendly if you need them they're there don't just hear him talking about what kind of nails they have or where they're going on vacation anymore you actually have nurses that come in and talk to you about your problems and how to make you comfortable and if you yourself need anything which is exactly what it emergency room should be!!!

There's a reason locals call it Berkshire Meat Center. Special s/o to the worst emergency department ever. Very few people even seemed to give a F about their jobs and the doctor was a condescending C. Bonus points for bandaging up wounds with glass still in them

I have been hospitalized twice in the last couple of years, and both times were incredible experiences. Wonderful staff--amazing staff!!--great doctors. Considering I was in hospital, I give them an A+++++. Thank you!!!

If I could give negative stars I would. Numerology department is THE WORST. Does not return calls. Does not respond to messages through the portal in a timely fashion. Does not contact you with testing results and forget about veing able to speak with your doctor because that will absolutely NOT happen. Your health is not important to them and you will sit and suffer until it becomes a malpractice suit. Completely negligent and unprofessional.

Long wait (but just like any ER) but the kind and caring team treated me while waiting. When I got a room I was again greeted by kind and compassionate people who treated me. Very good hospital.

I would give this murder center negative stars if I could. Do not take your family here if you truly love them, hell I wouldn't even take my pet here. They will give them food that they are extremely allergic to, will give them test that they know will couse adverse effects with out takeing any proper procoshnary measures and they will also not communicate properly between your doctors, so hopefully they don't give you med that do not mix well together. In addition to their massive F-ups, their equipment either old or if it's new then it dose not work properly half of the time. At the end of the day if you wanted good or safe care do not go to this Murder Center.

This place is slow and disorganized, spending 4.5 hrs here just to be seen is ridiculous. Go to southern western Vermont medical in Bennington way faster and way more curtious.

From the care my husband received in the ER, the excellence and compassion from the surgical team, and the expertise of the physical therapists and occupational therapists in rehab, I give Berkshire Medical Center high marks. We are very grateful for the excellent care he received.

I had the most horrendous experience with Dr Jain of New England Pain Diagnosis Center.I have never in all my 63 years been yelled at by a Dr before. He did not let up either
Then when I did break down and cry he still kept yelling .I knew that anyone and everyone on the floor could hear him.He was the most disrespectful ,ignorant ,uncaring ,rude person I have ever met .He yelled at me for going to the ER to treat my pain. How dare I.let me tell you ,if it had been 10 years ago i would not be writing this as I would have left his office, gone home and commited suicide. We as patients put all our faith in the person wearing a stethoscope. We often go to an appointment after all else fails.Dr Jain actually told me that he does not need me as a patient as he "has 5000 other ones".After he had me totally broke down crying I begged him to let my daughter come in.He refused. He told me that "all of my doctors have washed their hands of me." Dr Jain, guess what ?.You did not break me.But please think twice before you make your next patient feel like a worthless piece of dirt.Your ignorance only exceeded the stupidity of you yelling at an elderly lady who had made the mistake of putting all of her faith and trust in you .
